This was my first time at Grotto and it blew me away. The staff was extremely nice and sat us right away even though our reservation was an hour later. Then the best part of the experience was when the food started coming out. From the garlic soup (Zuppa) to the Bolognese to the melted chocolate cake. Every dish was extremely the best I had ever had. I've eaten at a lot of Italian restaurants, Teatro, Tavolo, Sportello to name a few and with Teatro having a slightly better Bolognese in my opinion, the food at Grotto was hands down the best I've ever had.

Food was amazing as usual. Service was slow at best. Nobody was out in the restaurant to greet us and we had to look out back to be seated.

Another great experience at Grotto. It’s become a favorite of mine in Boston for a great Italian meal outside of the north end.

No napkin, chicken parm was nice to look at but chicken over cooked/dry the waiter put our doggie bag on the floor, even though we had room on the table. he seemed a bit harried, not able to multi task I've been going for years as special occasion spot for myself and daughter. We will no longer be a customer.

I took my partner here for his birthday. I remembered us walking by it a few months ago and loved the atmosphere. It was the perfect choice! The atmosphere was intimate and warm (perhaps a little too dark, though) and the room was lit with candles. For what you get, the price is phenomenal. We each did the three course deal for $36-$42 and got a 1/2 bottle of wine. We were very pleased with the price and the food was delicious! I highly recommend the monkfish dish. Overall, it was a great experience, and we even talked over dinner about how we'd love to make it a spot we always come back to for special occasions.

Amazing nook in Beacon Hill, with a sultry ambience, top-notch service, and delectable food. My date and I had a reservation for 5:45 pm on Easter Sunday and were seated to the side in what seemed a dark and secluded alcove with a beautiful oil painting next to us. It was a near magical experience. We highly recommend the Carozza, Fonduta, and the Budino.

Very nice restaurant located in the Beacon Hill neighborhood. Menu has a wide range of options, from pasta, seafood to a very nice tendeloin. I would definitely recommend this restaurant.

Never been and didn't think I was going to walk out just overly pleased by the atmosphere, the service and most of all the food. And no wonder, we went not knowing they are the sister restaurant to the Markiave which is one of our favorite restaurants in Boston. Definitely a must go to! Skip the North End and go to Grotto. That's at least what I'll be saying to everyone from now on.

One of the best dinners me and my fiancé have had. She said it reminded her of being in Italy. We started with the Zafferano and Cavatelle. The flavors were just amazing. Next we had the fra diavolo and the gnocchi. We finished up the night with cioccolate and the budino. Everything was amazing with flavors that you won’t get at a regular Italian restaurant and the fresh homemade pasta can not be beat. If I was you I would check Grotto out the next you want some of the best Italian food in Boston.

Cozy setting, although the dining room is small there was no feeling of intrusiveness from the other diners.
Pastas are home made and there is a good selection of wines and handcrafted cocktails.
Although we were assigned a server whoever was available made sure all our needs were met.

I went with a friend for dine-out Boston. We both had the mussels for the first course (which we both found to be not as fresh as advertised by some reviews on Yelp...). I had short rib with gnocchi for my main (it was ok, not the best, I liked the dish I had at Posto in Somerville better), and my friend enjoyed the scallops. My friend had tiramisu for desert (portion was a little small) and I had the banana bread pudding which was excellent! Overall it was alright, but I was not stunned by the food. It was a good experience but I'm not itching to go back, especially since the price tag is normally higher.

Hi:
We were here on a Sunday evening to celebrate a birthday and we thought this place was so charming, nice ambiance and great food! While the servers were very attentive, it was almost too much and we felt rushed! My husband had his fork in his mouth and they were asking if he was finished, so I was a little disappointed that we couldn't have any time alone with the constant hovering!
I would like to give it another try because I loved the atmosphere and all three courses were excellent, most notably the crab ravioli appetizer and the scallop 'ravioli' dinner!!

Nice romantic Italian place with great food. Dim lights with mainly candles and hidden nooks make for a nice setting for an anniversary dinner. Food is reasonably priced and the location in beautiful beacon hill is a big plus!

Grotto is a special place. Not on a main street and you would pass it by if you didn't know it's there. The restaurant is below street level, dark and intimate. The food is delicious. If you love risotto, they change the dish seasonally and they are all amazing. Homemade pastas, fresh simple salads that are perfect. The house wine list is fabulous. We come here every time we're in Beacon Hill.

Excellent food! The crab raviolis were superb and quite unique, made with pistachios. The lobster fra diavlo was delicious as well and very large portion. The melting chocolate cake with some nice ice cream was heavenly! I tried my date's deconstructed scallop raviolis, outstanding as well. And tried tiramisu which was yummy. Service very slow and frustrating as they got busy. Hard to talk here, extremely loud. Food is worth it though!

Dined here for Dine Out Boston '18. The restaurant is really small and extremely dimly-lit. Each table had a candle. I didn't really mind the atmosphere. This is what I ordered: crispy confit duck leg, chicken parm, and tiramisu. The duck leg was delicious! Really loved the mustard aioli. However, I didn't really enjoy my chicken parm dish. I typically like a nice thinly breaded chicken cutlet over pasta, but Grotto put their own twist on it. My pasta was undercooked and the chicken was dry and cold. The red sauce was actually pretty tasty, though. I tried some of my friend's dishes (scallops and short ribs w/gnocchi) and they were delicious. After entrees were done, we moved on to dessert. The tiramisu was served in an ice cream sundae style cup. I'm used to it being served in its' traditional rectangular form, but the cup didn't bother me. It was still very yummy nonetheless. Overall, I thought my experience here was average, but if I am in the area, I may stop by again.
