Gulliver's Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
Made a reservation for 2:15 for my sisters birthday. We didn't realize that the restaurant closed at 3:00 for an our to prepare for the dinner reopening. Our waitress was quick to let us know that the kitchen would be closing so we needed to hurry up and order. It was apparent that our waitress was more interested in getting us out of there sooner rather than later and her approach made us feel that we were not really welcomed there. Her people skills were below my expectations for a restaurant that has been in business for so many years and has always been represented as upscale. Disappointed for sure. Don't know if I will go there again at this point.
Reservation made 3 weeks before occasion--7:00pm for 7 people---we were seated at 7:50pm. They did comp an appetizer and wine, but almost an hour wait with a reservation is unacceptable. Also, the server botched our bill twice--tried to charge us for extra meals and drinks. Would not go there again.
We arrived at 5:00 for a 6:30 dinner. The plan was to have drinks and discuss a few business items prior to dinner. We sat at a table in the bar. It was so busy, it was a Wednesday, that the ONE server for the bar couldn't keep up. We had 2 drinks prior to moving to our dinner table.
The waitress was good, but once again over whelmed with how busy she was. When asked for olive oil, she said she would try to get to it. When I'm spending in excess of $500.00 in an establishment, I expect more.
The food was great and I would say the staff was equally as good, if they had more of them.
Gulliver's is one of our favorite restaurants . The food is excellent and the service is always good. We made reservations for 5 people Saturday night and this was the case but it was so crowded and the tables were so close with Christmas parties and family get togethers that the waitresses were constantly asking everyone to scoot in so they could push the food carts between the tables. They were very nice about it and the evening was a sucess and the food delicious.
As the host, I wish that they had one less table in each dining room so you weren't constantly being interrupted during the meal to move your chair.
When a special occasion is requested why would anyone be seated right next to the kitchen/staff entrance/exit to/from the kitchen??? We were so looking forward to seeing each other for a special time... we've always celebrated at Gulliver's... unfortunately never again🙁
My family and I went to Gulliver's to celebrate my 60th birthday. The atmosphere was very nice, it was decorated for the holidays and was very festive. The main reason why I rated the restaurant fair was because of several issues with the food:
1. The bread basket was full of hard bread. There was sliced french bread and sliced foccacia type of bread. Both types of break were hard on the outside, as if they had been sitting for awhile. Foccacia (forgive my spelling) is normally soft. My elderly parents had a hard time eating the bread. We could have complained to the waitress but just dealt with it.
2. Creamed corn was too thick. As it sits on the dish, it becomes very unappetizing.
3. I ordered the prime rib bones, normally my favorite dish, but all the ribs were over cooked instead of being juicy and tender. You can tell by just looking at the meat that it was overcooked.
However, the lamb dish was excellent and tender. The rib eye and the filet mignon was also enjoyed by my guests.
Gulliver's is a solid English pub-style restaurant. Portions were enormous, and a good value. The bread is also excellent. Service was attentive and the pub theme is carried out very thoroughly. However, the quality of the food is largely average. My prime rib was very dry, as was the trifle for dessert. I'd be happy to return, though, as the overall experience was good.
For a family of first responders, always having to adjust our holidays due to crazy work schedules, this place never disappoints. We celebrated Thanksgiving Wednesday with immediate family and had a great time, with great food.
