Gyu-Kaku - Vancouver Ratings and Reviews
Our dining experience this time was much better than the last time. We made a reservation for 7:45 and we didn't have to wait long before getting our table. Our server was very nice and attentive, always making sure we were doing ok. Food was great as usual.
This was our first time at Gyu-Kaku and was a family birthday celebration. We were seated fairly quickly but did have a reservation and there was 2 other groups waiting. So I would recommend a reservation even quite early on a Sunday for dinner. It was quite loud with music and chatter from other tables, so really hard to hear our waitress explaining the menu and routine. We had the seasonal complete multi course deal for 6. It was tons of food. All Very Good. Would definitely go again and recommend to friends.
The food is tasty the only problem is the over attending of your servers. I lived in Japan and Korea so I understand the pressure to provide top notch service, but I feel that here in Canada it is not necessary to be helicoptering constantly around the table checking in on service, explaining redumentry things etc. Especially after I clearly tell the servers that I have been here many times before
Great as always! I came with a group of friends and though there were 5 of us we comfortably ate a 4-person meal set. The overall cost was roughly 35$/p (including alcohol), which was reasonable for what we got but not something I would do every week. The quality of the meat was excellent and I had the house sake which was smooth and tasty.
Made reservation for 3 people at 7:45 PM for Happy hour. We had to wait about 10 minutes before getting our table. Our server was nowhere to be found so we had to catch the hostess on her way to grab the server for us. I had to get cash from RBC (which was nearby) and the server still hadn't gotten our order yet by the time I got back to the table. She came about 5 minutes later. Food came relatively fast, and they were good. Server did not come by to ask if we needed anything until we were nearly finished, in which case we just wanted our bill. If you don't care about the service, this place is good, if you do, go to the broadway location.
Amazing experience! Super fun environment and great food. We got the geisha preset course for two people and at the end we were stuffed. With 3 drinks each our bill total was $150 (including tip) so it wasn’t super overpriced. You can eat cheaper if you want as well by choosing individual plates instead of a preset meal.
Flavours were delicious, meat was tender, drinks were awesome. I would recommend a reservation though! We had a reservation at 6:15 and while we waited for our table we heard that the wait time was 1 hour.
Try this place for a fun dining experience!
My boyfriend treated me out for my birthday and it was a lovely lunch. The front of house staff were super friendly and attentive and everything came in a timely fashion and perfectly done.
I got a free dessert which was awesome and the food over all is yummy and totally worth the travel and the food being decently priced was a bonus.
Gyu-Kaku here is nothing like the ones in Tokyo. Way too pricey. Kimchi was bad mainly sour cabbage rather than spicy hakusai. Signature Gyu-Kaku salad has gone downhill. Thought the kalbi (and we went for the pricey cut) was average at best.
The tongue was fine, but overall they've not improved at all.
Overall a good experience, our table was near the door so a little drafty, I was cold enough to keep my coat on the entire meal (even with the grill in the table lit). The servers are friendly and work efficiently, though the restaurant is high volume and you can tell they're trying to get you in/out as fast as possible. Food was great, hope to take my parents next time they're in town! RESERVATIONS ARE A MUST.
Great place! Second time coming here, first was with a group of seven late night and this time was lunch for two. Both times, the food was amazing! Good cuts of meat. The chicken Karage, the spicy pork, and the beef dishes are all delicious. Lots of fun sitting around the table with the little grill cooking the meal and chatting with friends. It's a great place for a date or to hangout with friends.
