Guild Tavern Ratings and Reviews
One of our favorite places in a generally foodie-friendly city. This Friday evening, despite a request in OpenTable, we were not offered a booth, even though there were booths available. Noise level was, as usual here on a busy night, pretty high. Service of entrees was very slow, our server apologized and comped us an appetizer; she said they had a very large private party and the kitchen was backed up. Fortunately we weren't in a hurry this evening, and had just enjoyed a dozen oysters (always great here), so were okay with the delay. Steak and shrimp entrees were excellent.
Everything the Farmhouse Group touches is brilliant. The Guild has a great blend of industrial meets Swedish inspired decor, with cozy ambiance and simple tones. Warm, friendly, welcoming, and the menu presents comfort food with the right amount of gourmet flare to make it sophisticated.
Visited with the family while my daughter was home from college. The steak I ordered was over cooked and the waitress never came back to ask how our meal was. I tried getting her attention but she was quite busy. Poutine was very good. We visit the Guild quite often and usually have a decent meal, so I’m hoping this was just a bad night because it is quite expensive.
I have been here once before and it was significantly better the first time I dined here. This time I visited, the service was incredibly slow after we got our meals. It was salty and my gnocchi wasn't cooked correctly. I would try again because I had such a good experience the first time, but if it wasn't great again, I wouldn't recommend.
Reservations at 7:45 pm. We arrived at 7:20 pm. Hostess tells us table not ready yet. Np we go to the bar and order a bottle of wine. 7:45 , 8:00 pm., 8:10 pm we finally go to hostess and explain we were the first 7:45 pm res. To show up and numerous people came in after us and they all were seated. She looks at me and asked me what my name was again.......... good food but extremely bad hostess.... or maybe it was bc we were the only minority couple in restaurant. Never going back.
Wanted to like it...unfortunately my dry rubbed blackened shrimp arrived lukewarm with tails on so a very messy experience! They were tasty, though! My companion's burger ordered as medium arrived completely red throughout, had to send it back! Martini and cab blend were stellar! Still, a $100. evening should be more satisfying!
Sadly, my husband, daughter and I all left feeling like dinner was sub-par. One of my daughter's chicken tenders was black - burned to a crisp. They did tuck it under the properly cooked tender but ... come on. The poutine (a favorite dish of mine) fell flat. The gravy was lacking flavor and most of it along with the cheese seemed to be melted to the bottom of the skillet rather than over the fries. Our burgers were just ok. On a positive note, our waitress was lovely and the salad dressing on the greens was delicious.
Has become our local favorite for that special meal with family and friends. The staff are so attentive and friendly, the food is consistently delicious and the atmosphere really allows for a range of formality - informal dress to more formal. Love the open kitchen concept!
The service at The Guild Tavern was top notch. Our waitress was professional, courteous and efficient. The food was prepared in a timely manner and most importantly, served to us while still hot. Although some would say that the restaurant is overpriced, I disagree. The quality of service and food warrants and justifies a more expensive value. Thank you for being an establishment that values quality. I will not hesitate to return or recommend the restaurant to others.
Believe it or not, this meat tavern has an awesome off-menu vegan option. Our server made the suggestion that I try the chef's "Vegan Delight". It was SO tasty. Tasty, vinegary greens with potatoes and roasted root vegetables. Perfectly cooked and seasoned. Can't believe I am recommending a steak place, but credit where it's due, right?
I had to try this restaurant knowing it is owned by the same owners as The Farmhouse I need downtown Burlington (which is my favorite). We got to The Guild for a late dinner and I could tell it was the end of the night, but everyone was so nice! They have a cool cocktail menu , as well as an awesome beer selection. The cheese platter was amazing and the meals were incredible. The presentation was awesome! Very good meal, on the higher end price wise, but worth it!!
The scent of woodsmoke as we entered was very enticing. Fun decor and loved having a ringside seat to the action in the kitchen.
My salmon was perfectly cooked. The bread was wonderful. My husbands petite sirloin was a good size for a smaller appetite.
My one small complaint is that I thought roasted vegetables would be really roasted and something more creative than bland zucchini summer squash and carrots.
After we left the restaurant we received a call that our check was wrong and we had overpaid for our meal. It was corrected and we were very impressed!
So. Just get more creative with those veggies and you will get all five stars!!
