Gulliver's Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
We love the way this restaurant decorates for Christmas and Valentines day. The waiting staff outfits work well with feel of the restaurant. My only real complaint is that it so loud and noisy that you can't really have a conversation with the people at your table. The tables are also possibly too close to each other. I would like to see this restaurant have a dress code that wouldn't allow people in with T-shirts and shorts at dinner time. It does take away with the over all feel of this restaurant.
our family had 5 birthdays in February so we decided to take the mob to Gulliver's for dinner to celebrate. One had the Gulliver's salad as an entrée, the rest of us had prime rib from medium rare to end cut (well done). The prime rib was delicious, tender and flavorful. You also can't beat the Gulliver's corn, Yorkshire pudding and cream spinach. All went well with a Robert Mondavi Cabernet
Our server was friendly and patient. He knew we were there to talk as well as eat so he didn't put any pressure on us to order.
All in all a very pleasant evening with great food. Just what I expect when I come here to one of my favorite restaurants
The restaurant has a very big open dinning room, with a visible cooking area. It is very casual. A great place to come if you are wanting steak or prime rib. Everything was EXCELLENT! The crab cake appetizer was so delicious!, Prime rib cooked perfectly and the creme brûlée OMG to die for. Service was quick and attentive. We had a wonderful Valentines night!
As usual the food and ambience were outstanding. In addition, the restaurant was decorated for Valentine's Day, which was very special.
On the negative side, even though we had a reservation, and our table was ready, we were asked by the receptionist to wait in the lobby until our guest arrived; totally unacceptable, we should have been seated immediately upon our arrival.
Finally, even thought the restaurant was not busy during our meal, the table service was very slow.
I downloaded the open table app and made a reservation for 8pm since it was the weekend before Valentine’s Day. When we arrived they said they had a few tables getting up and they were running a bit behind and asked if we could wait in the lounge where I overheard the host use the same excuse to every guest that walked through the doors. Twenty five minutes later we finally got seated at our table next to the open kitchen. I looked around and noticed there was lots of open tables and a few empty rooms. I counted at least 6 servers but it looked like there might of been some large parties in a back room because they would disappear for long period of times. My friend also overheard some employees asking each other who was going to pick up our table. We waited a few minutes and the host came by to ask us if he could get some drinks started since our server was busy. Our server finally showed up and he seemed like he was in a hurry and took our order and left. We ordered crab stuffed mushrooms which were cold and my date ordered a house salad. For our entrees my date ordered the prime cut portion and I ordered the big bone in Broding -nagian portion of prime rib cooked medium rare. We also ordered a side of brussle sprouts and a side of truffle mashed potatoes. The prime ribs came out over cooked and it looked like her portion was bigger than mine. The server informed us that the cook just serves portion he seems fit towards the end of the night. He finished dropping off the food and asked us if everything was ok since he said he was busy cuz he had to go make some salads. Anyways so we saw our server a total of four times. Once to take our order, once to drop our food, once to drop off our cold lava cake and once to take the bill. I just expected a lot more from this restaurant. Maybe they were understaffed or maybe having a bad day but it still doesn’t change the fact that we had a disappointing experience.
My wife and I have eaten there several times and always loved it. It's old, upscale style and the food is great, the service is top notch (especially Tony our waiter) and the drinks are good. We always get bone in prime rib and it's usually perfect but the last time we got a bad cut and Tony immediately took it back and brought us a perfect cut. We've eaten all over the world and If you like great food, service and ambiance, we highly recommend it.
Went to Gullivers for our anniversary. My wife ordered a rack of lamb that was anything but a rack of lamb. 5 pieces of shops scattered all over the plate some medium rare most of them overcooked. And top with fine fried onion. Yes you heard it here first People take note if you want a good prime rib or rack of lamb go to Five Crowns. Same price but way above in the food and ambiance. It felt like we were on a funeral home. Never again.
Couldn't get past the unpleasant , old smell of the restaurant, which I believe comes from the original carpet and original chairs , which are disgustingly dirty and really need to be replaced. The food was fair, but not what I remembered as great from 12 years ago.
All I could taste from the filet medallions served with a "cognac sauce ", was liquid smoke and peppercorns. Because we arrived 15 mins before the kitchen closed, we did not complain or send back the meal. Due to traveling all day and very hungry, Hubby ate my portion.
I must compliment the staff as very friendly, professional and attentive.
Waiter was excellent and pleasant with anything we asked for!! The prime rib was good as usual, chateaubriand good - first time trying it there, combo plate somewhat disappointing--chicken was good and tender; however, the two different rib dishes were both extremely overcooked and could not be eaten. Definitely not falling off the bone:-((
All the side dishes ordered were good as usual except for the spinach which we thought was not "up to par".
Maybe it was an off night as we have been there many times and never had any complaints. So they did not get as good a rating as normal.
Tried Gullivers because all the various Lawrys locations were booked for Dine LA. Glad we tried it but wouldn’t rush back. A very mature crowd (80th bday parties were just about every table). But they were adorable. Prime rib wasn’t anything spectacular & our server just seemed to be going through the motions of her job. Not really warm & friendly or helpful. Just here ya go & that was it. We laughed that they were running behind on reservations but were happy to grab a drink in the bar & check that scene out. We sat at a love seat table which cracked us up but since it was a kid less date night it was fun to pretend we were 20 again. The Christmas decor was gorgeous. I’m glad I was able to see it up since I love to see how restaurants do it up for Christmas.
