I'm Cuban and we've been coming to Guantanamera since it was Azucar! My parents were in town so I decided to bring them by. They had a great time, loved the food and the sever treated my mother like a queen. More than happy

My husband and I were in NYC for the Christmas scene and Theater. We choose this restaurant for an early dinner before going to the Theater. The staff was friendly and helpful and food was wonderful. Enjoyable time and looking forward to returning there on our next visit.

Very busy place! Food was wonderful. If you are going for a "date night", I would suggest asking to sit downstairs. Upstairs was very loud.

Excellent food, lovely service....
We went here before attending a concert at Lincoln Center, and would recommend it for pre-theater/concert, but also just for a great meal in an area where a reasonably-priced dinner can be hard to come by.

This is my go to restaurant with out of town friends or everyday dining. I enjoy the delicious food, live band and decor. The staff are professional and very friendly which is a plus.

Unprofessional hosts. The hostess couldn't even feign interest in our reservation and didn't even speak to us but merely pointed to where we should sit. The food was expensive which would be worth it if the space and ambiance were worth it. I'm afraid the high entree prices pay for the bands which, while musically good, make this more a cabaret than a restaurant. Do not eat here if you wish to dine.

Met some friends there. We just had a drink each and some appetizers which had taste really good. The people that work there were friendly and accommodating. I'd definitely go back again.

We were in NYC for Thanksgiving. As a firm believer in Open Table I did a search for Cuban cuisine and Midtown, read the reviews and booked a table. Good food and great service. However, the heat level of the restaurant was intense. The waiter even apologized.

I can't rate the food since we were never seated. After waiting five minutes for the hostess to get off the phone, we told her our name and that we had reservations and she went off without a word to run someone's credit card through a machine. A person I assumed to be the manager came up to the desk and asked us the same question, put his finger in the air as if to say just a minute and walked away, never to be seen again. A waiter repeated the same. Original hostess finally returned, was ready to seat us right next to the noisy bar- we asked to be seated toward the back, which had several tables empty but she said those were for people with reservations (um, WE have reservations) and then said we could sit downstairs where it is quieter. We said yes and then she said, but only if it's open, she didn't know when it would be open. That's when we realize there are about 100 restaurants in a two block are and we didn't have to put up with this garbage and left.

The restaurant met our needs perfectly-- near theater, near subway, and Cuban food. The person in our group most familiar with Cuban cuisine had only one dish in mind, Paella. He commented that this was authentic, fresh and flavorful and would order here again. Also, tried the piccadillo which was tasty as well. We found 3rd menu item, but cannot remember the name, and liked it very much. It was made up of shredded, fried beef and soooo wonderful. I drank a beautiful Sangria, since I do not like rum, but rest of the party consumed Mojitos at a special price and fell in love the coconut one. As it was a weeknight, we did not hear any live music, but the bar was lined with after work people, the workers were friendly, and all was fine. Will return again.

Food was pretty good and lots of nice dessert options. Sangria (white) was tasty. The waiters were nice but we felt rushed. Also, my note when I made the reservation to wish someone at our table a happy Birthday didn’t get passed on to the waiter so it never happened. There are just two restrooms and lines for both which gave a dinner occasion a clubby feel at 7 o’clock. All in all, I would still go back again for the food and drink but their customer service skills need a bit more polishing.

Food was just ok. Nothing special. Hostess was not welcoming at all. She just ushered us in without so much as a smile which already set the mood for our experience there. The waiter was friendly and attentive. Food came out fast which was also good. Did not like the ambience at all, but there was no live band (even though this was Saturday night dinner) so maybe it's more fun when they have one. It was just a lot of tables crammed in a poorly lit space, and would have been the sort of place where I would just go for the food had the food been that good which it's not.

I returned for a second time because I enjoy the atmosphere and the food and I would go back again. The service is fast, a bit hectic and we had to ask for more water. It was a Saturday night and it was VERY BUSY and very noisy. That added to the festive environment if you like that. My friend enjoyed her shrimp and rice but was disappointed that her entrée did not automatically come with plantains as a side. My dish, a generous seafood "casserole" did come with four plantains, plus a generous portion of rice. I recommend Guantanamera for a lively meal. Make a reservation for regular dinner time. Live music starts at 9 PM

This a a great place for a “Cuban” experience. The food is great but the live music puts the night over the top!! It is so much fun. If you don’t get up and dance between the tables I’m pronouncing you dead.

My wife and I arrived to the restaurant to celebrate her birthday and the end of our visit to New York.

We received recommendations for many restaurants in NYC but once I heard about this restaurant I chose it because of my love for Cuban music since the days of BUENA VISTA SOCIAL CLUB.
Indeed, the live music was wonderful!

In summary: The music, food, drinking, service and the good atmosphere have made our experience at "Guantanamera" to great!

Food was good and authentic although more expensive than other Cuban restaurants we have been to in the area. Drinks were expensive at $13 for the Caipirinia and especially the Rum and Coke. Rum and Coke at $13 is crazy really. There was a group of 8 at a table near us that were especially loud and obnoxious. Maybe our review would be better if they were not there. Service was good. My wife had the Picadillo a La Habanera for $22 and I had the Filetillo Salteado and more words after that for $26.50. We probably won't go back here as we can find Cuban food better at other places near by.
