Went to supper at Grunauer on a Sunday. Luckily we had reservations as the place was packed; impressive for a Sunday evening. We were promptly seated and we ordered off their impressive beer list. The menu was eclectic and all the food we saw being served looked delicious. Our appetizers were quickly delivered; the Wammerl melted in my mouth, and the Jausenbrettl was huge! Our entrees were delivered quickly also, but maybe a bit too quickly. Two of three entrees were barely lukewarm. To the credit of the chef, the food tasted good, but was not hot. Our waitress, Brie, immediately offered to take the food back and have new plates made, but the food tasted good enough to continue. Management provided a free dessert and took one of our appetizers off of the bill. Fair enough. Overall, the experience went well enough we plan to return next weekend. Brie highly recommend reservations for Friday and Saturdays; we'll be going back!
Always great! My wife and I come here every year for Valentine’s Day. Delicious food, great service.
Amazing vegetarian meal!
Wonderful evening. Wonderful service and food. Would suggest to everyone!
Pricey for four people but the experience was great. Only thing holding us back from making it a regular on our restaurant trips is the price. Ambience and service was fantastic and everyone enjoyed the appetizer and entrees.
We love Grunauer. We are never disappointed. They seated us a little ahead of our reservation, as requested. My only negative would be that our table was right next to the doorway so I felt like I was in the way of those trying to use the door, and was just about "run over" by customers as I was getting up out of my chair to leave. Still, great food, great ambiance, great service.
Found this gem of a restaurant in KC on a very snowy Friday night. The food was excellent, well cooked and flavorful and the service was excellent. The waiter was very knowledgeable about the food selections and the history of Austrian/Hungarian food. Great place to go for something different in KC.
Family time before time apart.
Great German beer menu paired with some German culinary favorites. It is a nice change pace restaurant.
Our waiter was absolutely fantastic! I believe his name was Matthew.
Wonderful food. It is not inexpensive, but in general felt the food was worth it. excellent beer selection. Nice service.
Once again we are very pleased we celebrated our Valentine's at Grunauer. After being warmly greeted, we seated immediately and attended by wait staff within minutes. Kayla's knowledge of the beverage and dinner menus was impressive. We shared a large plate of salad selections and ordered classic main courses. Without being intrusive, she made sure we had everything needed to make this special event memorable. Yes, we will return and yes, we will encourage friends and family to eat at Grunauer soon.
This is a wonderful place. First time and we will be going back again. Have told friends to check it out. Thank you!
This is a very good restaurant. My schnitzel sandwich was outstanding. My wife’s blackened fish sandwich was very good, although it was more like a grilled fish sandwich—not very blackened. The ingredients were all fresh and well prepared.
Always enjoy this unique dining experience!
Quiet 5ish dinner on Sunday before going to theatre. Outstanding service and food.
Great to be able to have a conversation without raised voices! Thank you.
Excellent birthday dinner. Food, service, and ambiance were very well enjoyed.
Food was wonderful and we can’t wait to go back.
The food was just so so. Not worth the price. We won’t be back.
Waitress was very nice and very helpful. There was some confusion on my order though however. I ask her about three different dishes and she mentioned that two of them were her favorite. And I told her I would go with a certain dish but she brought me out her other favorite. We had two different desserts including the desert of the day. Both of them were very pretty and a aesthetically pleasing on the plate. My favorite thing was the warm sauerkraut and I don’t even like sauerkraut :-) the mashed potatoes were pretty good. The food was good, and I’m glad I went because I’ve never tried Austrian food. Not sure if I would go back though
Fantastic dining experience! The food was amazing and the wait staff was very knowledge and made great recommendations on food and drink.
Excellent service. Exceptional food quality and quantity.
Excellent food, great staff and service, little pricey. Would go there again.
We loved the food and the atmosphere. The service was great as well.
I would write a glowing review, because it is a fantastic experience that reminded me very much of an biergarten in Munich, with amazing food and drink, but if I did that, I might not get a table next time, and I want to be sure I can get in again.
Reserved a table for 3 at 7:30pm on a Saturday for son's birthday. Schnitzel and spätzle were the birthday expectation and Grünauer delivered. Big enough portions to take home for afterwards and tasty enough for a 9 year old's and a 17 year old's palette. Wait staff was excellent and atmosphere was lively.
This is one of the MOST truly authentic places to eat in Kansas City that continues to surprise in a great way time over time. Every experience has been exceptional and it continues to get better with time!
Great atmosphere and great food! We will be back, for sure.
A must try for authentic Austrian dishes. We loved the Käse Spätzle, Kalbwurst and cabbage.
If you like German/Austrian food in a awesome setting this is your place.
Outstanding experience! The food, service, ambience, and decor were all exquisite. Started with the beet salad followed by the schnitzel on special that night, which was stuffed with mushrooms and swiss. It was divine! It was paired perfectly with the Reisling blend wine. I finished my meal with the flourless chocolate cake with real whipped cream and hazelnuts. My taste buds where delightfully overwhelmed. I will definitely return with all my friends for any occasion!! This restaurant is now in my top 5 in KC!
Beautiful, warm space. Great parking. Service was excellent. Server recommendations were helpful. Food was delicious.
Excellent service, waiter was very attentive and knowledgeable about food and wine suggestions. The food was great too.
Great evening. Not super familiar with the cuisine, but dishes were varied with some better than others. The traditional wiener schnitzel was good. I think the dish is meant to be pretty simple. The gulasch was interesting with unique flavors. Hearty and rich. The winner, though, was definitely the beet spaetzle dish with veggies. Layered and complex with a nutty sweetness, it would be my dish of choice upon returning. Beer and wine lists are terrific and well-suited to the food served. Ambience and service are both excellent. Our server was attentive, pleasant, and knowledgeable. Hosts were welcoming and patient. The dining room is serving serious Austrian Lodge vibe and I love it. Overall a fun dinner with friends.
Everything was amazing. My husband ordered the pork chop and it was juicy and flavorful. We also ordered a side of spaetzle which was prepared authentically and perfectly seasoned. I ordered the schnitzel and it is the best one I have had outside of Austria. Perfection. The potato salad is delicious and refreshing. The beer list is superb and there are also incredible wine choices.
I absolutely adore this place. The food is amazing and very well priced for the quality. It has a relaxed environment that makes it really comfortable.
Food was fantastic, haven’t had that delicious of a snitzel since I was actually in Austria! Everything was delicious and the service was spectacular. Can’t wait to go back.
Fantastic dishes - presentation and flavor! Great selection!
