Guppy's Ratings and Reviews
My Mahi Mahi was outstanding. Good portion size of the fish with a wonderful coating & cooked to perfection, but the accompanying lemon spinach—though tasting wonderful—was a skimpy portion. The grilled octopus of the octopus appetizer was okay, but drenched in too much sauce. Barrata appetizer was a bit small, & again the flavor of the cheese was overpowered by sauces. Neither was bad, but I’ll Look for other appetizers on my next visit. Ho-hum house salad.
All 4 dinners at our table were fine, and the service was better than adequate. I’ll go back, but I’ll stick to grilled, blackened or baked fish—& anything I order I will ask that the sauces be put on the side. All the appetizers, salads & sides I ate on this & previous visits I can cook as well or better at home, but I can’t begin to prepare or cook fish as well as Guppy’s does.
Oh man! Of the 3 diners tonight, we all said we had the best. I had a bite of the other meals, and indeed, although they were good, mine was the best. Shrimp Saute. Absolutely delicious!!! Dessert was a banana nut bread French Toast with a carmel/butterscotch sauce and vanilla ice cream. To give up the first born for!!!!! Our server, David, was knowledgeable and engaging. This was truly a wonderful experience.
The food and service is excellent. My husband had one of the specials and loved it. I stuck with the crab cakes, which are fantastic. Salad is delicious. Our server, Megan, was helpful and friendly. We ate outside, and even though the temperature was COOL, it was warm with the heaters and plastic covers. We enjoyed the evening and would recommend Guppy's for great seafood.
With a large group and outside seating on a cool night not an option, I opted for Open Table. Table was ready as we arrived. Inside can be a bit noisy but we were festive. Robert, the BEST server, was assigned to us. With many different entrees chosen, he patiently explained all. I go to Guppy's at least twice per month and every time wonder why not more often. It is wonderful with amazing food.
We made a reservation through open window but were offered only outdoor seating in the sea fog. Apparently if you don't tick indoor the reservation defaults to out door. We may as well not have had a reservation as we were the last to be seated. We also had a coupon for 25% of f which was given to the waitress before ordering and she put in her pocket. When the bill came there was no discount. When mentioned the bill was recalculated. Did she err or is this the policy. No discount unless you complain. It was extremely noisy as expected. The service was good as was the food. If your dining late I would recommend this establishment.
I’ve been dining here for over 20 years, but this is the first opportunity I’ve had to review on Open Table. This neighborhood gem is off the beaten path between Clearwater and St. Pete and has a strong local clientele. Food is consistently good. Worth the drive, if you are not a local. Reservations essential during prime dinner hours. Walk-ins usually OK for lunch. Some of the best seafood you’ll find on Gulf Blvd.
We were very happy to be able to book a reservation. When we arrived, we were greeted warmly and were seated within 10minutes. The server was prompt and courteous, serving drinks quickly. Food was delicious and served hot. I have booked servers large parties in the past at Guppy’s and always have had excellent service and delicious food. We will be back.
New Year’s Eve dinner was good except for the lobster bisque, which contained no lobster chunks and was tasteless. Should be removed from menu if it cannot be prepared any better. The fried oyster appetizer was light and tasty and the potato crusted Salmon over eggplant was excellent.
On a recent trip to the beach we went to Guppy's for both lunch and dinner (on different days of course). I had fish chowder as it was served with black rum and sherry peppers just like in Bermuda. It was absolutely delicious! For dinner we had lobster tails which were excellently prepared. BTW, their sangria was so good that we had a pitcher on both occasions. Our favorite server was Christine. She was attentive without being obtrusive and she had personality to boot. To sum it up, Delicious food, wonderful service with personality blended in. We'll definitely be back on our next trip!
Ordered lobster mac n cheese and lobstercargo as appy. Didn't dissappoint. Coconut shrimp, lemin thyme rice and fresh green beans and special of potato crusted salmon with garlic leek sauce. All was superb. Our server Amber was so very patient and helpful. We will definitely be back
