We went to Grove Saturday night. It was a first date. We sat at the bar until our reservation was ready. The atmosphere was unique, warm and invited conversation.
Our meals were amazing, the butterscotch pudding was life changing, our server was fun and we were the last ones out of the restaurant. :)
We made a reservation weeks in advance. When we arrived our table wasn't ready...and wasn't ready...and wasn't ready. Finally, after nearly an hour (and several conversations with the manager), we were seated. Certainly it wasn't the staff's fault that the previous diners lingered, but still, it was a long wait. Immedialy upon being seated the manager produced lovely (complimentary) appetizers and a bottle of wine, along with apologies.
Excellent service recovery. A+. And the food,as always: creative, delicious, reasonable portions. In my opinion, the best restaurant in Grand Rapids. And they know what they're doing.
Great selection of creative and tasty food for all preferences. Our group included vegan and vegetarian. We sampled several dishes and one who ordered lamb was also very pleased. The staff was very helpful and friendly. Popular place so sometime after we finished dessert they had another reservation coming in for our table and the table next to us. They were happy to have us stay if we would relocate and we did. Highly recommend.
Very nice. The Grove provided us with a wonderful celebration card and wine for toasting.
Always great food!
Fantastic food and amazing service. We had the Mushroom Tart and Perogies for starters and they were incredible, creative but very approachable. My wife had Cacaio a pepe the Roman classic and I had the Duck Leg with squash mole. 5/5
Once again the food at the Grove did not disappoint!
I had the salmon Crudo to start and my husband had the beef tartare. Both of them were delectable!
I then had the squash gnocchi with apples and kale.. it was amazing!
My husband had the quail and said it was very good.
The only negative was a Christmas party going on that got louder and louder. It’s a small restaurant, so that was not so nice.
The Taste of Grove being removed and no wine pairings is a huge loss to this restaurant. Don't think I will be back again.
Best server ever!
Great food! Glad we drive two hours for dinner!
This place was absolutely amazing. The staff was incredibly polite and on top of things, and our food was phenomenal.
Great food and service, will definitely be back. Very creative menu. Order lots of items and share!
We eat Grove regularly and often choose it for Birthdays, anniversaries etc. We ate there this week for my husbands 55th - It was fantastic as always - However - usually when it is an occasion we have received a dessert or something to top off the celebration. Maybe you have stopped doing this.
We love to sit in the bar and always find the staff friendly and knowledgeable!
Service was incredible. Our waiter was so knowledgeable and friendly.
So glad we tried this place! We will definitely be back again. Danny was an outstanding server. Happy Hour food and drinks were a fun way to start the evening.
Brussel sprouts were delicious!
Chose Grove based on the recommendations. It did not disappoint. Excellent service throughout the meal and the food was delicious. Layers of flavor - interesting - well prepared. Five stars for sure!
We dined with 3 couples and had an outstanding experience. Creative cocktails, fantastic service and the best food in town that met all our needs including amazing vegan options. Our server Julie was attentive, knowledgeable and efficient and made our fabulous experience even more wonderful. Simply the best dining experience in town.
It was fantastic! Great food, excellent service and wonderful ambiance!
Changed the menu from the 3 course tasting menu which we thought had far more interesting combinations & choices, my food had a tepid temperature which was disappointing, don’t think Grove will be at the top of our list for dining in the future.
Nice date night grazing our way thru small plates. Gyoza were delish as was the toast with quince/ricotta/etc (cant remember name?). Steak tartare fell a little short for us...was bland and overly chilled (which isn’t good for fatty meat) and just seemed pre-made. However, as always, the butterscotch pudding never disappoints!!
If you’re in Grand Rapids, go to Grove. This is a top notch meal for incredible value. Cocktails were creative and delicious. Entrees were beautiful and even more delicious. Service was attentive and friendly. We told our waitress to bring out the best plates and she did fantastic. Couldn’t recommend this place more highly.
Excellent option for thoughtful cuisine, impeccable service, and celebrating special occasions. They sent a sparkling wine toast to our table for our anniversary. I highly recommend the autumn root vegetable bisque and the seafood linguine. Their menu changes daily though, you can call after 5 for updated items. For dessert, the butterscotch pudding with shortbread was delightful.
Our waiter was very fun! He’s a total foodie and loves his job.
We chose The Grove for my wife's birthday and we were not disappointed. Our server, Nick, was knowledgeable and he never made us feel rushed. His descriptions of drinks and food were very helpful. The food was always served hot and fresh, properly seasoned and attractively plated. Everything from the cocktails to the desserts was excellent. We highly recommend The Grove!
Always fabulous food, unique menu, great service, great wines.
Our server seemed preoccupied with a larger table so our service suffered. My girlfriend and I usually ask for recommendations, and our servers recommendations (if he had one) and pairings were brief, not detailed, and not supported. So over all the server did tend to us properly, but did not share much knowledge on the menu, and always seemed in a hurry.
My girlfriend enjoyed her dish. I ordered the Japanese pancake with pork belly. I was pleased with the meal and the tenderness of the pork, all except for the sauce. There were two sauces covering the dish and the tomato based barbeque-ey sauce just took the meal over. If I ordered it again, I would probably ask for light sauce or sauce on the side.
The restaurant gave us a free desert for her birthday, while it wasn't our favorite dessert, it was the thought that counted.
we will be back, as they have an interesting menu. Hoping for better service next time, and excited to try some new meals!
Memorable dining experience. Nathan the waiter could not have been more attentive and responsive - helped navigate picky wine drinkers and carefully reviewed the menu with a gluten free guest. Working backwards: everyone must order their own butterscotch pudding - you'll be glad you did. Pate was fabulous, rib-eye was a little too gourmet for our "basic" eaters but appreciated by the foodies, got raves on the beef tartar. Disappointed in the pork belly pancake - imagined a nice thin pancake wrap but it was about 1/2" thick, cakey.
It was good, but not great. Portion size was disappointing. Cauliflower Bisque was amazing, though!
Had a great meal and drinks as always. Staff is always friendly and helpful.
Everything was exceptional, including service from Erin. Only down side was the almost overwhelming cologne smell from the next table. I wish your staff could slip these folks a discreet card explaining how these artificial aromas can impact the dining experience. And I also wish I was courageous enough to tell him myself. Rude!
There was a small child in the table next to us with an iPad on full blast to the point where we could barely hear our own conversation. Was very surprised - generally Grove is a great experience, we felt like the noise was way too loud for what we’ve come to expect. Per usual, the food and service were excellent.
What a find! This neighborhood treasure was worth the Uber drive from downtown hotel! Creative food paring, wonderful wine selection!
Good choice for special dinner. Like the very different menu choices.
The grove used to be my favorite restaurant in Grand Rapids. We haven’t been in a while and was looking forward to it even though we had heard rumors that it’s not as good as it use to be. I was disappointed but didn’t let my husband know as it was our 34th anniversary celebration and he chose to go there.
First time here. We’ll be back! Outstanding food with a few vegan options. Before 6 you can get reduced drinks and some tapas as part of happy hour.
The ambiance is what first draws me to Grove. I love the smaller setting; bar, outdoor option, or cozy dining room. One of my favorite places for a wonderful local food and drink pairing. The food is always beautifully prepared and flavorful. The service is top-notch and the staff is very knowledgeable of the menu.
Special occasion meal. Service was great food portions were not the best but that's because the dishes were incredible. 10/10 will absolutely return.
