Our setting is unmatched and the best casual, neighborhood dining in the West End. The bar is ornately decorated with massive mirrors, large columns and a multitude of glowing candles. These, along with the open kitchen where flames leap from the grill, create a warmth and intimacy in a casual atmosphere.

The food was excellent. I decor reminded me of the Roman Ruins.
I have been coming to Grillfish since 2000, and it is consistently excellent. On my most recent visit, I took my wife and daughter and my brother and his wife visiting from out of town. Everything from the bread (crispy crust, soft on the inside, with great herb butter) to the coffee and dessert were excellent. I don't live in DC and only get to come to Grillfish every few months, so I always end up eating the fabulous Arctic Char with the sweet onion sauce. My daughter had that also, but she always gets some of ALL the sauces. My brother and sister-in-law had the Mahi Mahi, which they raved about. My wife had Rockfish with a new sauce the waiter recommended--she loved it. The sides (mashed potatoes, roasted vegetables) and desserts (Crème Brûlée cheesecake and carrot cake with vanilla ice cream) were excellent as well. I always get a great waiter at Grillfish, and Saturday Night was no exception. This is--bar none--my favorite restaurant in the DC area.
Really enjoyed the food and the service.
Nice surprise. Great food. Very good service. Nice neighborhood ambiance. Excellent striped bass
We had great food and service! I went with my husband and 7 year old son. I was very pleased. Definitely will stop by again soon.
We arrived in town at dinner time and were staying a few minutes walk from the Catfish. Since it was highly rated, we made our reservation and had a delightful meal of lobster hush puppies and the mixed grill, with sides of asparagus and cole slaw. We were received nicely, seated quickly and served with grace and ease.
The Calamari & Shore Platters were greasy. Chris P. , thank you for the wonderful service!
We have dined in many establishments from diners to Five Star restaurants. We have never experienced worse service. The waitress was rude and surly. She actually threw the butter plate on the table as she said sorry. Refused to clear plates. Refused to bring water. Intentionally refused service. She did all she could to make it an unpleasant experience. Unbelievable. And no relief from manager or coworkers who were observing the entire charade. Apparently this is standard treatment. This type of non-service can only happen if the management condones it. The subpar food was overshadowed by the abusive service. We were glad to leave. Do not ever go there. We won’t again. I don’t usually rate restaurants but the poor experience deserves the effort. People should know what they are in for.
The service and cuisine was excellent, not pretentious, with one of the managers Julian checking in on us.
There will never be enough words to express how much we enjoyed this restaurant! The staff were friendly, the atmosphere was nice and laidback and the food was incredible. I honestly can’t remember the last time that I enjoyed a meal so much! The distinct flavors of each dish and the presentation made me feel like I was in a much fancier restaurant! Fine dining food at a mid-range price!
I can’t recommend this restaurant enough!
Delicious food but the service was spotty. It wasn’t very busy but we still had trouble getting refills etc. Very reasonable price point!
First time. Food was solid fish chowder was quite good. Will return when in DC again.
Waiter was very gracious to two elderly members of our party.
We were on a long weekend for our 46th wedding anniversary. This was our last night in Washington and we wanted a special dinner without breaking our wallets. After an exhaustive search on the internet, we decided on Grillfish. What a great choice! First off, they treated us like royalty since they knew that it was our anniversary, via OpenTable. Our waiter, Vick, was wonderful. He also treated us like a king and a queen. The food was excellent and reasonably priced, for downtown Washington. We had shrimp and oysters for an appetizer and then had scallops and Fra Diavolo as entrees. It was all excellent and then they threw in dessert for us for our anniversary. The environment was great and it turned out to be an excellent “anniversary date night”!
Very fresh and wonderfully prepared.
I had a great experience. The staff was great. The food was excellent. A good selections of food. My waiter was very knowledgeable of the menue. The restaurant is a nice reasonable place to take a date for great seafood, good drinks, and it will not break the bank.
Grillfish is consistently excellent. We had swordfish and halibut. Both were perfectly cooked. The Stoli Doli's were a nice start. Great chocolate cake a la mode for dessert. Latoya was personable and helpful. We couldn't have asked for more.
Had a great meal. Service was terrific. Good kids menu too.
We were at the restaurant on a Saturday afternoon. The menu had changed since our last visit so we were slightly disappointed. Nevertheless, the food was still decent but the service was a bit slow.
Had the mixed grill of seafood- delicious!!
