The restaurant was virtually empty except for one other table and we were seated at the top end of the dining room by the widow, which is what I requested when I booked the table. So far so good. Unfortunately, It went a bit downhill from here. The service was painfully slow throughout the evening, which was surprising considering how quiet the restaurant was. We were booked in for 8pm and although the starter arrived pretty quickly and we were aware there was a 30 minute cooking time for the main course, we didn’t get it until nearly 9.30. In between, it was as though they’d completely forgotten we were there. No one came to ask if we wanted any drinks, or if everything was okay with our meal. We had to ask for another drink ourselves when someone was passing and even then, it still took an age to arrive, despite mentioning to another member of staff that we’d ordered it. We then asked if we could order a bottle of white wine and when it arrived, it was barely chilled. It was a warm night and the room was incredibly hot, so a nice glass of cold wine would have great but we ended up leaving a third of the bottle as it just wasn’t enjoyable. No one asked us if everything had been okay when they brought the bill and usually we would have said something about our experience but to be honest, it was so late that we just wanted to leave, so we paid up and left. A shame really as the food was okay but it’s not somewhere we’ll be rushing back to.

Ordered a starter of the buttermilk chicken for us to share, the portion was enormous and I'm not sure how just 1 person could eat it plus a main, however, after I'd bitten into my first piece and cut open another for my husband, I could see the chicken was still very much pink inside, we immediately sent it back and cancelled a replacement as it put us off. The waitress was very gracious and offered us free desserts to compensate. We both had the famous pie for main, it was good, not the best I've ever had, but good all the same, plenty of filling, the gravy was lovely, and mash very good also, however the accompanying vegetables were far too hard and not very enjoyable. We didn't go for a pudding as we were too full, but we did accept a free round of drinks. The lady serving was very good throughout.

Lovely pub, beautiful interiors, staff were very very good, but the pies were truly spectacular! We got the steak and ale and the curry chicken, and both were exceptional, best pies we’ve ever eaten!

The steak and ale pie at Guy Fawkes is the best. We ate similar pies in various establishments, while good, they did not compare. We had the mash one time and the chips another. Personal preference!

Lovely steak an ale pie, very rich but great. Ham hick and cheddar pie was amazing. Dear but filling. Staff were fabulous and of course a great location. Would recommended to friends.

Went to the Guy Fawkes inn because I love a steak and ale pie and reviews I’d seen were very positive for this. The pie and mash and gravy were really good but was served without the seasonal veg as advertised on the menu. We ordered honey glazed carrots as a side and this was clearly forgotten as we had to remind the waitress about this half way through the meal (but to be fair they didn’t charge us for them). We didn’t get offered a drink menu but that didn’t really bother me because I knee I would share a bottle of Malbec with my other half. Cutting to the chase, we had 2 steak and ale pies with mash and carrots and a total of 4 large glasses of Malbec and it was very tasty. But including serving charge making it comfortably over £100 was not good value. No starter, no dessert, 1 bottle of Malbec plus 1 glass of Malbec, 2 steak pies and mash and carrots came to about £110. Very tasty and enjoyable but not great value. The staff were great btw

A very pleasant environment with unobtrusive attention from the staff, great food and drink at a reasonable price. Highly recommended.

Never eaten there before. Tried to move my booking earlier, unable to on OpenTable or ringing the venue, apparently they were fully booked. Arrived and it was pretty much dead. Overheard a couple who walked in asking if they could eat, they were told yes they could sit anywhere! Informing the bartender we had a booking he checked us in, then looked puzzled as to where to sit us in the empty garden?!? The table wasn’t clean, they didn’t come to clean it. We weren’t given any menus, or told how we should order, I had to ask. We ordered pies for the adults and cheeseburgers for the kids, given the menu stated to give at least 30 mins for the pies, I asked if the kids meals could come first. Apparently the bartender went and asked the kitchen. They arrived at the same time as our food, 50 mins later (it wasn’t busy!). The food was good though.
