Gulfstream Cafe Ratings and Reviews
While not overwhelmed, the food was ok. Our server was good. Two persons replenishing the buffet struggled over refilling French toast and ended up dropping pieces on the floor, while I waited to serve myself.
However, upon arrival at the restaurant very few tables were occupied. I had requested a table with a waterfront view. I was led to probably the worst table in the restaurant while most were not occupied. This table was in direct line of the entryway. It was definitely very close to the table next to it by the window. On the coldest day of the year, with a reservation, I was given a table that literally Was located too close to guests at the next table as well as getting a cold draft each time the door opened for new guests to enter. I felt I was sitting in the hallway. I asked to change our table and was accommodated although less than enthusiastically by the hostess.
I have been to this restaurant before and I was quite impressed with food quality and service. I found this New Year's Day experience disappointing.
the buffet was terrible and definitely not worth the amount charged....burned chicken, no one at the omelet station, no menu service at 2PM, and the only seafood was fried cod chunks and mussels. scrambled eggs, over cooked bacon and link sausage, bagels, fruit salad pretty much sums it up. WE WILL NEVER GO THERE AGAIN. we didn't complain, merely chalked it up to experience. Did I mention this was New Year's eve?
There's a lot to like about this place beyond the food -- beautiful view, excellent bar, great atmosphere, and the best key lime pie I've had. Unfortunately, the main courses are just OK, and I'm not sure why they don't address this problem. I'm not sure this restaurant group is really capable of creating fine dining cuisine. Still, we return several times a year because the other aspects of the dining experience do overshadowed the average food.
I have been coming to this restaurant for years and have always been very happy with the food and service. This time (12/28/2017), I was very disappointed. The service was still fine, but the food was not up to par. The crab cakes were dry, the flounder was over cooked, the grouper tasted fishy as if it were not fresh and the shrimp was just OK, nothing special. Our entire party of 4 felt the same way. And the music was certainly not dinner music (Led Zepplin, Tom Petty and Moody Blues don't cut it for a nice quiet dinner). This trip only makes us want to try some place else next time, and that is unfortunate. Maybe the regular staff was off for the holidays because our experience this time was not good.
We have been going to the Gulf Stream for Christmas Eve for the past 6 years, with close friends. The Grouper we had was the worst meal that we ever had. They were willing to give us another meal in exchange, but not a refund. We have second thought of returning here again.
Excellent food, excellent view of the marsh, excellent service. My only complaint is that I called in advance to ask if I could bring in a birthday cake. They said yes, they would serve it and there would be a cost of $2.50 per person. I agreed. When we got to the restaurant they told me there would be a $25.00 charge for serving the cake. I told them was I was told on the telephone - a charge of $2.50 per person for cake serving. They did agree to honor this. They need to get their policy set on cake serving and be sure everyone is on the same page. It would be really nice if they offered cakes for special occasions. We will definitely eat here again. It is one of our favorite restaurants.
First time here for the Brunch. This restaurant has the best location with great marsh views. The brunch was very good with lots of choices and a great price for what you received. Would do this again, its better than the dinners there.
Santa was also there for the kids, Im sure they loved that. Negatives are the set up location, people were literally up the staircase waiting to access the buffet.
Maybe it was more crowded than normal because of Santa?
Plus its always cold in this restaurant, not sure if the heats off or its the windows.
Overall liked it and would do it again.
Had Thanksgiving dinner with family. Restaurant was lovely if a bit out of the way. Food was standard but a great value for the price. Could have been served a bit quicker and while hot. Server was extremely friendly and attentive. Woudl definitley go again for a non-holiday meal
The Gulfstream Bar & Grill has always been a favorite of our family. From their early bird specials to their regular menu items to their Sunday brunches, they are our number one choice for dining out. We have never had a bad meal there, which indicates to us a very important aspect of an excellent restaurant......consistency. The inlet views, the ocean views, and the sunset views are amazing. The service is always friendly and timely and the food is excellent. So, Gulfstream was, is, and always will be our favorite. The only downside is that during the tourist season they get very busy and you may have to wait awhile to be seated. You see, a lot of other folks really like the place, too!
We have always celebrated Veteran's Day at Gulf Stream Cafe. They have always been so open and respectfully to our military men and women and then there was today. Our friend who usually comes with us brought his mother this time because his wife is going through chemo treatment for cancer. She forgot to bring her military ID so they would not honor her free entree. That was OK and we understood that they required the ID. What wasn't OK is that when he asked to see a manager to ask about it, the manager asked to see their ID's and then when we checked out our waitress said she needed their ID's for the manager to look at. We have never had this happen in the last 4 years we have been coming and feel like the manager was questioning our truthfulness. Granted there are people out there just looking for a free meal, but we had already shown our ID's and told the manager we understood their policy because his 86 year old mother could not produce hers and we would pay for her meal. We felt very disrespected by the manager on duty. We had other friends who dined there that night and they only had to show their ID's to the waitress at seating.
We actually went this day because of a sponsored Veteran event. I was told you could order from the menu. We were looking forward to it, but when we got there it was only a brunch. I would have rather come back and order from the menu. I asked and was told it was only the Brunch being offered to the Veterans. Therefore we stayed. Halfway through our meal a few other people came and thought they were ordering from the menu. They were told they don't have to do the brunch, and can just come back at 4. This is what we had wanted to do, but we're told it was only the brunch being offered. We like Gulfstream Cafe, but disappointed we weren't given the option like others.
After reading the reviews raving about Gulfstream I just did feel it was that special...yes you can see the sunset from the porch and probably most tables, but the restaurant lacked in ambience. This was actually my second time visiting this restaurant and the first time was so unpleasant it took me 2 years to try again. Although they were busy, it wasn’t busy enough for the waitress to ask for our order when she had just delivered the appetizer. I had to tell her we needed about 10 minutes to enjoy our drink and appy before deciding. Not a lot of choices on the menu but our food was ok. Just my opinion but too many other restaurants I’d return to before going back to Gulfstream.
