Gyu-Kaku - White Plains Ratings and Reviews
I love Gyu Kaku and for years went to the Astor Place location. At first, they had amazing servers like Caroline but they all left and the new servers were not as friendly or attentive. I recently discovered the White Plains location and it quickly became my favorite location all because of Jean. Jean was my very first server there and I return to this Location instead of Astor because of her. She is kind, efficient, intelligent, attentive and they are lucky to have her. She found my missing scarf and remembers my orders. Lol! I also love the music there. The place has a great energy. I have had other servers and have nothing to complain about but Jean is the best!
Okay the food is good but the first thing to note is it was LOUD. Usually we're seated in the booth areas which have a bit of a buffer. We were in the back and there were two other parties that were literally parties (and loud.) My suggestion is to not go with a group over four and request a booth. The back tables also have one grill in the middle which is unreachable by people at the ends: people in the middle have to do all the cooking. One last caution, there's this huge box (presumably covering the gas line) in these back tables. They really shouldn't expect anyone to sit over it; you're forced to put your feet on either side of a massive wooden box now between your legs. Not acceptable seating. Disappointing this round.
Everyones food came at different times(their suppose to come out all around the same time). So we all couldnt really eat together. The waiter in the begining asked if we were doing "separate items", we said "yes its seperate", so we were under the inpression that she knew to give us seperate checks. The waiter ended up combining all of the checks and told us we should have told her in the beginning. My group had to take time out of our night figuring out which amount belongs to who. It was extremely frustrating. My group loves gyu kaku but over time we all notice a drastic change at the white plains location and i think will go to a different location instead.
Thank you for your time.
60% of the menu were out when we last visited. Staff was demoralized as they got yelled at all day for not having food. One staff told us the corporate office mismanages food supply often and put them in a bad spot. Staff turnover is high and I will likely visit other restaurants in the meantime.
Gyu-Kaku is a wonderful place to experience something new! The food is amazing and tastes even better knowing that you cooked it yourself! Our Waiter Tony was very helpful with cook time recommendations plus helping us cook and cut certain meats! Please make sure to try this place! I highly recommend it!
I have been to Gyu-Kaku a few times but my most recent experience was by far the best, the energy and atmosphere was fun and inviting. The food and drinks are very afforadable so if you want to enjoy great food and drinks on a budget this place is a go-to, happy hour is all day! So for the most part you will not spend more than $5 on your drink! Great place to truly enjoy your meal and try many new things on the menu without breaking the bank also it is simply a fun experience, it allows you to take your time and enjoy your food since you have to cook it yourself which is very different from most restaurants so basically there is no sending your meat back to the kitchen to be cooked some more since you’re in control. The waiters were very friendly and attentive. Daniel, the manager was very accommodating and easy to talk to, he did every thing he could offer to either correct a mistake or to make your experience at Gyu-Kaku one that you will not forget and one that will make you want to come back, it is clear that it is very important to him that you enjoy your experience. I absolutely recommend this restaurant. As for food and drink recommendations, if you like margaritas, the cherry blossom margarita is by far the best I have ever had and the rainforest is very refreshing. As for food, the garlic rice and noodles are amazing, the avocado salad is light and delicious, the spicy addicting cucumber and is truly addicting and I never thought I would enjoy eating cucumber that much and finally for the meats all are perfectly seasoned and there is no need to add salt or pepper. 10 out of 10 for my experience.
The other time I had an awesome waiter and the food is awesome at a great value so I came back with friends. Unfortunately the waiter servicg us this time was not having his greatest day... slow, not very friendly so that took quite a toll on the overall experience.
The food was very good though and still a great value.
Will go there again but will refuse to be served by this guy again.
The food was excellent. The server could've been more attentive to beverage details since the appetizers came out before the drinks. Refills weren't attended to with satisfactory service, and my specifications for a birthday dessert which I asked in my instructions to Open Table weren't addressed. I even pointed behind my friend to let the waiter know to bring him birthday dessert, and that was not paid attention to. I was not in the position from where I was sitting to notify without being obvious. Overall, the food outweighed all the shortfalls.
