I visit frequently. Lovely Mexican decor with a Mexican flavor menu. Food is not typical Mexican and is varied and very good. Calamari is terrific! Chef is vary hands on and can customize a meal for you. Wait staff is usually friendly, but service can be slow.

The food was excellent. The service was slow when there was service. Considering that the restaurant was less than 1/2 full on a Saturday night, we were quite surprised that it took over 10 minutes before we even received water. The hostess said that the waitress was busy in the kitchen. Service did not improve throughout the meal. We chose this restaurant because I read that this was a top 10 place for a SouthWestern meal. In hindsight the reviews I ready were based on the food, not the service. There are too many restaurant choices to go back. Too bad.

The food was not that good, the service was pretty terrible. It was Valentine's Day and the restaurant was not busy, yet, upon arrival, we were not offered even water for approximately 10 minutes. I had to ask twice for a water refill before getting one towards the end of the meal. We ordered drinks and they took another 15 minutes to come out. The server blamed the delay on the bar, claiming that they were swamped, but they obviously were not.
We were never approached regarding a second round of drinks. The queso fundido was pretty good, but the guacamole was very bland. I had the pollo asado and was very under-impressed by the quality and taste.
Overall, not a good experience, I won't be back.

Chef Jeff never disappoints, the Valentine's menu was phenomenal, but we expected nothing less. Our server Jose was awesome and the manager Cassandra stopped by to make sure everything was spot on.

As we sat there, enjoying the open air and city view, a full moon rose over the Catalinas. What a treat. Although you might not be able to replicate that, you can enjoy a city view from the patio and delicious food. My husband's chile relleno was unusual - not battered nor fried. He reported that it was excellent. I chose the taco trio. Carne asada ws my favorite. Although this spot is a long drive from home for us, it was certainly worth the trip.

Food was very good, nice patio. Had to pay for chips and salsa which is not the norm for Mexican rest. The portion size was very small almost like appetizer size so very pricey for the small portions.

Good food, friendly staff, nice decor. Definitely would return to eat there. We went on a week night so it wasn't very busy. It was nice to be able to converse and hear the conversation. I ordered the quesadillas which were very different but also delicious. Presentation of the meals was very nice.

We dined here last Saturday with another couple. Three of us ordered the Gringo Paella which according to the the menu contains Whitefish, Shrimp, Clams, Fideo Noodles, Tomato Saffron Broth, Roasted Garlic Citrus Aioli, Toasted Bread.

While it was quite tasty, this $24 entree contained only 3 small shrimp, 2 clams and a few tiny pieces of whitefish in each of our platters. The dish consisted almost entirely of a bowl of noodles with a large amount of corn, an item not listed in the description. When the manager came over to check if everything was ok, I mentioned the shortage of seafood.

The manager sent the executive chef to our table. He confirmed that the amount of seafood we received is correct and offered to send some additional seafood. He sent 1 shrimp, 1 clam and a piece of fish, but only for me - nothing for the other 2 people who also ordered this dish.

I cannot complain about the taste of my meal, but I do feel that the price charged for what we received was excessive, and that will prevent me from returning.

Four of us decided to try out Gringo Grill and enjoyed ourselves very much. It is located next to the La Posada hotel in Tucson, and so is large enough to hold hotel groups. However, it also works for those who are not hotel guests.

The food leans toward Southwestern/upscale Mexican. Three of us ordered one of the specials, lobster enchiladas, which were really good, and QUITE filling. Our fourth ordered a taco trio, with Mahi Mahi (2) and carnitas (1). He liked the fish tacos a lot, though thought the carnitas were dry--unfortunately, a common issue with carnitas. Three of us ordered beers on tap and one ordered the special martini. She really enjoyed the drink, even though it was sweet and she usually orders them dry.

Our wait staff members were very attentive and sensitive to our needs; and we Left feeling that we had had a good dinner experience. I would recommend this restaurant to my friends.

