Hakkasan - San Francisco Ratings and Reviews
A great dining venue for Chinese cuisine with a lively ambience, good vibes, tasty and well presented cuisine - favourites are the dim sums, Peking duck and noodles with clams ! Also well located on Market, definitely convenient walk for all staying in hotels around Union Square and Four Seasons which is just across the road !
Food was excellent. The salt and pepper squid was delicious as was the Sanpei chicken in Thai sweet basil sauce and the crabmeat and corn soup. The crispy pumpkin puffs were very tasty and the presentation was so creative.
Service was very friendly and excellent. Loved the ambiance.
Would recommend highly and is our new favorite Chinese restaurant in SF!
I regularly go to Hakkasan in London and was my second time at the SF location. The food is always amazing and worth every penny. The drinks are creative and full of flavour. However this time the service was absolutely horrendous. The waiter was pushy and did not let us take our time to order. We got angry and confused until he came and said: " I was told to stand here and wait for you to order, as we have last calls". Had he told us beforehand the kitchen was closing at X pm, we would have ordered and understood his aggressive behaviour. We spilled a drink and the waiter watched us clean it up ourselves, I had to ask for the table to be cleaned... the list goes on... Overall not happy with the serivce but hats off for the chef!
I was visiting SF for business and decided to host a dinner at this restaurant. Excellent service and the waiter's recommendations proved to be fantastic. I think the highlights were the creative cocktails (I tried the Hong Kong Dusk and loved it), the truffle roasted duck, the vegetarian chicken and the green tea matcha mousse for dessert. I liked the fact that you could order plates to share instead of single entrees per person. I would visit again.
We have been taking our important guests from overseas here many times before. Food was good. However, this time, the New Year Eve Dinner with a course-by-course set-menu, was exceptionally good. We were very pleased with the food and the great service. Worth the expensive fares spent.
Outstanding food and service. Victor was our waiter and was exceptionally knowledgeable and attentive. His professionalism and courtesy really stands out and made for a memorable dinner. The food was also outstanding, the Peking duck in particular was outstanding. Our group shared several dishes and all were very good, but missing out on the Peking duck would be missing out on a one-of-a-kind meal.
Surpassed all expectations. We have been to Hakkasan in London and were wondering whether the San Francisco one would be as good. It was! Every dish had its own distinct incredibly wonderful flavour - crispy prawns with wasabi sauce; fried lobster; noodles.... everything tasted superb - no heavy thick sauces - just abundance of flavours. The sommelier was great - very helpful in selecting sake and then wines from the region. We loved it! Thank you!
We had a spectacular meal here last week. We arrived late due to traffic, but the hostess was able to still seat even though it was after 2pm and lunch ends at 2:30. Her name was Carly I think and she was very nice. We got 2 seats at the bar and were served by Jose, who was also friendly, helpful and very professional. We tried 2 of the set menus, which were both excellent and supplemented it with the shanghai soup dumplings and a special dessert. We preferred the steamed appetizers a hair over the fried, but both were full of flavor, light, but perfectly cooked and balanced. Our drinks were also excellent. I forgot the name of one, but it was i a martini glass with a flower floating on top. Really excellent. The mains were the shrimp, which came with a fairly strong curry flavored sauce (which we loved). The 2nd dish we got was the cod, which was perfectly cooked and nearly melted in our mouths. For dessert we tried the macaroons which came with the set menu (excellent, especially the pistachio and the lemon poppy), and we also tried this wonderful desert that was like liquid chocolate inside a mochi-type rice ball floating in a warm aromatic tea. Very unique and very delicious. It was a bit of a splurge for lunch, but the food, the staff and the setting were all very special.
This restaurant is lovely. Everyone aspect of our meal was impeccable: food and service. We had a lunch reservation and opted for the Hakasan tasting which was perfect as it provided a sampling of several dim sum selections and offered four choices for main entrees. I selected the steamed dumplings, all perfect and delicious! And for my main entree ordered the sea bass clay pot which was amazing! Our service was timely and attentive. Can't wait to come back.
My friends and I were celebrating the Christmas Eve at Hakkasan. I had already been there several times. However, this time was the most disappointed one. The waitress poured out our wine without giving any feedback when she served the pumpkin appetizer. After she said "Let me see what I can do", she disappeared and never came back. Sad :(
The food was fine but nothing very impressive. I can totally find tons of better Chinese food from a bunch of inexpensive places. I skipped dim sum, because I am pretty sure I will not be impressed by that even it is truly the best dim sum in SF. I can get much better dim sum at almost no cost when I fly back to China. :)
It might be a good place for people from Guangdong, or anyone that particularly loves Cantonese food, but I'd not recommend it to people from other parts of China. Also the restaurant is quite noisy. Not sure if it's always like this but it sounded like there is a disco club nearby.
Excellent place for a (not quite) Chinese meal. Not cheap, but the staff gives proper attention to detail on both the food quality and service. Our entrees were delayed due to a kitchen error, but we were enjoying the experience so much, we did not even notice until the waiter apologized to us for the delay.
The service was fantastic, the cocktails were delicious and varied, and the food was incredible. Everyone at the table was very impressed with everything that we had - we did the $120/person tasting menu and were not disappointed. There are less pricey options as well, but highly recommend one of the pre-organized menus - no body in the group left hungry and we still had food leftover. I will definitely recommend to everyone - delicious.
This place is overrated and overly priced. I'm not sure why it became a michelin starred restaurant.
The food is so salty, lost the original taste of the food, especially when you say you are a Chinese restaurant. If you claim that you are a typical American Chinese restaurant, that might be acceptable.
Then in their wine selection, they did not include any Chinese wines. Not a choice at all. BUT they have Japanese wines? What are you a Chinese or a Japanese restaurant excuse me?
Oh then it comes to the service. I'm not sure about the server's condition that day, maybe she just broke up with her boyfriend. The attitude was so bad that she almost hit the table with the water bottle.
And if you would like explain to me that the display of the food is great, I would totally disagree with you. The food display is as standard as the fine dining in any western styled restaurant at the most, and not even close to any fine dining Chinese restaurant.
I highly recommend the critics of Michelin to revisit their SF location and reconsider their ratings.
What a disappointment.
If I could, I would like to seek for a refund from their restaurant.
