GW Fins Ratings and Reviews
Great place to eat! My husband & I have visited New Orleans many times & decided to give this place a try. The reviews were spot on. The lobster dumplings were a great appetizer. We had the beet salad, the John Dory Fish & the dirty rice. All were excellent. The servers went out of their way to explain the menu & to make recommendations. We will definitely go back!
GW Fins is the best, most well rounded dining experience I have ever had. We went with most of our waiters recommendations because we had never had many of the items on the menu. The fried pork belly appetizer is in the top 5 best things I have ever eaten, and the swordfish was blackened to perfection. They also bring fresh pan biscuits over the course of the meal that are great. The only thing that was slightly underwhelming in taste was the Coconut Sorbet Samoa we split for dessert. This was where we strayed from our waiters suggestion, and it wasn’t bad at all, just extremely rich and we were too full to finish it. Overall I would absolutely recommend this restaurant for any date or special occasion, and for the price (under $50 a person sans wine), I will have a reservation any time I go to NOLA.
This was our second time to GW Fins and it didn’t disappoint us. Their seafood is the best. Tonight we tried their scallabot which it a nice piece of very fresh halibut encrusted with slivers of scallops and served over a deli PIs lobster risotto. Wonderful. And they train their wait staff very well. Every request at our beck and call. We’ll be back.
Amazing in every way! My husband and I had dinner this evening and it may have been one of the top five meals we’ve ever had. The service was impeccable. This is what a dinner out should be and so seldom is. When the bill came I was surprised at the total cost—we’ve paid far more for far less in taste and experience. Incredible. This would be our #1 restaurant if we lived in New Orleans. Don’t miss this restaurant!
This was our second time dining at GWFins, and it's still my favorite restaurant thus far in any city I've been. It's also a special treat if you get Fallon as your server, as she describes each meal to a "T". I will continue to come to GW Fins when I visit New Orleans.
Unfortunately, we had a very drunk and obnoxious table next to ours and our entire dinner was shadowed by this unfortunate circumstance. The food was good, but did not meet my expectation. I had sea scallops and mushroom risotto, and the scallops should have been seared and on outside of the risotto, but were part of the risotto and soft. The appetizers of lobster ravioli and shrimp tempura were good. I guess I was looking for a combination of the Cajun/creole flavors and fresh seafood, but did not experience this.
Beginning with our greeting from our waiter (Jerry) up until we finished our dinner with a chocolate bomb, our experience was more than excellent. Jerry was extremely knowledgeable regarding food ingredients (due to gluten concerns) and freely discussed menu items and wine pairings. We ordered the Scalibut and the John Dory and shared both....and both were excellent. We will certainly visit again the next time we are in New Orleans.
We thoroughly enjoyed our experience there! The food was excellently prepared and the service was great. Throughout the years, we have frequented many restaurants in New Orleans and this has become one of our favorites. We would highly recommend this venue.
The hostesses were rude. They seemed to have a strangely defensive stance against the customers even when the person was not complaining. I definitely got the impression that the customers having a pleasant evening was not high on their priority list. I’m not sure who they were trying to keep happy.
Booked dinner here as our special dinner out for our trip to New Orleans without kids. Chose it over Commanders Palace and others based on reviews. The space is beautiful, large and well designed, elegant and round so you can see practically the whole dining room. We were seated in a rear booth, elevated a couple steps and made for a great view of the restaurant. The service was good and food tasty, although neither were as good as the setting itself. I ordered my favorite, scallops. They were delicious but portion was quite small, even the accompany portion of mushroom risotto was tiny. I could have eaten double the amount. My husbands swordfish was a normal portion and quite tasty. Overall, a good experience but I tend to order scallops wherever I go and they were disappointing in size.
Got there early and the restaurant was empty. By the time we departed they were very full. Great service, Great selection of food. You really need to like seafood to go to G W Finns. We have eaten here many times before but this time everything just clicked very well. It was a very enjoyable meal for us.
Service needs serious improvement, both upon arrival at the restaurant and the main wait staff. Ours poured our wine be ONCE all night. Two bottles.
The food was very good - lobster dumplings, the red snapper with crab meat and their own creation, scalibut, were top notch
GW Fins does not disappoint!! I have eaten here twice now and every time it is amazing. The service was very friendly, though I would have enjoyed more explanation on the menu then what we received. We started with the Pork Belly and Barbecue Shrimp appetizers. The Pork Belly won that round, very tender and SUPER flavorful, Barbecue Shrimp and Grits was exceptional as well. Entrees were the Local Drum and Snapper, both very fresh and flavorful, I think my Drum won, but my wife was partial to her Snapper, so call it a draw. Dessert we shared the Salty Malty Ice Cream Cake, because any other dessert cannot be better than this one!
