Grindstone Charley's - Lafayette
Friday - Saturday: 11:00am - 11:00pm
The baked potato soup and breaded pork tenderloin sandwiches are the best.
We will not be back to this restaurant. This was our second visit. Our first visit was mediocre. Despite having good servers both visits, the hostess and kitchen service needs serious improvement. This past visit, we arrived on time and we were promptly seated in an almost empty dining room right behind a table whose occupants were particularly loud and rude. Then, after placing our orders we waited approximately 1 hour to get our meals, which were appetizers and a salad, and some of which were cold while others were hot. Not wanting to wait that long again for our food to come back out we did not send back the cold appetizers. While we waited for our meal, I received an email from Open Table chastising me for not showing up to our reservation. I emailed back that I was, in fact, there as scheduled. I went out to the hostess station to let them know about the email so that I could be checked in with OT and I was told “to just ignore the email”...no apology for forgetting to put it in the first place. When I said that I’d like them to check us in w OT so I could get my points, the hostess acted annoyed. Our server did the best she could, but for a restaurant that was literally slow at the time, the ineptitude of the hostesses and the kitchen, in addition to the loud, rude table neighbors made our first night’s dinner of Purdue’s family weekend an irritating experience.
Always straight-forward food at a decent price. French Dip was tAsty with an excellent roll and good dipping juice. The Cole slaw was creamy and fresh tasting (thank you) and my server was attentive and friendly. Open Table worked like a charm. Desk staff were earnest, cute and clean. Always an ok place to get in, eat, and drink.
The only plus was the ribs and bread pudding were pretty good. Service wasn’t too bad. Chose this restaurant because of pretty good reviews on open table. Didn’t quite stand up to my expectations
Birthday for my dad! Salmon is awesome! Great service
Decent restaurant food at a moderate price. Nice bar with lots of offerings. Stuffed mushrooms were terrific and prime rib above diner quality (but not steakhouse level). Something for everybody. We go when in Lafayette for Purdue event as there is usually enough options for all.
On Open Table, so easy to reserve and the staff is congenial.
Found a hair in my food
Very good service and great food
Great food, good service. Bread was great, but came late right before food was brought out
It is a half way point between our daughter in Illinois and our Ohio home.
Great, prompt service. Good food, nice portion size. Good casual atmosphere with some flat panels spattered around the rooms.
Was a very good dining experience? Good Customer Service.
Great value and food taste good, a good great go to spot if you couldn't think of where else to eat!
Spent an early Mother's Day there with family for the 2nd year... good food and service again!
Good food that was delivered promptly. Diverse menu matched the tastes - we will come back!
The bar seating was cramped at best, they put 5 people in a small booth. I am have a VIP Card and no points were put on my card. Other than that, the food was good and it was a good value.
A birthday event, I was pleased overall with the menu and the space . I had the walleye which was tender, I also had a Southern fried chicken salad which was available in a half order size ( a nice option). The long island ice tea was good but the smallest I have ever had.
The service was good.
Went to eat after my daughter’s Fashion Show. We got burgers and salads, and everyone enjoyed!
Great food, great service. Loved the fried green tomatoes.
The food was great, sever was good. We were disappointed there was someone there clearing our table and took food away we were going to take home. She interrupted our post lunch Easter time and family picture time. Manger tried to make it right by reducing bill, but that does not change result. We usually enjoy this restaurant, but probably won't return for a holiday meal. They wanted to turn table so bad, they interrupted our time, and that's not okay, we are very family oriented, and value our family time too much to have it rudely interrupted.
Good eating, casual chain restaurant, a bit more expensive than comparable places, and a bit noisy. Nevertheless, a good place to go unless you are hoping for quiet and romantic.
Excellent food and service. One of my favorite places to eat.
Able to seat our group of 9 quickly after the Purdue/IU game. Our server took good care of us and all of our requests.
Nice to be able to get the only reservation left in town. The food was just ehh. Broccoli was over done. Fruit was yuck steak salty salmon good. Waitress was rude and short telling us she did not really have time to go over the menu. She forgot my drink which dis not arrive at all.
Our waitress was very good and knowledgeable. Good came out fast as we were in a bit of a hurry.
We ended up with a party of 10 and it was handled great.
Good all around place for food and atmosphere. Not high end, but not low end. Right in the middle. Family friendly. Reminded me of Quaker Steak and similar places.
Great Pork Tenderloin sandwich coleslaw and soups.
Family meal while dropping son off to college. We try to find places that offer variety in the food to make kids and parents happy and my husband likes to go places were he can try a locally brewed beer. This place has both. My kids are also picky about the atmosphere of the restaurant and they really liked it here. Loved that you could make reservations online. No waiting. Waitress was awesome. Very friendly. Food was very good and got plenty of it. My one son didn't love his buffalo chicken sandwich, said it was kind of soggy. He would have preferred it crispier. Would definitely go again and would recommend to others.
I enjoyed my food and asked the other 5 people that were with me and each of us had a different meal but everyone said their food was wonderful! I have been there many times and every meal has been great.
In Lafayette for a wrestling tournament. Stopped in afterward. Sat at the bar. They had a 1/2 order of their great fried green tomatoes, and my husband loves their onion soup. People were friendly, food was good. We didn't get entrees. We have a Grindstones near us in Indianapolis and it's not great. This location was very nice. Bartender said it is independently owned. Nice place, would recommend.
Met our oldest daughter, attending Purdue, after our second oldest daughters high school graduation, for dinner. Good food, great value and Abby, our waitress, provided excellent service!
The waitress was very friendly. The manager came to our table to ask us if everything was okay.
I love this restaurant/bar. In fact, I chose it for my Mother's Day dinner. The food is amazing. Portions are generous. The bar area is laid-back and casual. The drinks are great. Melanie has been our server multiple times and her wit, enthusiasm, and personality keeps us coming back. Our last visit was a party of four, over 21 crowd. Everyone loved their appetizers and entree choices. We will go out of our way to visit. Great place!!
Service was very good. Food was good but we have had better. Don't think the Grouper I ordered was the real Grouper. The shrimp kabobs were very good. My wife said she would order them again.
It was adequate. It was like an Applebee's or some other corporate chain place. I was surprised it was an Open Table offering. The staff did their jobs well enough. The food was mediocre. The setting was in an industrial area.
Our server was horrible. Not friendly nor efficient. Our orders were not correct and half our party waited a very long time for their food to come out. Bad experience. It was a Saturday night. I go there for lunch often and love it. Probably won't go back for dinner.
Very nice waitress. Varied menu with lots of decent choices: soups, salads, sandwiches, burgers, platters. Strip steak and grouper were pretty good. Nice side salads.
Friendly staff, great food.
The waiter was overbooked in his section with three large tables seated about the same time. He did what he could but needed help and no one from management stepped up to help. If it was my place the management staff would be history.