I got the mixed grill, which came with a variety of seafood (shrimp, scallops, dolphin fish, etc.). Simple food cooked to perfection. The red curry sauce that came on the side was out of this world. Also, the grilled vegetables were really good. If you're looking for something trendy/edgy this isn't the place. Go if you are looking for well-prepared food in a good atmosphere. Will go back.
My friends and I went there to celebrate birthdays for our group the place was wonderful! We all had these specialty margaritas which we loved! All of our entrees were delicious. I highly recommend this place for a great seafood dinner that is reasonably priced
All I can say is great fish, great price, super service and nice location.
Good for after meeting dinner and probably a decent happy hour as well.
Very disappointed expected more from the reviews. Service was slow as they seemed to be understaffed in a busy Sunday night . Our server was burnt out and didn't really care ( Did not explain the menu , never brought bread, never checked when the food came out.).
The food was fast but that's probably because my Salmon was still sushi raw in the middle., will not be returning again.
The food was ok, it came out fast, but the service was mediocre.
The crab and shrimp omlet was the best I've ever had. Loved that all the great fish options were still available. The mimosa choices are great, and the service is attentive without being cloying. The perfect brunch.
Good service by waiter Wind and food was above average . Tony the manager did nice gesture of complementary desert for a slight dissatisfaction we had.
Unfortunately the reviews that I read were far more positive than our experience. To begin with, the room temperature was quite warm, as in uncomfortable, as the air conditioning was under producing. But most importantly the food was nothing more than average. Bread was brought to the table approximately 15 minutes after we ordered. The appetizers of portobello mushroom and shrimp scampi were unimaginative and routinely prepared by what seemed...amateur short order cooks. Their signature (?) dish... grilled seafood was bland and underwhelming. The seafood linguini was nothing special... lacked seasoning. The Mac & cheese that we ordered for our 12 year old was much too spicy and was uneaten....no mention of the spiciness appeared on the menu. Our server like everything else about this restaurant was of poor quality. Had to ask twice for my wife’s cocktail and had to ask 4 times to have my daughters water glass refilled. Would never return to this restaurant.
Four of us went for dinner during Restaurant Week. The choices were fantastic. Everyone got something different and we were all pleased. The service and atmosphere were also great. We will return!
Came here during restaurant week, but would likely not come and pay the regular prices. This is a good place generally. The entres were delicious. The appetizers tasted like they were defrosted, but the dessrt was tasty.
We truly enjoyed the brunch. I had bananas foster French toast, which was delicious! My son had a crab and shrimp
Omelette, which he really liked. Nice atmosphere!
Great food and service, had great brunch!
The food wasn't the greatest and the host didn't make way to connect with my party in the process of seating. We went for restaurant week and the entree's were quite average to taste. The mango sorbet and kale salad was great, however! We also had a very helpful and friendly server named Katie.
I would give it another try and order off the main menu for sure.
My friends and I went for dinner for restaurant week. The food was really tasty and fresh. The only disappointment was our waitress. She wasn’t friendly nor engaging. At times, it felt as though we were an annoyance when asking for condiments. Aside from that we enjoyed dining there and would definitely return.
Happy hour had a nice seafood menu. We had the mussels, mixed grill, fish lettuce wrap, and a salad. They were all well prepared and nicely priced. We would come back.
Nothing special. Fish was bland, waiter was pleasant, and ambiance was more family-dining than romantic.
We came here for restaurant week. Of the 4 of us, two really liked their entree, and all really liked their appetizers. I was especially gratified that my salmon piccata came served on spinach, rather than pasta, per my dietary request. And it was DELICIOUS! The folks who had the mixed seafood platter were not impressed. The Key Lime pie was wonderful, the mixed sorbet was coconut, which no one knew in advance and I personally do not care for. And although the server was pleasant, we felt like we had been forgotten. Our drinks took a long time to be served. The server did not ask which of 3 sauces the folks with the mixed seafood wanted, and the one served was too spicy for one of the diners. We finally asked a different server to bring dishes of the other sauces. So, kind of a mixed experience for us.
Went for restaurant week in DC. Excellent waiter and great food!!
Food was amazing. Service was outstanding. Would highly recommend
Very pleased with Grillfish. The food was very good with some imagination beyond the usual seafood restaurant. The service was excellent. Our server Chris was very helpful as we chose our dinner selections. The location was very convenient to all the hotels in the West End/Georgetown section. We will definitely return on our next trip to Washington DC.
