Gulliver's Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
As an Orange County native, I have driven past Gulliver’s a thousand times it seems. Groupon brought me in, finally. Incredible portion of Prime Rib was cooked perfectly and offered wonderful flavor. Added straight horse radish to house mix (too weak). No big deal. Bread pudding and creamed spinach were also delicious. Creamed corn was too sweet for my pallet. Overall we (3 of us) loved the food and would recommend to others.
The food was excellent as usual. The house salad was excellent along with the filet and salmon. The creamed corn could be a dessert although they serve it with your meal. Our waiter Shane was excellent and attentive without being overbearing. The Christmas decorations are as good as anywhere.
An old school restaurant with paneled walls, wooden tables and chairs, and waiters who remember their customers. Prime rib is hard to beat... yorkshire pudding difficult to find anywhere else (try it!)... the total experiance is awesome. They also have salmon, duck, steak, tornedos, rack of lamb... great wine list... excellent bar... only negative is they are a little espensive.
The only reason I gave this 2 stars is because the service was great! For those of you that are looking for prime rib don't come here. You can get better quality and tasting prime rib at the grocery store. The creamed corn and other sides were just ok. We also ordered the garlic mashed potatoes but they must've forgotten to add the garlic. I also added the 8oz lobster tail for $31. Don't bother with the lobster. The lobster was mushy and tasteless. If you want prime rib go to Dal Rae or any of the Lawry's Family of Restaurants. When Carrow's has their prime rib special, go there instead of Gulliver's!
I asked to sit in the Study and instead was seated in a booth in the main dining room even though there were tables available in the study. The booth was closed off so you couldn’t see much of the Christmas decorations. The host who assigned our table said that it was near the Study. They moved us after I complained.
The food was quite good, but every staff member we dealt with from the hostess at the front to our server seemed to either have an attitude or just didn’t care that we waited for about an hour for our food. The table next to us sat after us, ordered after us, had their food and coffee and was ready to leave by the time we were served. Very unfortunate for such an OC icon. Not sure we’d be back as it is not inexpensive enough to give the staff another try.
Occasion was Christmas Eve Dinner: Only flaw was the conflicting reservation confirmations. One person called to confirm our 5:45pm then another called to confirm 3:30pm. BUT our reservation was for 5:45 as I had other plans that had to be changed to work with their 3:30pm. It all worked out and I was compensated for the inconvenience, but they need to communicate and not have two persons call to confirm reservations. Other than the confusion on their part over our reservation, the food and service were excellent.
Our family had Christmas Eve Dinner and it was perfect. Our server was professional and friendly. He met all our needs in a timely manner and he was busy. We sat in the back room and it was decorated beautifully. Didn't know this room existed, and it was very comfortable. The food was delicious and hot, the proportions generous and the selection was varied. Thank you for making our dining so nice.
My brother and I went for lunch on Christmas Eve. It was a special menu but with lots of choices. We chose the Prime Rib and it was served with creamed spinach, creamed corn and Yorkshire pudding, which was nice as usually you don't gets these sides with lunch. The food was excellent; prepared perfectly and to order. The service was also excellent. I love that Gulliver's decorates for the holidays. Very nice ambiance!
If you’re getting to know someone or are deeply in love, the best table is the corner booth just to the right as you go down the stairs to the dining room. Sit next to each other, talk, listen, watch as the staff guides you through the evening of culinary delights -
We go to Gullivers with close friends every year at Christmas to enjoy the fabulous Christmas decor and good food. Last year I was disappointed with both the food and service, but this year they are back on track. The prime rib and duck were better than ever, and the service was perfect. Thank you Gullivers for correcting your issues and once again making our annual Christmas celebration a special and memorable occasion.
Have been dining at Gulliver's for many, many years and have never been disappointed. This time is was evening better, great food, excellent service and beautifully decorated for the seasons. This is one of the old school restaurants that sticks to the tradition... just love it.
Worst dinning experience I have ever had. Had reservations and still waited for 1 1/2 hour. Food was horrible. Service very poor. Front desk person consistently lied about being seated to table. It was very expensive and horrible. Will never go back. Will never recommend. I wish I had gone to McDonald's.
Have been going there for years for the prime rib. Would not return. The prime rib was only fair and overpriced for the portion served, they always have the same side dishes,( german potato salad&vegetables) which we don't care for and no options.
We realize it is the holidays so they were very busy, but the noise was such that it was difficult to carry on a conversation.
The waiter was friendly but screwed up the order about 3-4 times.
Made a reservation for 2:15 for my sisters birthday. We didn't realize that the restaurant closed at 3:00 for an our to prepare for the dinner reopening. Our waitress was quick to let us know that the kitchen would be closing so we needed to hurry up and order. It was apparent that our waitress was more interested in getting us out of there sooner rather than later and her approach made us feel that we were not really welcomed there. Her people skills were below my expectations for a restaurant that has been in business for so many years and has always been represented as upscale. Disappointed for sure. Don't know if I will go there again at this point.
Reservation made 3 weeks before occasion--7:00pm for 7 people---we were seated at 7:50pm. They did comp an appetizer and wine, but almost an hour wait with a reservation is unacceptable. Also, the server botched our bill twice--tried to charge us for extra meals and drinks. Would not go there again.
We arrived at 5:00 for a 6:30 dinner. The plan was to have drinks and discuss a few business items prior to dinner. We sat at a table in the bar. It was so busy, it was a Wednesday, that the ONE server for the bar couldn't keep up. We had 2 drinks prior to moving to our dinner table.
The waitress was good, but once again over whelmed with how busy she was. When asked for olive oil, she said she would try to get to it. When I'm spending in excess of $500.00 in an establishment, I expect more.
The food was great and I would say the staff was equally as good, if they had more of them.
