Consistent food that is truly authentic Austrian. Reservation system works well and quick service.
Love everything about this restaurant. Great cocktails and wine. Menu variety, well prepared. The best coffee that comes with the most amazing butter cookies ever. Note to Grunauer: You can sell these cookies by the box. They're irresistible.
Amazing food. Overall just a wonderful environment.
Always a consistent meal. Dishes are excellent and remind me of my grandmothers preparations. We ate outside and patio is great choice. I love the view of union station and the passing trains. Do not forget the apple strudel
We went for a birthday lunch and it was amazing. The waiter was excellent. He talked and explain the menu to us. We ordered 2 appetizers that were out of this world. The fried mushrooms and Krautstrudel just amazing. When we got on lunch meals we were blown away by how good they were. The birthday person got to pick a desert for her birthday. Great time, will definitely have to come back.
Absolutely one of our favorite places in the city to eat! The food is always amazing- something for everyone !!
We enjoyed an excellent dinner with wine before going to the symphony. The server was very attentive and the food was both ample and remarkable. My beef and vegetable dish served with three sauces was excellent. The meat was tender and flavorful. Fun dinner!
Did not get any service for over 20 minutes after seated upstairs. When we called a staff member over, we got a curt response “they’re on their way”. The waitress came over about 5-7 minutes later and apologized, saying she wasn’t told she had our table. Her service after that was good. But the initial gentleman’s response was rude as if he was annoyed at us for asking (he appeared to be a bartender) and set a bad tone for the evening.
Food is always top-notch. The special of the day was a stuffed schnitzel - delicious! Service excellent. Always love eating here.
Lunch was great food at a fair price. We were celebrating my birthday and they gave me a lovely dessert. Staff was friendly; service was exceptional.
We were here for a special birthday celebration. The service, drinks, appetizer, main course and complimentary dessert were all superb. Definitely will return.
Fabulous food, great waitress with a great smile 😃 Excellent beer and cocktails
Dinner with Friends. Drinking good German Beer and eating traditional German food. What could be better? I have the Altwiener Tafelspitz. WOW! It was beefy and fabulous! Ended with their Carmel cover donuts and Apple Stoodle. Plenty to share. Another WOW. Great time, Great Food and Great Service. Highly recommended!
nice enjoyable meal, good service and food. good first time experience
All food was good, some was very good. To be a great restaurant all the food must be very good. It was not.
We tried some other dishes beside the schnitzel, all were delicious. I highly recommend the lachs or gulash as an appetizer. Finish your dinner with a Julius Meinl espresso and an apfel strudel.
Best restaurant I have ever been to. Always visit every time I'm in KC.
Great food, wonderful evening.
Our waitress Lilli was excellent. One dish the Pork shoulder and Butt were a little dry. Need a sauce or cooked less or done with a veggie to maintain moisture. Tasty, just dry.
Always a great meal. I visit every time in KC. The food is consistently delicious. They have a great assortment of beer and wine.
The food was a delight on your taste buds. It was a delicate mixture of tasty Austrian/German flavors. The server was extremely knowledgeable about dishes and great at guiding you through a tour of the menu from what you may like to try for a main to what beer or wine might awaken a new favorite in you. Service was fast and the atmosphere was relaxing and peaceful. Definitely worth booking and trying a tour of Austrian/German cuisine.
The food was awesome! Having lived in Germany for 12 years, the cuisine was superb! My wife and I had a house salad, a cream of mushroom soup, she had a plain schnitzel while I had beef medallions covered in a wine sauce - very delicious. Background music was soft jazz, maybe not traditional German/Austrian, but not displeasing. Service was good, but server could have a little more knowledge of German/Austrian food and beverage culture.
We had a blast! Food, wine, selection, and staff were impeccable
Always try to eat here when we are in town. A favorite place for food and drink .
This is one of our favorite restaurants. Wonderful food in a relaxed setting. The Saurbratten is not always on the menu but if it is it is a must. My husband enjoyed the sausages on our last visit and I had the Hungarian Gulasch. The spatzel and red cabbage is also very good. Great place for locals and visitors.
Most definitely, the restaurant itself is beautiful and in a great location. You are always greeted as soon as you walk in the door, it is best to have reservations on a Friday or Saturday night but you are always greeted and sat as quick as possible. Once seated the service is great the servers take the time to explain the venue and answer any questions that you have concerning the food as well as the beer Wine and Liquor selection which they have an excellent imported and bottled beer selection. Once the food arrives it is quick hot and always well-prepared. Size portions could be a little bigger, but I am a larger male and enjoy that style of food. As you are enjoying your dinner the service staff is always on top of it refilling glasses beer taking away plates and making sure that your dining experience is flawless. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to friends and family and those on first or second dates. Like I stated earlier the restaurant itself is beautiful staff is courteous fast the food is excellently prepared it is an overall great experience
We have been Grunauer fans since it opened when we moved back from Vienna AT. The food is fantastic and authentic Austrian cuisine. While we have been away for a couple years, a great restaurant has gotten better, with new items on the menu and several of our established favorites. Craft cocktails were excellent and our table of 4 was provided with great service. Tafelspitz was outstanding and is better than even Plachuta in Vienna.. Thanks for a great evening.
Good food. The noise level is quite high, but it is an energetic setting. The service was excellent. Overall a bit pricey
A very special Saturday night with out of towners. One of which was a German and so we thought he would like Grunauer as we do; who live here. The food was wonderful! It was one of my top 5 ever! I had the swordfish and it was too die for. Our German friend had the beet goolash? (can't spell) and he loved it. We were all very happy and would come back for sure!
Best jager schnitzel we have all enjoyed since Germany!
Nothing stood out it was just generally a very good experience. Oh! Except the speciality gin and tonic was VERY good
We loved the authenticity of this restaurant. Our waitress was so well versed with the menu as well, which was really helpful. Our entrees were all wonderful. The chocolate cake is very dry, but apparently that's how they like it in Germany/Austria.
We celebrated a family birthday. There was a birthday card awaiting us at the table. It was our first time dining here. The waitress answered all of our questions knowledgeably. All the food was great especially the fried Gouda appetizer and the portions were bigger than expected
We had great service and the food was exceptional. A great evening out following a concert at the Folly.
A friend and I dined at Grunauer after the opera. I ordered the swordfish which was nicely marinated and served on a bed of creamy spinach spaetzle and mushrooms with grilled baby carrots. It was very tasty and a big enough portion that I took some home for the next day. Topped it off with a lovely latte. Our server was very attentive.
So many delicious choices! It would serve you well to look at the menu in advance.
Amazing gulasch and ambiance one of my favorite restaurants in the city.
This was our second visit, drove from Nebraska planning to eat supper here. From the appetizer to dessert it was fabulous! I had the calves liver and was in heaven. It has wonderful German food choices with homemade kraut, sausages, and dumplings. Great date place!
Always great and unique food. Authentic Austrian restaurants are not easy to find. Kansas City is lucky to have Grunauer.
Our meal was delicious and expertly prepared. Service was a splendid team effort. I believe this is the best "hidden gem" restaurant in KCMO.
