   I booked this on a recommendation based on research about York. When I looked at the picture gallery it appeared that the outdoor area would be covered & full of heaters & blankets as all indoor tables were booked. This was not the case and it was too cold to enjoy our dinner. There was a QR code to order meals and drinks so the service was impersonal. The food was fine, but it is a chain so there’s reheating going on as opposed to preparing meals from scratch. Most places in York are designed for tourists visiting from abroad. There’s a big emphasis on history and Britishness. As a fellow Brit here for the weekend, this pub & restaurant feels like a tourist trap.

   3rd visit, definitely not as good as previously! Expensive & smaller portions.

   Beautiful bar and restaurant. We sat out in the beer garden and it was a very nice atmosphere. The food was lovely and the staff were very nice.

   Great Sunday lunch with a friend, I chose pork she chose beef with a portion of cauliflower cheese. A bit steep for £7.95 for a veggie side. All was hot and tasty but no pork crackling as stated on the menu. All very enjoyable and would visit again.

   Normally an excellent experience but on this occasion very disappointed and would consider whether we visited for food again. Booked on the day early afternoon where there were plenty of time slots available. Selected 8.15. Arrived 10 minutes before to be told the previous guests still at the the table, completely fine and understandable. After 20 minutes, checked with staff that we hadn't been forgetten to be told the previous guests had overstayed! There was no suggestion of if/when we would be seated. It continued with no communication from the young contingent of staff we continued to wait for an hour when we gave up on waiting. We cancelled the booking at the bar where the young staff member apologised but no explanation why. Can only presume they were short staffed! Very disappointed! I have also emailed the Guy Fawkes Inn using the only email I could find @reservations and have up to now not received a reply.

   Fantastic meal as always. Pie was delicious. New pie options on the menu which is great. Highly recommend.

   The steak and Ale pie was amazing not enough mash potato in my opinion, the gravy was good but very rich. One thing lacking was veg as part of the price and had to pay extra for it which was nothing special. My partner had the lasagna which she felt was too sweet and the ox cheek in the lasagna lacked flavour. The garlic bread that came with it was ok. We added chips as well and all in all we both enjoyed our time here.

   Despite being very busy, we received a warm welcome. The service was good and the food was great!

    Excellent food- excellent service - had beef roast dinner which had so much meat and gravy was amazing - steak pie was 2nd meal which had so much meat in it and again the gravy was amazing
