GW Fins Ratings and Reviews
It’s my and my wife’s favorite restaurant in town. The food is creative yet accessible to the average eater. It has wonderful atmosphere and the service is great. It’s a fantastic choice to celebrate a special occasion as they throw in a few special touches to make the meal memorable. The food is excellent and the rotating menu ensures they are plenty of options for those looking to try new things. I highly recommend.
We had a group of four, we went for pre- theater dinner. We had a bottle of wine, excellent, and 1 had a cucumber jalapeño martini, excellent. We had the pork belly appetizer, very good, beet salad, very good.We each ordered a different kind of fish, drum, red fish, pompano, and swordfish. We shared them all, they were all excellent, we all agreed that the pompano was the best. The service was excellent and they made sure we got out on time to make it to the theater. We will definitely eat there again.
This is one of my “Go To” restaurants. The best seafood! I take all out of Towners there and they and I have never been disappointed. It is not a chain. Is a one and only with great quality and a innovative seafood cuisine. I dine there every month after the symphony. I can not say enough good things about GW Fins!
We arrived on time for our reservation and had about a 20 min wait. We were seated in the worst spot in the restaurant. We were in the path from the kitchen and next to a booth with only a divider so we were almost in the conversation with the folks next to us. After having to wait they could have at least given us a decent table. The food was great and the waiter was attentive.
We got married in NOLA last year on 11/18, had dinner that night at GW Fins...so decided this year to make it a tradition to celebrate our Anniversary at GW Fins every year.
The food is amazing, as is the service, and they make every effort to acknowlege any special occasion in a personalized menu as well as a decorated table. I love this place! So very special.
OMG! Might be the best meal I've ever had. And, I'm a foodie. I will never have soft shell crab again anywhere because it could never compare and I want to keep this experience pristine in my memory. I had the scalibut due to other reviews but it was just good, not fabulous. My dinner partner had the Dori which was fabulous as were the lobster dumplings. The salty malty dessert was incredible, as well. The service was attentive without being uncomfortable. Fabulous restaurant in a city of great food.
Food was excellent. Gumbo was to die for. Lobster dumplings and gnocchi were the best. Soft shells and red snapper were wonderful. The bread pudding and salty malty was out of this world. Needless to say we loved the food and will be back when we come to Nola again.
I visit as often as I can and have never been disappointed. This visit two of the four had ordered the swordfish. It was dry and "tough". Never experienced anything of the like at GW's. We were taken care of immediately and a substitute dish was supplied. I guess on rare occasions even the best restaurants can get a less than acceptable item from a supplier. The important thing is that the customer is taken care of. I will be back!!!!
Ambience, an attentive and personable "wait crew," food flavor and presentation ... all were excellent. No complaints. And, worthy of note: The one-way street on which the restaurant is located was completely blocked, at the nearest corner, for construction. Thus, access was by foot, only, and a tad dicey. But: When we left, at 7:30 p.m., or so, approximately 40 people had flooded the lobby and the sidewalk, waiting for a table — a living and milling testimony to the popularity of G.W. Fins.
Great food and great service. Was hoping for a special meal to help make it a special evening and I was not disappointed. My wife had the Tuna and I had the Drum. We both loved our dishes. The sides were excellent too. Though the side portions could be a bit larger. Next time in New Orleans we will be back. Did not have dessert as we headed over to the Cafe Du Monde for beignets.
Excellent dinner! Very nice service. Would have preferred being in the main dining room rather than the room off to the side. Felt as if we were "put off" to the side and didn't meet whatever criteria they have for the main dining room. Were dressed up appropriately.
Food very good with good service. We split tuna tartar and shrimp romoulade apps (kitchen split for us). Both very good though dressing on romoulade better on shrimp and tomatoe than on salad. Scallops and 'Scalibut' (combo scallop and Halibut) were excellent and tasted fresh. Certainly would return.
