Chef Nicolas Guardado and his wife Reyna opened Guardado's Restaurant in 2007. Guardado brought with him a wealth of experience, rising through the ranks at local-area tapas restaurant Jaleo to a seasoned head chef.
Now, he is infusing that knowledge into his own restaurant, as well as adding some popular Latin American entrees and some traditional dishes from his native Salvadorean background to Guardado's extensive menu.
We have patio now for dining in!
I took my six out of town discriminating foodies to Guardados. We were all delighted with the food and the friendly, helpfulness of the servers. We had a selection of tapas and they were all excellent. We also ordered a Paella and it was as good as any we've had in Spain. I will certainly go again and recommend Guardados to friends.
Great food and wonderful service. Especially enjoyed the live music.
Excellent tapas. A nice mix of Spanish and Latin American dishes. Very friendly service. A lovely little family-run, family-friendly restaurant.
Great food with way more delicious vegetarian options than I expected!
Great Spanish tapas! Worth the visit!
Great food & service. Freezing cold, though - air conditioning on full blast on a cool, cloudy, rainy day.
Outstanding food, service and ambience! And unbelievably reasonable for superior food and very nicely priced Spanish wines.
The tapas are great with the stuffed red peppers and spinach scoring very high!
Guardado has become our go-to restaurant in Bethesda.
We often go to Guardado's for happy hour and sometimes for special occasions. It is a place where we can enjoy good drinks and food and be able to talk normally; unlike a lot of other places that are so noisy that we have to shout and come out at the end of the evening with a headache.
I always enjoy Guardado’s. Very good food. Wonderful selection of delicious tapas. Dunking bread into the sauce with the camerones is my favorite. The service is friendly and efficient.
Excellent server as well as the food; however, noise level near our table made it difficult to have a conversation. I fell in love with this restaurant a few months ago, and I have been back many times since. I hope it is not as noisy when I return.
This is the best Spanish tapas restaurant in Bethesda. The food and service is great. We kept needing more bread to soak up the many delicious sauces and they kept bringing it to us. The space is intimate. You can hear your dinner companions. Just a really pleasurable evening.
We liked everything about Guardado’s and plan to go back. It has a cozy relaxing atmosphere, the servers were nice and attentive but didn’t hover. The food was delicious! We had serrano ham with manchego cheese as well as a warm spinach salad for appetizers. Both plates were great. Then the three of us shared the paella casera which was amazing. We took home the leftovers and it was just as good reheated.
Went for a birthday celebration with a larger group last Sunday. Hostess not very friendly and fairly abrupt during out meal. Server was fine, but also not very attentive. Paella was not as good as previous two times we have been there - and seafood paella had less seafood. Overall, I have to be honest and say we were disappointed in this visit. I'm sure we will give it another try and hope that this was an off night.
Fabulous tapas. Best in the area!
The paella & sangria were not good!
The food was amazing.
Nice cozy restaurant. Excellent for dates. Good food. Wine list is decent plus. The one place I'd recommend an upgrade. Not because it was bad, but because I'm just into wines. Definitely will go back.
I’ve been coming here for years and the food is always excellent. Last night the restaurant was packed and the service which is usually very good was very poor.
Good food, service was very friendly but a little slow on a busy Saturday night.
The food and service were outstanding. So glad we happened upon this gem.
This is the best tapas and paella place in the Bethesda area. Be sure to get a reservation on Friday and/or Saturday since it's usually packed. Parking is easy at the garage right across the street.
Great dining experience at a place I'd never heard of.
It’s our 26th wedding anniversary dinner and it was really nice to have dinner at Guardado’s. The food was yummy and the server is very nice. We are for sure coming back there again.
Have liked this place for a while and it did not disappoint. The four of us ordered 9 small plates although the paella is good to. All were excellent with the conquests maybe a little less so than the others. Save room for the flan. It’s great. The people who work there are friendly. .
Excellent we dined there many times before and enjoyed it
I was there on Saturday noon. Very quite and nice space. I try one tapa and the Pealla. The food is great. Definitely will go there again. The service is also kind and perfect.
I would like to give 5 stars but the place was too hot for comfort [it was cold outside] and the tables were too cramped and close together for comfort too. It is a simple family place with fantastic food, and everyone seemed to have a good time, but the lighting was too dim for me to read a book and linger over my glass of wine. So I would come back with other people and in a different mood.
Very charming...service was friendly and efficient food was excellant we had salmon and scallops dinners..tapas...mussels cheese and lamb chops...flan for dessert...recommended wine was excellant... a very nice evening...
A neighborhood gem! Great tapas prepared in short order-literally! Fun for first dates, a quick bite or a mean in a family atmosphere.
Delicious choices of paella! We had an early reservation which was great because they got very busy around 7pm. Warm neighborhood feel.
Food was excellent, but service was lacking. I think there were only 3 servers serving the whole restaurant. When asking for a refill on a beverage, had to ask twice and the 2nd time was made to feel that I was being a problem for requesting a refill. Decor is way out dated, table wasn't level and the floor underneath was on a slope. Would only go back because the food was so good.
This was not our first visit. The restaurant was packed. The service, and perhaps the kitchen, was overwhelmed. Our food came out in the wrong order, my first dish was forgotten and came last as a result. Everything was good, the restaurant has a varied menu, we had a quiet table. But the service was disappointing
Good, nice folks, a little slow. We'll go back, but not on Saturday night.
Enjoyed our previous visit here so were excited to come back. What a disaster. Tables were so close together 3 of us were banged into repeatedly by other patrons. Then the wrong food was brought to our table twice including a paella dish that took 35 minutes to prepare. They finally brought the correct paella dish however they brought it to another table. The server who I believe is the owner could not have been more apologetic at that point because the people waiting for the paella were now starving and weren't any closer to eating than when we sat down an hour earlier. She comped us on dessert and a round of drinks but all in all it was a very bad experience. And to top it off the noise level was not "energetic" it was deafening and we had to lean over our table and talk in louder than full voices in order to hear each other. It's too bad but we won't be back.
Waiter had an attitude, unfriendly, food was blah, ordered paella, which takes 35 minutes to prepare, so rather than waiting, they brought out everyone else’s food first! They were finished eating when mine arrived and the waiter had a smart response! First and last visit
Paella remains excellent. Tapas have become a little overpriced for what you get.
Everyone really enjoyed their meals, great restaurant!
Wonderful food that tasted authentic, fresh and homemade, warm atmosphere, good service and good prices. Love that the restaurant is tucked away from the hustle and bustle of other restaurants in downtown Bethesda -- a great little jewel waiting to be found. Will definitely come here again.
Very yummy, interesting Spanish/Latin food! Service was also great. The ambiance was very nice but a little chilly (literally)—every time someone opened the door, we old feel the cold air. That would not, by any stretch, keep me from going back, though!
