Food was good. Service was great. Brunette bartender was distractingly pretty. I will definitely go back if I am in the area.
Good food and service sitting at the bar. Had a reservation for 4 at 6:30 pm on a Saturday and probably wasn't needed. Beers on tap could use improvement. Been here several times and have no real complaints.
My wife sent her shrimp tacos back after the first bite, horrible. My Fish and Chips were oily and soggy, should have seen red flag when I saw the owner/manager bringing in take out from Zoes.
Cute local pub with good food. Ate downstairs. Really friendly service.
Solid neighborhood pub kind of place with a cast of characters as guests, including some classic loudmouth drunks and cranky old farts.
Room to improve on service and food
The food at Grog Grill is good pub food. The service was outstanding however. I've gotten worse service at restaurants that are much more expensive.
Average bar food. Nothing special. Had to call a few days after because they never marked us as “seated” to get our open table points.
Food was excellent and service superb. A perfect neighborhood spot.
Our appetizers were 45 minutes late in being served. We were offered nothing as an excuse other than that the manager told our server to say the kitchen was backed up. No apology, no free drink, etc. Then to add insult to injury, my wife asked for extra pickles with her hamburger. Not a big deal until the check arrived and we were charged 50 cents extra for a few sliced pickles. Are you kidding? We won't be back.
Fun time -
Great flatbreads and ahi tuna appetizer
Good portions of food prepared to order. Everything was delicious.
Prices were good
Really great margaritas! Food was decent, & service was awesome!
Better than average pub food
Fantastic service and food
Great pub. Food is good and good drink options. Plan to return!
The food was American bar food along with Irish pub entrees. That said, the food was very good! I really enjoyed it!
The beer list was also very comprehensive, which was exciting particularly for smaller joint that mostly seats college students and their families.
The service was very friendly and helpful. However, they were not terribly attentive. We asked for more water and a box, and waited 10 minutes, and had to ask again. A simple mistake, but really the restaurant was not that busy so I am not sure why we were overlooked.
I do want to emphasize that the staff and management were kind and helpful though. They outside of the minor lack of attention we were given, they were awesome. Unfortunately, I got my pants caught on a loose nail that had been missed during a repair of the booth we were sitting in. The management was kind enough offer me cash or a discount off my bill to cover the value of the pants, I didn't even have to ask!
I choose to have it deducted off my bill, suggesting $20 as the value of the pants, but the management was kind enough to take $30 off. The is GREAT customer service.
Because the of kindness of the staff/management, the quality of the food, and the great beer menu, I would definitely return to this restaurant .
It's average pub fare. Nothing horrible and nothing amazing.
Great place for bar food that is different. Like avocado fries! Southwest salad with a real kick!
Great meal, as usual! We love it here! Food is consistent and service is always great!
Our Open Table reservation was not honored. My ginger ale tasted watered down and I was told "that's how it tastes." Never received a salad that was supposed to go with my entree. If you're a college student who wants to get drunk and doesn't care what your food tastes like(as long as you are a rich college student) this is your place,
Great dinner as usual! One of our favorite local places for a burger and a beer.
Typical pub fare. Servers were friendly and stopped at are table when needed. I had the salmon burger, date had fish and chips, and we shared the fried mozzerella appetizer(Which was the best part of the meal).
For the second year in a row, my family met before The Sound of Musoc sing a long across the street. There was a minimal staff on which led to a very nice man being incredibly overworked and service running very slowly. Additionally, the drinks and food took far too long to be served and we were only checked on because we needed to ask for assistance multiple times
One of our top picks for lunch when visiting the area. Good food, great service and a nice neighborhood bar.
Great food and beer and an easy night with the kids. Our burgers and wings were very good, little ones enjoyed their chicken and grilled cheese. Easy place to go with the kids for good bar food.
Grog serves a special need for the older crowd. It is close to the Bryn Mawr theatre, the service is excellent, friendly, accommodating.
We had turkey burgers and salmon burgers. Everyone was pleased. We ate in the bar area as steps to dining room upstairs were daunting for us seniors. Th e tables in bar are high tops except for two tables by the window.
I will definitely return.
Met my girlfriend for lunch here since she works nearby and doesn't always have as much time as I do. Parked and fed the meter a block and change away. Beer selection was excellent, not like a warehouse in quantity, but the list of options was quite thoughtful. Food and service were both great. Would absolutely lunch here again and again, could see it becoming a tradition to meet here - perfect local meeting spot for lunch.
We were looking for a spot to go while visiting son at Villanova. The Grog Grill was perfect - lots of tv screens to watch your favorite college football team on. Waiter was excellent - gave us good suggestions. Try the Chicken Pot Pie, potstickers and cheese curds!
It's just a good beer dive bar, I would never eat here again. I am not sure why it is on open table, the food is awful and so is the service.
It is a nice place, food was great, but a bit noisy for old ladies.....
Grog remains a great spot for casual dining. The food and service are always excellent, consistently over many years.
The Grog Grill's extensive menu assures that everyone in the party can find what he or she wants to eat. The bar/pub is downstairs, with dining upstairs. The high-top table arrangement can be a bit awkward for more than 4 people at a table; watch out, the stools are high and backless! The food is good, if not fancy: especially loved the really tasty cilantro-lime salad (one person had it with chicken, another with mahi mahi); fish and chips were good. Large selection of burgers and sandwiches and many old favorite main courses. Large wine (and cider!) list; chose the cider of the day (recommended by our waitperson); it was delicious. We arrived very early, so noise wasn't a consideration (don't know how it is later), and service was good and prompt. Reasonable prices. We'll surely gather there again.
Reviews were enticing - but, found the burgers over cooked and relatively over greasy.
Was expecting more but got a bit less - having made a reservation found it hard to get someone to provide our table - no hostess, just go to the bar and ask for your reserved table ... I guess...
We went for Mother's Day and our waiter was terrific! Very personable and right on top of things. Great experience.
Service great. Food way above average pub food.
Very kid friendly in the upstairs dining area. Plenty of sports on TV to keep the kids interested. Standard pub food and a really good beer bottle craft beer list. Tap list was just OK - nothing special in the craft category. They had bag pipers and drummers outside welcoming people in last Sat night (March 19th) which was awesome! They were really good and the only reason we came here for the first time.
We went for dinner on St. Patty's Day and had a lovely meal. Lots of activity going on for the holiday. They had a bagpiper playing. We'll definitely be back!
The Grog has always been a go to for drinks and burgers after work with friends. More recently my wife and I have started hitting the Grog before and after seeing a film at the Bryn Mawr Film Institute. The last couple of times my wife and I have gone we've been met at the door by host/hostess who quickly found us a table. The wait staff has been vey attentive and helpful - on our last visit the kitchen didn't quite get my wife's order right - but the waiter came right over and corrected the problem. The beer selection is good, burgers are great and all of the entrees I've had have been excellent. We'll be back - and I'd recommend the Grog if you're looking for some good food in a relaxed atmosphere.
