Chef Nicolas Guardado and his wife Reyna opened Guardado's Restaurant in 2007. Guardado brought with him a wealth of experience, rising through the ranks at local-area tapas restaurant Jaleo to a seasoned head chef.
Now, he is infusing that knowledge into his own restaurant, as well as adding some popular Latin American entrees and some traditional dishes from his native Salvadorean background to Guardado's extensive menu.
We have patio now for dining in!
Was looking for a nice place, not to loud, to have a conversation with friends. This was the place. The food and serve were good and the price was reasonable. Big public parking lot right across the street. The staff was very pleasant. The menu choices were broad, and there was a williingness to accomodate and adjust for allergies. Would certainly go again.
Always enjoyable! Perhaps our favorite place in Bethesda.
Food was tasty and came very quickly. Restaurant seemed slow but it was a Sunday night. Liked our server and had a good time.
This is a very good restaurant with excellent food run by a family. The tapas are delicious, equal to any in town. My only criticism is that it is usually very noisy. On our last visit it was not completely booked and therefore the noise was moderate. My favorite tapa is the piquillo (roasted red pepper).
Great food! My wife and I felt like we were in Spain again! Had five different tapas - three off the summer menu - all were delicious. Next we’ll get paella.
This is our ‘go to’ place whenever visitors come over or we celebrate a birthday. Exceptional food, excellent service and authentic ambience. We have always had a wonderful meal and friends and family still talk about the delicious the steak and tilapia!
Going back often, developing menu favorites.
Rather keep this place neighborhood secret than broadcast to the world.
Best little gem near downtown Bethesda MD. Great service and food is delicious at a good value
As always, the food is very flavorful and reasonably priced. I suspect that most is fresh made. Enjoyed a great meal with my mother on her 87th birthday. She thanked me for being so thoughtful (6 stars).
We went to Guardado's on a neighbors recommendation. IT was excellent. A very good selection of TAPAS. We're going back SOON.
Year after year, Guardado's restaurant keeps the quality of its food and service !! We enjoy going there for the best tapas and paella of Bethesda!
Guardado is one of our favorite restaurants. The food is great, the staff is friendly and helpful, attractive furnishing, parking across the street
Fabulous food. Restaurant week menu was extensive and a great value.
My third visit to this great restaurant and the food seems to get better every time. Tasty authentic food at good prices. Wonderful service as always.
One of the best homemade Spanish and Latin American foods style at a reasonable price. Have tapas or full entree plates. Been going there for the last 8 years and love it. Highly recommended
Great food, whether it is tapas, paella, entrees or desert. It doesn’t look like much from the outside, but this will be one of our favorite (if not the favorite) Spanish/Latin place in Moco.
This was our first time at Guardado and it was excellent. We plan to return again for another meal.
As a Bethesda Restaurant Week special, this was a good deal (sangria, 3 tapas, and dessert for $25). Most of the tapas dishes were nothing special. Oddly, the cerviche dish was served well after the other five dishes had arrived and been largely eaten. Worth stopping in if you happen to be in the area and are looking for inexpensive tapas, but not a restaurant for which I'd go out of my way.
This unassuming restaurant has FABULOUS food. Try the shrimp-stuffed mushrooms. Delicious!
The Spanish cuisine is outstanding. Delicious, tasty and wonderful from tapas to main dishes. Love it!!’
Good solid Latin food with some traditional unique Spanish/Portuguese dishes. However, every dish (had 6 tapa and a main) are VERY grease heavy. Sangria was delish.
Guardado’s is one of my favorites that my nephew, who lives in Chevy Chase, did not know about and to thought it was a great find. I always try to go when I have a group of 4 to6 friends so that we can share so many delicious tapas. The prices are incredibly reasonable, and I found a few new dishes as we were ordering for six that will now be on my “favorites” list.
Excellent as always.
Always a great choice to meet friends, or for a special occasion. Many interesting food and drink choices make for an enjoyable meal time after time. You will not be disappointed,
A happy surprise discovering this small place in Bethesda and having excellent tapas for six people, so we got to taste a huge range, and we all loved them all.
Noise level is not just energetic, but almost impossible to hear table-mates with leaning closer to them and raising your voice volume.
A great family-run restaurant with attentive service and a great array of tapas and salads catering to many people's taste, and the 3 to 7PM happy hour with great $5 tapas can't be beat.
Guardado's in Bethesda is the place you want to go if you're in the mood for tapas and sangria. There is a vast assortment of tapas that include vegetarian, seafood, and meat. The croquettes and shrimp with chorizo are two of my favorites. Also, do not forget to start with a bowl of gazpacho. Algo autentico!
Estupenda cena de despedida con amigos .
Best Paella in the area. Always love coming here when I’m in the mood. This place is a great value for their tapas or Paella. Sangria isn’t bad either.
Love this place. Small, family owned restaurant that serves consistently delicious food at extremely reasonable prices.
Very good restaurant. Best pallea in the area. Strongly recommend~~
Always good food at Guardado's. Can be a little loud and it is not fancy but good food and good value.
Very nice staff, but the food was a disappointment. The gazpacho was thin and watery, and the papas bravas were covered in an aioli that didn’t taste like much of anything.
Guardado’s is my favorite restaurant because the food is always excellent and the ambience is casual and friendly. It is family owned and operated by the Guardado family. They are always kind and welcoming.
In our opinion, nothing to get excited about.
I had a gift certificate for Guardado's that was due to expire soon and suggested to my guest that we give this place a try for our business lunch meeting. Food was pretty great overall, but I was not too impressed their Lomo de puerco dish (grilled pork loin with brandy pineapple sauce). The dishes I really enjoyed were their Ensalada de espinacas con camarones (spinach salad with grilled shrimp) and Tortilla con chorizo (Spanish omelet with Spanish sausage). I could not believe how fresh their salad vegetables were and the Spanish sausage omelet was both a delicacy and nice comfort food. Food is not the most authentic Spanish/latin fusion as it is a bit more americanized.
There was nothing wrong with our server - I was simply expecting more due to the high bar that has been set by other restaurants in Bethesda and similar tapas places. I noticed that they have some good deals for their happy hour and I will be returning to take advantage of it for sure.
This restaurant is fantastic for happy hour. Delicious food, giant portions, great drinks, guitar music on Thursdays. Hidden gem.
Excellent food in a warm, cozy environment. The service was very friendly and prompt. The price was reasonable.
We have been to Guardado's a few times mainly for tapas and seafood paella. My wife was born and raised in Spain and says it is the most authentic traditional tasting paella in the area.
