We chose Grow40 for a rare date night (aka we are tired, busy parents) and we were very happy with our choice. It's always a gamble when you don't get to go out that often! The food was not only delicious but innovative in taste combination. But a restaurant is nothing without its service and here they did well. They are friendly, professional and prompt. Perfect night out!

They are stepping up the culinary ambition, with some hits and misses, but service remains erratic and eccentric, things happen in strange orders and funny ways.

Excellent food and amazing value for money - had four courses, beer, wine and whiskey for £50 a head including service! Service was excellent despite being a busy Friday night - highly recommended, I am sure we will be back. Even my wife enjoyed it and she is very hard to please when it comes to food! We’ve paid a lot more for meals elsewhere and left disappointed.

Nice atmosphere for dinner and also for drinks upstairs. Good wine quality and dishes, both meat and fish. Nice service and incredible desserts.

Limited choice which usually this means high quality, not here. We ordered steak and chips. I like rare my partner well done there was no real difference in the steaks offered. The “home made” chips were indifferent they would have better serving oven chips. Staff all over the place, usually at high speed, without any apparent purpose. Perhaps it was a bad night but a real disappointment

My husband and I were looking for somewhere relaxed but special for my birthday dinner. We don't get to go out much because of the kids so this needed to be good. And Grow40 was perfect! service was incredible. Cocktails were deeeelicious. Dinner was lush too. I'd describe it as extremely well cooked simple food. No fush, just great ingredients with great taster. I had scallops with pea puree and the puree was incredible! Followed by sea bass with broccoli and an olive/tomato chunky salsa type thing. Also lush. Def recommend. It was the perfect start to our evening before strolling through town for a few after dinner drinks.

We had a fantastic evening at Grow 40, celebrating 20 years of friendship with a large group. We were slightly rowdy & very demanding, but the team took it all in their stride & ensured we had a fabulous evening with great food, excellent wine & all finished off with some delicious, not strictly necessary, espresso martinis. I'd highly recommend Grow 40 & would be delighted to go back - if they'd have us .....

Nice bistro atmosphere that enjoyed before for good excited try for dinner. Massive disappointment because of low of food. Mussels for starter - handful of them out of shell floating in tomato sauce. Fish - hard lump from frozen. Risotto - part cooked rice with exact taste of hoops. Did any member of staff actually taste the food? I they or care. Staff did the the standard questions about how the was. People who really care see with their eyes and ask. Customer who want to not spoil their evening further just quietly pay, leave and write reviews.

It was just one of those occasions when everything seems to go wrong. The source of the problem was that none of the staff had much grasp of English, and I think it was everyone's first day at the same time. After a while you felt like you were in some kind of comedy sketch. Over the first 15 minutes I ordered our drinks 3 times to 3 different people and eventually got them. I ordered fish with cauliflower cheese instead of chips. 5 minutes later another member of staff comes to the table and says fish only comes with chips. I managed to negotiate having fish without chips and a side of cauliflower cheese. My fish came on a wooden board with a side of cauliflower cheese in a dish, so I asked for a plate - A big white round thing that you eat off - which I eventually got. The fish was not fresh but probably Tesco's own brand, deep fried. I'm sure lots of people have had great times here, unfortunately, not me.
