Haiku Sushi Steakhouse - Permanently Closed Ratings and Reviews
Was not nearly as good as last time we were there. Shrimp, lobster was over cooked. Chef had no personality. Table was sticky and we had to ask for it to be wiped off. Waiter was good but had to many customers. The first time we went was very good but disappointing this time.
We came here for the hibachi show which was excellent. Our salads were all soggy and because of that inedible. The soup was average but our sushi starter was very good. The actual hibachi food was good but didn't seem as fresh as I a accustomed to at other hibachi restaurants. I'd recommend to someone wanting more quiet hibachi experience with a great show but warn them not to expect an overly amazing meal.
We had a 10pm reservation. We arrived 10 mins early and was seated at 10:10pm. The waitress provided menus and took our drink order. After 10 minutes, she returned with drinks and took our food orders. She came back with salads and soups for everyone. Then we realized she never asked anyine their preference in dressing. Roughly 30 minutes passed and no sign of our chef. Our waitress could be visibly viewed sweeping floors and cleaning other tables. We got her attention and inquired about the chef. She said he was preparing. She didn't bother to inform us of the looming wait nor offer refills on beverages. She continued to sweep the floor. Finally the chef came. Nice guy but no excitement. It was my son's 9th birthday. The food was subpar. Not to mention a person in my party had to wait for their food because the chef did not have enough shrimp. This added insult to injury due to the over 45 minute wait we had experienced with no refills. The chef concluded. The waitress finally returned. She was very short and visibly irritated. She provided me with a water to go as requested. She distributed checks. She then collected and reviewed each receipt. Due to the poor service, one person in our party gave her a $1 tip. The waitress then demanded that the person give her at least 10%. She said that she needed the 10% to pay her company regardless if we wanted to tip her or not. The person in our party explained to her that she received a $1 due to poor service. The waitress replied she still need 10% from each check to pay her company. She said the 10% goes to the company and not her....very odd. After asking to speak with management, the waitress backed down and stormed off stating she would pay the 10% out of her own pocket. I would caution anyone regarding dining here. If waitresses can confront patrons regarding their service and demand tips that are not deserved this is not a place you want to eat.
We had reservations. When we got there we were rudely and abruptly told that the wait would be "at least 15 minutes". I understand them running behind, but the woman was rude and when I asked if it might be much more than 15 minutes, she angrily replied that she didn't know. Once we were finally seated, it took a very long time anyone to come get our drink order. Then we waited 20 minutes for drinks to come. By the time the Chef actually got to us, it was nearly an hour after our reservation time. Chef just went through the motions; he didn't engage nor entertain. We had scallops which were of poor quality.
The food portion was so small that I was not sure what I was paying for, the hostess (wears glasses) was rude and didn't even care when I told her about the portions. 3 people in my group of 5 got meat portions not enough to even fill a tiny bowl, the quality of rice was also barely a layer of grains!! Your chef needs to be trained better to portion food.
Place was nearly empty-- and yet still waited 10 minutes to be seated. Then waited another 10 minutes for someone to take our drink order. When we finally had a full table our chef was quick to come cook.
The chef was funny and my son was entertained. Once again the waitress was elusive and all of our drinks were empty. The hostess and several other workers were sitting at a table nearby and no one seemed interested in working. Was very disappointed, especially after reading such rave reviews.
This was my first visit to Haiku and it was a pleasant one.
My partner had the miso Salmon and I had a Hibachi grill NY strip. Both dishes were very well done.
For an appetizer we had the hot and sour soup - Thai style with shrimp - let me tell you there was no sour - only hot! Loved it!
80% of the diners were at the Hibachi grill - very small crowd at tables. Reasonably priced at a good location.
Went on a Thursday night around 6:30 and only about 3 tables were there. We ordered a Tsunami roll since it was recommended and an Angel roll. The Tsunami roll was ok the tuna was dark looked awful and my daughter's Angel roll she tasted and sent back for something else like Shrimp Tempura and Vegetables. It was ok but she preferred not to get something fried. As we left saw someone with regular tuna roll and it looked better. i would not go back. It is a little too dark inside and not much ambiance.
My other 4 experiences have been great as to why I would keep coming back and bring different people with me each time. The previous times, our wait staff was on point always keep out drinks refilled and checking on us just enough, but not being overly pisky. This experience, we had to beg to get a refill.
The food is good and would recommend this place for special occasions such as birthdays and family get togethers. The chefs at the hibachi keep you entertained by interacting with everyone and performing tricks while they prepare your meal in front of you. The food is fresh, cooked on sight and served hot literally from the stove to your plate, so cant get more fresh!
