GW Fins Ratings and Reviews
This was our 2nd dinner here during our 4 day trip, it was as wonderful as 1st dinner. Can't gush enough over the great service (thanks Fallon & Omar) and outstanding food. Looking at planning another trip to New Orleans just so we can indulge in this restaurant's wonderful environment and food.
New Orleans had incredible food... However, this was our greatest meal. It's expensive, but for romantic date night or a special occasion, it's perfect. Servers are amazing (I think we had Kenny and he was great!) Try those Fin Wings!!! We ordered them twice!
Have been in New Orleans for a week now, this was the best meal on the trip, the lobsters dumplings, could have made a meal out of them they were so good. This restaurant was the best one here for diner, service was very good. No trip is complete without diner here.
This restaurant far exceeded our expectations in food quality and service. We celebrated my birthday on valentines evening and were so pleased we came back for our last evening of our 3 day trip. Fallon and Omar made us feel comfortable and special throughout both dinners. The food was was fresh and delicious.
Ambience and service was wonderful very formal within the quarter. Started off with some very good cocktails and ordered a moderately overpriced wine. The wine selection was good and the Malbec we had was perfect.
We ordered the lobster dumpling which were very tasty with a buttery cream sauce. I had then scalibut and my husband had the snapper. Both cooked to perfection, flaky and fluffy. The scallops seared into the halibut were nice and firm.
Dessert was the bread pudding and crewmen brûlée. Bread pudding had no raisins so it was perfect for me to try. Both weee very good.
Truly one of the best seafood restaurants in New Orleans. We've eaten here before, but have never been disappointed. We arrived a couple of minutes early, so we went to the bar to order a glass of wine for each of us. The wine was no sooner poured, than our table was ready. We didn't get a chance to taste the wine until we sat down, unfortunately it was corky. Our waitress immediately summoned a manager who went and got a different bottle and poured two new glasses which were fine. My wife had the pear salad and I had the shrimp remoulade, both were excellent. My wife then had the grouper and I had the scalibut. If you've never had had scalibut, it is thinly sliced scallops somehow fused to the top of the halibut and served over lobster risotto, simply the best. We split a crème brulee and it was also excellent.
Good experience, good meal. Only food negative was: the sword fish was a bit over cooked.
I think our perception of GW Fins as being less than spectacular lies a bit with our personal preferences. GW Fins is a warehouse style seating, all in one very large room. They do a nice job with this set up. But, we went to Brighten’s the night before and we all really liked the more intimate experience. Additionally, we are all foodies and two of us are very good cooks and the food was so spectacular at Brighten’s that it was a tough act to follow. Brighten’s is off the beaten path, but totally worth the Uber ride. GW Fin’s convenient if you want to visit bourbon street and stay in the French quarter.
We would definitely go back to GW Fins, but our expectations would be different going into the evening.
GW Fins was exactly what my wife and I were looking for when we set out to find a special, treat ourselves, first time in a long time without kids restaurant. Above all I will say the staff is what really made the evening. Our server Jason had exceptional knowledge of the food and specifically what the chef was out to accomplish with each meal. With that, the food did not disappoint. We chose a local tuna entrée and a more creative Scalibut dish with a lobster risotto. As requested by Jason, we also opted for the sizzling oysters as an appetizer. Every aspect of our night was spot on and I look forward to our next visit.
