Recently named one of the top 10 BBQ restaurants on the west coast by Sunset Magazine, Gus’s also boasts a super hip bar that serves an impressive list of bourbon and draft beer!
The food is pretty good, but nothing really special.
Decent value, but not a bargain, and the service is decent but hardly outstanding.
If you want to grab a bbq sandwich and a beer it’s a decent option.
Great food and service
Food and server was great as usual. They forgot to sign me in on my Open Table.
We will be back. The baby back ribs were fantastic. The chick was okay
Excellent food, service and experience!!! 5 stars
Great food and service
Excellent food, fast service. It was very crowded but we had a reservation and got right in!
Love Gus’ BBQ. We eat there once a month. The food is excellent, the staff is very nice and responsive. It’s a very pleasant experience for us.
It’s always a pleasure to eat at Gus’.
Good gumbo
It’s great
Glad we had reservations and with quick seating and menu selections made, the wait was still too long before our meals were served. One must be willing to wait and not be in a hurry when dining there.
Been coming here for over 11 years. Always great but recently the pulled pork nachos were getting a bit skimpy. But this recent visit was awesome again. I don’t think it’s intentional, I think they are busy and they don’t notice. Glad that the new person preparing the item is making them perfect! Love the sangria drink. Great place for an reason or occasion. Favorite place and always hits the spot. Great service.
Great barbecue and excellent service. We were seated immediately (with reservations using OpenTable). We started with creative cocktails. Our dinners were very tasty. I had the pulled pork sandwich and baked beans. Yum! Bill had the brick oven chicken and Scott had ribs, sausage and tri-tip. They also enjoy their entrees. Unfortunately we didn’t leave room for dessert because the menu looked great. We will be back!
The brunch is always amazing - food and cocktails both.
Tri-tip was tough, couldn’t chew it, a/c was cold (front room) and very loud and obnoxious party next to us made it a very unpleasant experience, not like what I am accustomed to at Gus’s.
We always enjoy the food at Gus’s. The menu provides classic BBQ as well as interesting starters and delectable sides. Good service. It was crowded due to popularity on a Friday night. Tables are packed in, which gives it a good energy for me. Parking was a challenge, but we found street parking within a block. We skipped dessert and crossed the street for ice cream at a very authentic soda fountain shop. It’s a fun two stop evening in a charming neighborhood.
Birthday dinner for a cousin.
Julia, our server, was fantastic. We’ve never had bad service but it has rarely stood out before. Julia is next level: genuine, authentic, bubbly and helpful. Like she’s doing her job with enthusiasm because if we have to do something why not make the most of it and be awesome? Julia is awesome.
Best BBQ in town and the drinks a very good also. Service was as you would expect and the food was hot and freash.
Best BBQ we have found in LA area since we moved here over 2 years ago!
Excellent food and service
Very noisy inside. We were able to eat outside. It's always been a local favorite.
My ribs were dry but tasty ... all the moisture was on the outside - sauce, sugar, honey if they use it. Brussels sprouts were overcooked and bitter.
Friends brisket was very salty
Great food! Excellent service
The food and the presentation was amazing! The meat on the ribs falls right off the bone.
We usually love Gus's. It's funny, on the way to Gus's for brunch, we were telling my partner how great the food was. Isn't always the case that it turns out being horrible! It's just like hearing from friends about how great a movie is and then you see it and you're like, meh.
Anyway, I'm just going to preface this by saying, I think our server was new. Service was kinda slow (I couldn't figure out why, because there were a ton of empty tables and the staff to customer ratio was like 1:1), and it took a bit to get our drink orders in, which wasn't much of an issue because we were chatting with one another.
So then, drinks are delivered and we place our meal orders. We wait 20 minutes or so and then food arrives. Two out of the four orders are wrong! My sister is vegetarian and orders her meal without meat. Well, of course it arrives with meat. My order and my brother-in-law's order were fine. My partner ordered the bacon and cheese grits entree and they show up with a side of grits. They are kinda huffy about our orders being wrong, but how was that our fault?
Meanwhile, my brother-in-law and I are sitting there with our food in front of us, waiting on the other food to arrive. I kid you not, we waited a good 20 minutes for them to correct THEIR mistake (and they still got it wrong). Of the two wrong meals, my sister's came first and it was still wrong!
So, we continue to wait. Another 10 minutes goes by and they bring my sister's order (which is now finally correct). Meanwhile, we are still waiting for my partners super simple order of bacon cheddar grits. How hard is that to throw some grits in a bowl and top it with bacon and cheese? Several more minutes go by and then finally, everyone has a meal in front of them! Now I can eat my super cold food.
We never got an apology from the manager about sorry they were for messing up our orders or for the extremely long wait for our meals!
Unfortunately, we were sat in front in little seats and had a reservation. Food was great and service was great. The hostess ignored the fact we had reservations and would wait for a booth. And would not accommodate us . The a/c by the front door were we sat was freezing and the food got cold pretty quickly. But you were all too busy to hear what i had to say.
We love the pulled pork nachos to share.
The food was absolutely fantastic. Great chicken and ribs and the sides are unbelievable. I would recommend this for any get together.
Always excellent food and service
Excellent BBQ, excellent service, and a relaxed welcoming atmosphere - thumbs up all round :)
This was literally the best bbq that I have ever had. Service was great. I had a bbq combo. An easy recommendation if you like bbq.
It’s always my favorite neighborhood restaurant to be with my family and friends.
Great food and service
The manager of Gus's BBQ (His name is Jordan) was absolutely amazing. He worked extra hard to make sure that my party of 5 was taking care of with out any hitches. The service was out standing and the food was to die for! Gus' BBQ is one of our favorite spots for weekend brunch. who knew that could receive a little southern hospitality in Pasadena!!
Always a reliably good meal. Ours was rather later in the evening so the place was quiet. Not always the case
Good food in a pleasant atmosphere.
The manager did not know how to process my $10 reward voucher.
Great food! Good service! Had my reservation and good atmosphere! Thank you! We’ll be back!
