Grunauer is one of the most beautiful restaurant spaces in Kansas City and the food (authentic Austrian) is amazing. Add in the thoughtful and attentive service and this place is one not to be missed.

As per usual, pretty darn good! The bartender whipped up a delicious mocktail! My only slight upset is that they are so pricey. Four rolls of bread for $10 is a little nuts, but of course I’ll pay it because the menu is delectable.

We all ordered the Wiener Schnitzel so I can't say much about other dishes but the Schnitzel was cooked perfectly and I really loved the cucumber salad. Portion size was perfect for lunch. Service was excellent and I like the rustic ambiance. Would have loved a hot potato salad with it.

The food as expected was very good. For a Friday night the noise level was also as expected however a crying baby added a chorus, cute but….. the one area of disappointment was the service. It was inattentive with no interaction on choices or recommendations. All in all, we will be back.

We’ve been to Grunauer often for good reason. We love the open space which to us, somehow provides both a traditional European, yet contemporary vibe. We started with a round of great cocktails, both featured and traditional. The service was, as usual, attentive, friendly and fun. Three of the four of us opted for the Friday, Schulterscherzel (beef) special which was hearty and delicious while the Gebeizter Lachs (salmon) received a great review from our fourth. The food is unique, authentic and delicious. Nick suggested a perfect Austrian Red to accompany our meals and we enjoyed the strudel and fruit liqueurs afterward. We really enjoyed our fun, authentic and (always a little) educational evening!

Our server, Kenneth, was delightful! Incredibly efficient, polite, and knowledgeable. We had a great experience and loved everything we ate. We were there with 4 people total and all shared bites of everything and there wasn't a single thing we were disappointed in. Excellent, 10/10, would definitely make a point to come back!

The service and ambiance were excellent. The cuisine offers an opportunity to sample the many ways in which German peoples, and Austrians in particular, have been able to take very basic fair such as potatoes and cabbage and create fine dinning opportunities. This restaurant is a great choice for a date night and/or a change of pace in a Kansas City dinning experience. The portions are large and the appetizers are good so you might want to get an appetizer and then split an entrée as an alternative to two entrees.

We went last night for our 20th anniversary and were not quite sure what to expect. The service was phenomenal with the waiter, (Tyler I think), making excellent beer and entree suggestions. My husband is allergic to pork but they were happy to substitute for him and recommend things that he could safely eat. We were blown away by the flavors and the whole atmosphere was amazing. Definitely will return for the Christmas season because we heard that they are beautifully decorated for the season.

We have been going to Grunauer for several years now and they always hit the mark. Our server this last visit, Kat, was a rockstar. She was so attentive and took amazing care of us. The food came out quick, hot and was delicious as always. We finished with two different strudels for dessert. My only complaint is they got rid of the Varmmel (pork belly) appetizer, it was our favorite! We will definitely be going back and highly recommend it to anyone.

We decided to give this German/Austrian restaurant a shot. Our server was delightful. I would only add that it appeared she was not as familiar with the menu items tastes as we would have liked. While the appetizer, a ham and fried cabbage, was different and good, the price point was steep for what was received. We both enjoyed the entrees snitzle and goulash. Took me a moment to appreciate the taste of the goulash, but in the end, it was a very good product. We left full, and satisfied with the experience. However, not sure if we would return.

Another outstanding night at Grunauer! The bar staff is incredibly knowledgeable about the beers and the history for each one. They’re extremely friendly and willing to answer any questions about some great beers! Then the food comes and it’s just delicious! We had the Friday special and Hungarian style goulash. It was absolutely amazing! Words can’t describe how good it tastes. Then our server Anthony, who was a great one and a lot of fun, recommended we go with the bread pudding instead of my usual apple strudel for dessert. I hate him now because I have 2 favorite desserts! The people and food at Grunauer keep us coming back! Go try it and I’m sure you’ll be coming back multiple times. The owners, who are super cool, have a great place and worthy of a visit!

3 stars is defined as “good”, and it was - overall - a good experience. No socks were knocked off, but there were no glaring deficiencies. The service was a bit … casual … as was the available knowledge of wine-food pairings, but the food was good, the prices probably fair (although $2.50 for a 2 inch roll seems a bit steep in comparison to other restaurants and the “free” birthday strudel did balance out the charge for a small scoop of ice cream) and the ambiance/noise level such that conversations were possible without shouting. We’ve been there before and we will be back … because it WAS - overall - a good experience.
