Halcyon Brasserie Ratings and Reviews
Monday night was not our first time at Halcyon, but it was memorable. When we walked in (meeting another couple) fire trucks and firemen were present and the alarm was going off. Other patrons waited outside, but we were meeting friends and it was freezing so we ventured to the bar. Our drinks were awesome (old fashions)and the bartender couldn't have been nicer although the entire staff had been subjected to this intermittent blasting for over an hour. When our friends arrived we could not find another place open on a Monday night locally and we decided to stick it out. Everyone got fish and salads, one was better than the other. The swordfish with the butter sauce and beat salad were both sublime. The staff apologized all evening. Finally the alarms were ceased. They gave us 15% off our bill and some cocktails on the house. We definitely will be back. They handled a very uncomfortable situation with grace.
We enjoyed our night out at Halcyon. Our server was busy but still as attentive as he could be. He was helpful with our questions and pointed us in the right direction for our choices. The oysters and cocktails were great as was the banana bread pudding! We will go again.
This is where you go when you want a consistent high end experience without pretentious wait staff or clientele. It's not cheap, but doesn't feel overpriced given the service and setting. We hit fit for special occasions like new jobs, anniversaries and Valentines.
Food was very good along with the service ambiance and drinks. The place was not noisy, although it was a Thurs nite and we sat down at 630. We sat on the bar side and ordered several appetizers and drinks. Everything was very good, the calamari was ok, I think I just expected it to come out different. Def a very good place for any occasion.
Very good, but very expensive ! Most expensive meal I think I have ever had in Montclair.
Don't order wines by the glass. We ordered 3 glasses and it came to $50. Good reason we prefer BYOB restaurants! Food was VERY good though, especially the Branzino. Server was excellent. Hostess however had the personality of a potted plant.
The service was incredibly slow - it took nearly 20 minutes for us to be served. We ordered apps, one of which was the fish tacos. They were in a hard taco shell covered by a soft one, both of which appeared to be store bought (El Paso -esque). The beat salad was very good. We left after eating our apps despite originally intending to stay for dinner. The slow service and poor food just didn't amount to sticking around to pay $30+ for entrees. Will not come back.
Overall the food was delicious. They ran out o f the rosé I ordered and they did not bring bread to the table. We ordered 2 appetizers but only one came to the table. The server came to the table plenty of times towards the beginning but we had to flag him down for drinks later on during the meal. We are going back and giving them a second try but it was a bit disappointing since I was so excited to go there.
Was pleasantly surprised at how superb and genuine the staff was from the recommendations to the service. The food was outstanding. Had the snapper special, swordfish, creme brulee, tuna poke and cocktails. EXCELLENT! I cannot wait to go back just for the taco app. It is three huge tacos and everyone in the place were ordering them!
Fantastic food and very good service. Bread was offered quite some time after we had been there and already ordered our food. We were starving and bothered by the delay for bread. It's kind of odd to ask if a table wants bread. Wine list could be better. Food was great and other than the bread so was the service. Also just served tap water without asking if we would like sparkling water. Noisy place but that didn't bother us.