The restaurant has great views from the outdoor patio and some of the booths near the rear. Very few people on 5/5 and a loud band detracted from the atmosphere. The inside was too warm and felt as if the A/C wasn't on. The food was just average.
I loved this restaurant before it changed owners and became Gringo Grill. I doubt I'd return as nothing was noteworthy.

Our entrees were very flavorful and much more interesting than typical Mexican fare. However, the margaritas were almost tasteless and were mostly ice. Possibly the worst margarita in Tucson. The service was prompt. We will probably return but never order a margarita there again.

Party of 4 dined on their scenic patio and all enjoyed great meals and drinks. Service was a little spotty-but that was due to a large group from AARP dining at the same time.We were not in a hurry, so that was not a major issue. All in all, the staff did a superb job in preparation of our food and drinks. Highly recommend this restaurant for good food.

Gringo Grill and Cantina must be great, we keep coming back
We've decided to make this one of our regular stops for lunch. First check them out on Yelp and claim your free drink coupon then book through Open Table.
Not a very long menu but so far everything we've had has been executed to perfection. Many of the items, including the sample tortillas with chipotle butter, are served on a small bamboo platter. Another nice touch, the home made mayonnaise!
I may try the Ghost Margarita next time, think VERY Spicy ghost peppers sharing their heat with the tequila. We tried a tiny amount of the pepper/tequila infusion and agreed it was hot. I wouldn't want to drink it straight but in a Margarita, sure.
May Chef John retain his Iron Chef Tucson title for 2015-2016.

I wish the menu had more choices. I felt it was limited. We all had a difficult time choosing. The Tacos were not anything that you won't find at most upscale Mexican restaurants. The steak, which is what I would have loved to have was $29,99 for 16 ozs. I felt was a bit pricey for a Mexican place. The food overall was not bad, just I thought a bit overpriced for what we got. Service was fine, someone constantly stopping by to see if we were OK and if we needed anything. Not sure if I would return.

Our service was excellent. Our server was very attentive and very gracious. The food on the other hand left a lot to be desired. My chimi was swimming in grease and over fried. Our friends tacos were good but came with nothing, just three tacos, no rice or beans. She ordered rice and beans on the side, but came in a small bowl all mixed together with either cheese or sour cream, she couldn't tell.
They looked awful and tasted just as bad. Our husbands had enchiladas and they too were not good.
They ordered chicken, but neither man could figure out what the meat was. Theirs came with the same mystery beans and rice. The chips and salsa were okay. The salsa was actually good, but the
chips were tough, even though they had just come out of the fryer. This use to be Miguels and it was
a wonderful place with great food, great service, and white linen tableclothes. Not anymore.
I really don't see how the chef won the Iron Chef contest in Tucson. Glad we were using our dining
card because we only paid for one meal for each couple. If you want a good Mexican restaurant
try San Carlos near the theater on Tangerine and Oracle. It is the best.

A group of us visited during happy hour, and everything was excellent: The food was tasty, the service was friendly and efficient and the atmosphere was charming and fun. We stuck to the appetizers, which rocked. Try the queso dip, guacamole and quesadillas. You can't go wrong, and the happy hour specials are great. There are $3 Dos Equis; $5 glasses of wine and well drinks; and a $6 margarita. The 2014 Iron Chef works here, too, for some added cachet.

The food is very tasty with a nice Mexican flair. Our service could not have been better. The young man answered all our question about the items on the menu. We were 5 guests and each had a different entree none were disappointed. The only down side was the portions are quite small and there is a $3 charge for chips. We will definitely visit again and would recommend it to others.

The Iron Chef quesadilla was awesome!! The other food, which we shared, was also very good. We ordered the donuts for dessert, which were good, but I wouldn't order them again. They just weren't that "special". Also, one of our party ordered a happy hour margarita, which she said was "weak on the tequilla".

But, I'd go back and refine my choices.
