Grünauer is a classic Viennese style restaurant with Central European influences of German, Hugarian, and international specialties. Peter Grünauer, executive chef, his son Nicholas, and daughter Elisabeth opened Grünauer in May of 2010. Grünauer Ratings and Reviews
This was our third visit in just over a year. Each time we have been warmly greeted, seated promptly and immediately engaged by wait staff. The location is unusual in that it provides a great view of the many trains that visit Union Station, which is just across the way. The menu is refreshing in its many offerings and yet traditional entrees are available. Wait staff is quite knowledgable. The beautiful red rose was a nice suprise (Valentine's Day). We will certainly continue to return for our extra special dates.
This was our first trip to Grünauer, and we thoroughly enjoyed it! Our group included a couple of restaurant managers, but no one was familiar with the Austrian cuisine menu. We ordered a wide variety of items, and shared around the table. Every entree and side dish was delicious. We were there on a quiet Sunday evening in the winter, so we did not get to experience the Biergarten. We will definitely be going back.
My favorite restaurant in Kansas City. Food and service are always excellent with the added bonus of the ambiance of being in the Freight House. They also have a very good selection of German and Austrian beers. Their Paprikahuhn is my wife's any my favorite dish there!!
We had a wonderful dinner for four. Everything from our booth seating to service to the food was exceptionally good. We had the schnitzel both plain and stuffed with spinach, the steak and the beef in consommé along with salads to start and a hazelnut torte and flourless chocolate cake to finish. Everything including the veg garnish was delicious. Service was very attentive but relaxed and the wines and beers complemented the food. We had a wonderful evening and look forward to returning.
We should get to Grunauer more often - we always enjoy it. Goulash was the soup of the day, and it was delicious - warm, meaty and spicy on a cold winter's night. We split the ham-stuffed Weinerschnitzel with a side of cheesy spatzel, again delicious. The place was busy but not crowded, lively but not loud. Our server was knowledgeable and attentive. Good, good, good!
My recent visit to Grünauer was an excellent experience, as always! I have been here a few times and every time the staff is welcoming, knowledgeable and more than willing to help! This visit was just my dad and myself, and when it comes to the flavor and quality of the food we have yet to be disappointed. Keep up the good work Grünauer!
The ambiance was the highlight of our evening here in February. The kasekrainer with sauerkraut was great, as was the beer and wine selection (Hungarian wine is super hard to find in the US). Having just returned from Hungary and Vienna, I was excited about my paprika chicken. While the paprika sauce was great, the chicken was charbroiled and was sent back. The kitchen offered to make another, but we didn't have time at that point. Staff took it off the check and handled it well. My husband had the chef special schnitzel, which was good and as expected.
We had wait for a table to open up. We were there earlier than our reservation time. So was not an issue. We ordered appetizers while waiting in the bar area. Once past our reservation time they were very apologetic. When our table was ready they had our appetizers waiting at our table and also covered the cost of both appetizers. Felt this was a very nice gesture. Also, the food and atmosphere were phenomenal. I would love to visit again in the future.
It was the best meal we have had in KC so far. We checked in 20 minutes early and sat at the bar to wait. The bartenders were awesome and helpful in helping us make choice on wine selection and a good beer of which they had many. Once seated(on time)we had a great waiter who was also helpful and had great suggestions on what is good on the menu. I had the goulash, with mushrooms, paprika and potato dumpling and my wife had snitzel stuffed with spinach n cheese and mashed potatoes on side. Wow! All great and delicious, couldn't have asked for a better meal! Crepe for desert to top it off. We will be back again sooner than later!
I loved this restaurant? The ghoulash was excellent! I loved the atmosphere as well. We had a dessert that was a little "off." It looked like bread with some sweet stuff on it. I really don't know what it was called, but it was dry and I wouldn't recommend getting it. But, overall, loved the location, ambiance and food!
This is one of our favorite restaurants in Kansas City. The food is always exceptional. Service is always good. They have enough choices on the menu for anyone. Recently at there for Restaurant Week and had their RW offering, and was delicious. I highly recommend them to everyone.
