Great place, great food. Excellent choice for romantic dinner.
It was a very lively night at the grotto! Despite how busy it was and how cozy the restaurant is, the staff made us feel welcome and comfortable from the moment we stepped in the door. The waiter guided our selections and we couldn’t be more pleased (or stuffed!!)
The fondue and cavatappi are two of the best appetizers in the city! We loved the gnocchi and beef tenderloin! And do not miss out on the bundino!
Went here for dine out Boston 2020. Prix Fix menu was one ir the larger ones for dine out Boston and prices were reasonable. I ordered the flank steak as my main and my date had the scallops “ravioli”. Fantastic, my steak was tender and juicy even though I ordered it well done and the bed of risotto it was in was smoky and tender. The scallops were to die for. Our desserts, a bread pudding with a caramel coffee ice cream and a warm melted chocolate cake with creamy vanilla ice cream for my date we’re fantastic. Service was good, timely and efficient even for a busy evening where the restaurant was at about 80% capacity (mind you, this is not a large restaurant, it it very cozy and you may make friends with patrons sitting next to you if you’re seated in the main floor, though there are some booths tucked into the corners of the room that allow for a more discreet and intimate dining experience). Overall, this menu was great for our choices and it was a very good date night. I enjoyed it very much and would certainly recommend it.
The food was fantastic. Small restaurant gets crowded.
It was restaurant week and we had never been to Grotto so we decided to try it. We had a nice meal and will return again.
Food is always incredible. The fonduta is my favorite dish on the Primi menu. Cant go wrong with any pasta. Had the banana bread pudding dessert and the chocolate cake and they were both great. Chocolate was super rich
Went there for dine out Boston and were glad to have three courses as the apps were great and save room for dessert as the chocolate cake is just amazing!!
Great place, excellent menu!
Came here for dine out, it was delicious! I didn’t feel rushed or anything the way I have at other restaurants for dine out. The space is small and cozy, definitely tight quarters. We had steak, duck, pasta, calamari and soup. Will definitely be back.
Pasta dishes were 4 stars, not 5; solid but not spectacular. Wonderful mozzarella app.
Grotto has been one of my favorite restaurants for the past few years. The menu is great; food is fabulous and the servers are the friendliest and most efficient in Boston. My only regret is that the restaurant is small; difficult to bring clients to.
Grotto is a small space, a very intimate setting. It is great for a date and the food was delicious! The service was great as well, well paced, not rushed and not too slow!
Best Chicken Parm in Boston!
Nice little restaurant... cozy without being crowded. Cavatelli was fabulous! Absolutely delicious! Risotto and gnocchi also extremely good. Banana bread pudding smell divine and tasted better. We were definitely members of the clean-plate club. A must try dinner.
I ate the Scampi. I get Scampi at most restaurants and this dish at the Grotto far surpassed every other place!!! It has a very comfortable and romantic type setting. The waiter made us feel at home.
What a wonderful experience. The waitstaff were friendly and attentive. The food was delicious, fresh and full of flavor. The restaurant is small, intimate and cozy. So glad we found Grotto. We'll be back!
Always a great meal at Grotto. Love the subterranean location - reminds me of Rome. Service is stellar. Food excellent.... mmmmm!!!
I had better service at the abandoned McDonald’s down the street.
Incredible experience and food but service was extremely lacking. Had to ask for water refills 4 times before being served and some food items were outright forgotten. We had to flag down a different waiter several times throughout the night and he provided immediate service, so it seems we had a bad server.
A fantastic place for a romantic dinner. Busy since it was Valentine's Day, but we weren't rushed out and we never had to wait for service. The setting is cool and both our meals were fantastic. Would definitely come back. Affordable for the location and quality.
Valentine’s Day! Grotto is one of our favorite restaurants and we’ve been there many times. We had a late reservation and our table wasn’t ready. When we placed our order we were asked what we wanted for dessert - we said we wanted to play it by ear and were told we had to order dessert now “for planning since the kitchen was finishing up” then we ordered wine and they did not bring the bottle we ordered - when we pointed it out, the waiter argued with us over whether it was the right bottle or not (definitely was not - the bottle we ordered was what we served at our wedding so very familiar with what it is!) and opened the bottle during this discussion so we were stuck with it. The food was amazing as usual, but at the end of the meal someone came around letting us know we had to leave by 11:15 because they don’t have a liquor license- then the lights came on and the kitchen staff or wait staff started having a loud meeting to wrap up the night! You should not offer late reservations if the wait staff is too tired to offer a good service, and you’ll turn all the lights on and kick your guests out! The hostess and waiter both mentioned how busy it had been that night but what do you expect??? It Valentine’s Day! First table and last table should both have the same experience in my book! Very disappointing!
The Grotto has always been the perfect restaurant for lunch or dinner. Superb food coupled with superb and attentive wait staff . Been going to the Grotto for years and it has always maintained the consistent level of excellence.... great date night for my wife and I..... try it... you’ll LOVE it !!!
Quaint little place with fantastic food. Would highly recommend.
Great place. We have been there before and were not disappointed this time. The food was really good, service a little slow because the place was busy, but not too bad
Very nice place, excellent food. Pleasant ambience, leisurely pace. Friendly staff. Highly recommend.
Didn’t blow my socks off, but the service was superb and the food was pretty good! I’d say for the price, you probably find Italian that’s tastier in Boston. With that being said, I’d eat here again if someone requested, and I wouldn’t be too bummed.
The food here is amazing. Its always amazing. I come here a lot, but this was the first time where the service was really lacking. Unfortunate.
Very nice experience
Great Italian food with a prix fixe option that is reasonable for the area and the type of food. I'm not a wine drinker, so I can not comment on the quality of the wine list. The food is excellent and the service is top notch. Overall, this is a great small Italian restaurant.
Excellent meal in a cozy setting- will definitely be coming back!
The two of us were here on a Sunday night for a last minute Birthday dinner celebration. We were able to get seated at a booth otherwise reserved for 4 people since it was quiet. The drink menu was decent, but unfortunately a couple of the cocktails were out since it's seasonal. We had a fondue for a starter and it was perfect. It was tastey, saucey and not too cheesey as that could be heavy. Then we had a carne and veal. Both were delicious. We did not order dessert and there was no special attention for the birthday boy. Oh well. Food was good though.
Food and service was excellent as usual
Highly recommend!!! Food was amazing! 3 of us had the beef tenderloin sides of asparagus and risotto were wonderful complements! Homemade spaghetti, sauce & meatballs were thoroughly enjoyed by the 4th member of our party.
I can’t say enough about our waiter, Bryan. He had a thorough knowledge of the menu and was so helpful at narrowing down our choices. He made it seem like we were guests in his home!
The service was just OK and the door kept on opening with the cold wind with 14 degrees blowing inside
Chicken was like rubber, portions were extremely small
This is one of my favorite restaurants. The service and food were great. The Grotto is a small place and there happened to be a large party. They all tried to talk at once and over each other which made for a very noisy dinner.
Great place to eat a delicious pasta with meat balls and a variety of excellent wines.
The food! O my god, THE FOOD is sooo good! The lighting is mighty dim, but, geez golly gosh the food is so good.
Food was good but service not so much and the waiter spilled red wine on our friends lap. The staff definitely could have handled the situation a lot better.
Food was unbelievably delicious. Service was outstanding. Would come back. 10/10 would recommend.
