Hakkasan - San Francisco Ratings and Reviews
Standard Hakkassan menu but lacking a bit of the quality that goes with the dishes served at the London venues. Great bar, good service, easy to get a booking (same night reservation on a Thursday) and reasonable value particularly given the cost of high end dinning in San Francisco. Well worth the walk from the Top of the Mark post cocktails.
I brought my wife to Hakkasan to celebrate a wonderful promotion at her job that day The only seating available for us where the noise was less severe was on a leather -type banquet in a room to the right of the bar as you enter. The cushioning was horribly uncomfortable and is badly in need of reupholstering. We felt a constant stream of cold air from the ceiling but there was no seating elsewhere other than in the midst of loud noise. We were given each a warm plate on which to transfer our food from the serving platters. But by the time the food arrived, the plates were ice cold. I asked for warm plates and was told "we do not have warm plates." The hot food turned cold very quickly. Toward the end of our meal, the air-conditioning was turned down but by that time we were almost done . The experience was a huge disappointment. I have hosted people at Hakusan 1/2 a dozen times but will not return unless I am assured the poor experience will not be repeated.
As usual, the food and drinks were great. We had an exceptionally great server. He was so accommodating, friendly yet professional. I had the pan fried veg dumplings and the vegetarian chicken. These two are some of my favorite dishes there - always wonderful.
Extremely bad experience.
1. I did mentioned to both host (downstair and upstair) that I made a reservation at 1pm but I was late. Later that day, I've received Open Table that I didn't show up to my reservation which required back and forth email with OpenTable to make sure there was no bad mark with them given I was with OpenTable since 200x.
2. Upstairs lady host wasn't friendly at all and She didn't tell us to be seated. So I was waiting until my friend walked for seating. She walked behind her because she came out from her booth and my friend assume she is seating us so she went with her.
3. Host wasn't tentative when seated. Nobody come after 5 mins or so when we sat down. He was polite to notified to us that he was busy. He was nice. There was not enough waiters/waitress so the wait was longer, which is understandable.
I cannot believe this is a Michelin Stars restaurant as the food and services doesn't live up with the standard. Even though I did give a recent tips as the waiter was nice even slow, it will be my first time that I will not recommend anyone or my friends or me going back there ever again.
Service is really bed. The hosts were talking to each other and just ignored us for 2 minutes. Then they made us wait (even though we had a reservation) and told us she'd call us when the table was ready. After 15 minutes I went to check what's going on, and the table was ready but they forgot to call our name. That already made us uncomfortable even before we started dinner.
The server was rude and had all sorts of weird rules, like having to take all of the order at once and not letting us order an additional dish after starters. And at some point they just brought us the check - guess they decided it was time for us to go (after less than 1h30).
The restaurant was not full at all (9pm on a Wednesday), so not sure why the attitude. When I went there last year they were super nice, wonder what's changed.
Great meal. We arranged for a private room, with a fixed menu. The menus were printed and personalized for our group, and the service was outstanding. Definitely a great choice for a big birthday or an important business meeting. They also took into account the dietary needs of our vegetarian guests.
I made my reservation at 10pm. When I arrived in the restaurant (on time) and ordered a bottle of wine, the waitress said to my wife and I that the kitchen wil be finishing in 30 minutes. After this time I was angry. For me the restaurant couldn't accept reservations until 10pm, and finishi the kitchen after 30minutes. I drunk a bottle of wine and had my meal in 45 minutes in a special day for me and my wife, because we were celebrating our wedding aniversary. I don't believe about this situation. We have been in 5 or 6 restaurants in one week in USA and this one was the worst, because of this reason. Eduardo Correa
I have to compare Hakkasan SF to other Hakkasan (New York, London etc). The atmosphere and surroundings in the restaurant is not at all in the same level . Service is not good enough - it's in the low level on the Hakkasan scale. Music is to high and to noisy. Food is good. They allow people in shorts and t-shirt (backpackers style) to enter the restaurant.
Have been to Hakkasan in London, Miami & Vegas and loved them all. Was looking forward to eating at the one on San Fran, but unfortunately it did not meet my expectations.
We ordered a bottle of prosecco. They keep the bottle on ice (I assume) in a separate area so that they can top you up when you are empty. Too many times our glassed were in fact empty. Why bother keeping it separate to the table if the service is not attentive? I'm quite happy to pour it myself!
We ordered the ribs to start, which were great if not a little fatty. I got the duck salad, which was very bland compared to the one I ordered in NYC. My wife got the spicy fried chicken, which was terrible and full of fat.
At around 9.45pm there were 2 other parties in our vicinity, when I overheard the waiter telling another waiter 'right, now let's get rid of the rest of these last tables'.
Maybe I caught them on an off day, but this is not what I would expect of a restaurant of this caliber and most importantly of these prices.
Great food perfect for a business lunch . We were welcomed back as we missed out during the SF power outage . This is a jewel for diem sum . Each piece is a delicious work
Of art .
San Francisco has a Treasure in it's midst as this is upscale ;good ambience : authentic and fun . Excellent welcoming service
My wife and I found this restaurant to be pretentious, and over-priced. The starters were rather greasy. The 3 main dishes were brought out together, so that at least one of them -- the beef -- was too cold to eat. The staff was unable to cope with or to respond to our request that the dishes be brought out sequentially. As for the wine list, it reflected the tastes of the SF nouveaux-riches clientele to perfection. Over $ 70 for a rather ordinary bottle of Sancerre. The next time, we go to Chinatown for the real thing, rather than to be with the so-called 'hip' crowd.
Second time visiting and the experience was just as satisfying. Had an impromptu date with my boyfriend and I was just craving good dim sum. Definitely satiated by the vegetarian platter and the black sesame chocolate dumplings were insane in the best way possible.
We had a nice evening and really enjoyed the food. Our server, Elliott was amiable and courteous.
Will always go back.
