Celebrate a birthday.
Food was delicious and service was great! Family friendly.
Everything at Gus’s is absolutely delicious - 7 of us shared 2 full racks of St Louis ribs, brisket, tri tip, pulled pork nachos, cornbread, onion strings and many sides and everything hit the spot just right. Their pecan bar and blueberry cobbler desserts were also on point.
Even with reservations we got worst seat in the house. It was either that or an hour wait. There were very busy, so understandable. Were made to feel rushed the whole time. Pool of oil in onion straws, tri-tip was tough( replaced with dry brisket) mashed potatoes and mac watery and bland. Burger and sweet potato fries good. Margarita excellent. Service good. Overall a disappointment for the price.
It was our first time to Gus's (July 4th.) It was packed and very lively, which was fun. Our server was friendly and knowledgeable. But my biggest gripe is how SPICY HOT a lot of the food was. The garnish pickles, the greens, my husband's baked beans; all overly spicy hot. It would be nice to be informed of that beforehand so one could go slow and not dive in as I did. But the flavor of the ribs (I got spare and he got baby-back) was good. I think the baby-back ribs are better than the spare ribs. We'll go back to enjoy the ambiance and for burgers (which hopefully won't be spicy!) another time.
Food is always great at Gus’s, we’ve never been disappointed. Service is friendly and prompt.
Great job, Gus’s!
One of the very few places in the Pasadena area that serves Southern style BBQ. Definitely worth the trip. It can get crowded here, so if you want to skip that wait, you can make reservations through their website. I made reservations for the 4th of July and I'm really glad I did, as it was a really long wait otherwise.
We were given a comfortable booth.
Our server, Brittney, was friendly and knowledgeable. She let us take our time with the dining selections. The food was delicious!
The other staff also kept an eye on us to follow up on any service needs.
The BEST BBQ west of the Mississippi!
Great food and table service, but the time to get seated (even when I had a reservation) was horrible. Check- in was disorganized and seemed to seat friends first. Hopefully next time things will be better.
Have gone to gus's multiple times without reservations and they are always very helpful with estimating wait times but having a reservation was a lot better especially during their busy hours!
It's a small restaurant with maximized tables for service. Food was good. Service with quick and tasty. Busy place but still a good place for gathering for families. But mostly smaller tables for groups of two to four people with a few larger booths for our group of 9 people.
Easy parking adjacent to the establishment.
Thank you for great experience.
Gus's is a really nice place for any meal; we love to go there for breakfast/brunch. This past Sunday, we made a reservation for 1:45 (it was about 1:00, and that was the earliest available time). We got there about 1:10 and checked in with the host. He informed us that they were "a little behind," but would do their best to seat us on time. It was VERY crowded. At least three times, he asked us whether our reservation was under the name (fill in the blank), and each time, we said, "No, it's under Linda." Finally, we were seated at one of the very small tables for two along the north wall across from the counter. I did not even have room for my purse on the seat; I believe that those tables should be reserved for single diners (I am NOT a huge person). The food and service were excellent, as always, so the wait was worth it.
Later that day, I received an email message from Open Table telling me that they were sorry our reservation did not work out. Fortunately, they allow customers to explain, and I certainly did. I don't know what the problem with busy times is at Gus's, but I have to say that their system is not very efficient. I hope they will find a way to improve it because it's a very nice place to dine, but better without problems like the one my friend and I encountered.
You cansmell the smoke as you drive up .They great drinks and breakfast also.
Restaurant didn’t honor reservation and after 20 minutes forced us to sit in the chaotic counter area. So much foot traffic and loud noises, ruined the ambiance and was hard to enjoy the meal. Waitress that had the counter area tables also had tables in the main dining area so we didn’t get checked up on often.
It was amazing bbq. It tastes like your dad is in the backyard. It’s not over cooked bbq like a certain “ranch” does. The portions are just right. You’re not feeling like you have to eat more when you’re stuffed. The beer is amazing, too! It’s a little on the pricey side, but if you took the time to make a reservation here, you knew what you were getting yourself into.
They couldn't believe that a BBQ restaurant would serve breakfast. We ordered from the breakfast and lunch menu. Everyone enjoyed their food.
Great food and big portions! Excellent service
Great as always. Tried the fried chicken for the first time and enjoyed it.
Always excellent food and service
Love this place. Food never disappoints
I would say that this visit to Gus' BBQ was different in many ways and not for the better. We had at least 3 different servers help us; none of which came back to refill drinks unless we asked. This was confusing because we didn't know who to ask for help. The cobb salad I ordered was small for the price, $13+. The noise level was high for a Wednesday lunch hour. At least my friend enjoyed her lunch.
Delish dining experience! Full rack of baby back ribs were tender on the inside and smokey yummy on the outside. Side of green beans was sauteed and nicely seasoned. Definitely try the corn bread, served in the little iron skillet it was baked in, with the homemade jalapeno jelly and lots of butter. Thank out Open Table for bringing this memorable restaurant to our attention!
We are new to CA and love it here even more since discovering Gus’s! From the Deep South where BBQ takes on the aura of religion, we came the first time with some skepticism but were delighted at the fabulous food and variety of regional sauces. Our family of 8 ranging in age from 82 to 6 had a fabulous meal Sunday and will be back!
Great ambiance, lots of great BBQ choices to pick from. Even if you are a vegetarian, the drink menu has a good variety of wines, beers and mixed drinks.
Having tried out very many BBQ places, we continually go back and prefer Gus's BBQ. And it's good thing they are in our own South Pasadena neighborhood! We go here on any given time, but last night, we came to celebrate my daughter's 8th Grade Promotion with some friends. Our orders: smoked sausage, baby back ribs, pulled pork nachos, tri tip! All delicious! For the sides, we love the jalapeno cheese grits, sweet potato fries, braised green beans, and mac & cheese. The only thing we would like to see an improvement on is the wait time - although they do accept reservations ahead of time, and the slowness in getting our orders in. Other than that, this place is a local gem!
We had a great time thanks a lot, the food was perfect 👍🏼 We’ll recommend it
I have been going here for years, lately it’s been crowded so I stopped going. I checked on opentable and they had a reservation available that wasn’t too late. Going back was so nice, the food and service is still amazing.
Great cocktails & wine, great food, & the most wonderful friendly staff. It was a great evening. Looking forward to going again to try another delicious item on their menu. For anyone new to Gus’s, make sure you make a reservation. You’ll be happy you did...yes, they’re that popular, that busy & so worth it.
They were out of Chardonnay wine
Great food and comfy place to eat
Management is amazing. The Meat Selection for the most part had ran out for the day mind you it was Memorial Day so I can totally understand the manager made it his mission to ensure our satisfaction by upgrading our meal and more free of charge. Ensured about 4 times we were satisfied best customer experience I have ever experienced.
Very good food and very good service. Smallish restaurant and very noisy.
Disappointed with the baby back ribs the taste isn’t perfect tried others better than this one. But the most caught my taste bud is the corn bread, so delicious.
Fun atmosphere. Service was friendly and attentive. Barbecued Chicken was outstanding! Yummy!
It wasn’t all that !
I'm working my way through the menu! Thus far it has all been good!!
Every single new person I've taken here has been happy and or overwhelmed by the food quality and fantastic flavor. Must gets are the Ribs and Nashville hot Fried chicken.
One of my favorites! Always great food and all the staff are very friendly!
