Halcyon Brasserie Ratings and Reviews
We were there on a midweek evening and found a couple of seats at the bar and attentive , friendly bartenders to make us feel very comfortable. Had cocktails and an appetizer there before we were seated for dinner. Atmosphere was warm, attractive and inviting. Our meals were well prepared, attractively plated and delicious. We would definitely go back for dinner on a regular basis but because of the high price point it wouldn't be that often sad to say. For a special occasion it was worth it. We will go back for visits to the bar without dinner.
The meals were delicious, but the noise level was so incredibly loud that you needed to almost yell to be heard. The prices were OK, particularly if you don't order an entrée and order a couple of appetizers instead of one appetizer and one entrée. The fish tacos were an appetizer that I had for dinner. They were small, but tasty and enough for a meal.
Enjoyed a 3 hour dinner with friends. We were all there for the first time based on a friend's recommendation. Food was great; never felt rushed. Our waiter was Mario, and he was friendly, knowledgeable, and provided excellent service. Can't wait to go back!
We were really looking forward to dining here to celebrate multiple birthdays with friends.
Unfortunately the evening turned out to be a horrible one because of the EXTREMELY loud noise in the restaurant, coupled with 4 very drunk, loud and obnoxious people at the next table, to whom our server clearly catered. We waited over 1 hour to receive our appetizers. We had to ask multiple times for water, bread (which has to be requested) and when we might expect to receive our first course. All the while, the table next to us was being served multiple drinks and appetizers. Several times their dishes were delivered to our table in error, which only irked us even more as we had not been served any of our order up to that point.
It was rather unfortunate too because most of the food we finally got to eat was quite good--the chicken was prepared to perfection; the beet salad was outstanding, as were the large and fresh shrimp.
The paella fell short, as it contained mostly gloppy rice and little seafood. The tuna, ordered rare, was delivered well done. But to the server's credit, he did promptly deliver a new tuna as ordered.
If you want to dine at a restaurant where you can actually carry on a reasonable conversation, this is definitely NOT the place to go on a Saturday night.
Really an outstanding place. Always has been great but it seems that new manager Marshall has up its game! The quality is what you'd expect in a fine NYC restaurant, but without the NYC prices. We'll be back. They also did a great job for our holiday party upstairs. Great bartenders as well.
Such a treat that Halcyon was open on a Monday for our pre-Valentine's day dinner! I found out that they will be open Mondays from now on (yeah!). Dinner was wonderful as always and there was some nice live music. What is great about Halcyon is that it is a lively place, yet you can carry on a conversation while enjoying dinner.
Been wanting to try this place for awhile now. Finally got the chance and it was not at all what I expected. The appetizers were great but it went down hill from there. All the staff was OK at best. Could use a class on customer service or two!!! Passed on the dessert and went a few doors down to RED EYE and what a difference. Had a great dessert and were served by people that appreciated our business. The desserts were fantastic and help get the salty dinner taste out of my mouth!! Not rushing back to Halcyon anytime soon!
Our only complaint was that the service was not good. We sat for long periods of time without our waitress stopping by to check on us, re-pour our wine, ask if we need anything, etc. It was a busy Saturday night. Perhaps they were short wait staff. If that was the case, the waitress should have mentioned that at the start of our meal and asked for patience. But she did not. The food was good though and ambience nice although a bit loud as the evening passed.
The food at Halcyon is excellent! My husband and I enjoyed the Grilled Octopus appetizer (one of the best I've ever tasted!) and the Grilled Romaine Ceasar Salad, which was delicious. We ordered the Shrimp and Grits which was prepared in an Italian-inspired savory tomato broth, with Parmesan in the grits...scrumptious. We also ordered the fish special, which was mahi mahi served over a bed of spinach and truffled risotto. Absolutely delicious! A bit on the pricier side, but well worth it for the ambience and excellent food. One of the best meals I've had in a while.
We went for New Year's Eve, and were happy with the menu and the service. I would go back, but the hefty prices mean I'll save it for special occasions. It was beautifully decorated for the holidays, and all staff, starting with the hostess, and our lovely young waitress, were friendly and attentive. We very much enjoyed our first ever visit to this lovely restaurant.
