It was a good meal. Oysters from pei were take good.
Fish was a bit bland, service a bit slow, but overall nice place. Would return again but order diff items.
Broccoli I was cold and bok choy soggy
Grillfish is a reliable seafood establishment. It is consistently good at grilling fish, offering a nice assortment of local fish prepared very well.
Food was ok but a restaurant specializing in seafood should certainly know better than to overcook tuna. Place was far too noisy to easily carry on a conversation. Will probably look elsewhere to find good seafood in D.C.
The Food & Service was excellent. Some of the portion sizes were on the smaller side, but I still left satisfied.
We loved everything about our meal! The ambience is cozy, but lively enough that it was upbeat. The service was excellent, unrushed, and they gave us complementary dessert for our birthday/graduation celebration. All 7 of us loved the appetizers and our meals. The calamari and scallop appetizers were especially delicious! We will definitely come back!
One of the best birthday dinners ever! Thank you for making us feel welcome and making my day special.
Grace is an outstanding waitress.
We ate here twice on a recent weekend visit to DC. The first time I had a piece of red fish (similar to snapper), which was just perfectly cooked--exquisite. The second visit we shared the mixed grill, which was not quite as perfect but still quite good. Entrees are mostly fresh fish, cooked simply, with dipping sauces and a side (I had asparagus.) Easy place to eat gluten free, if you like fish. Service very good. On our second visit, we were seated outside when a giant typhoon-like thunderstorm started; we moved inside and I nursed my last drops of wine for a good while, hoping the rain would slow, and they were very gracious about it although they were busy. Wish we had a fish place like this near us.
I typically love Grillfish, but I have come to realize that they may not be a good option on holidays/special weekends. When I have dined during the week, the food was amazing, so I was excited to bring my family for Mother's Day. Let me first say the service was spectacular and I think that this was an off day for them. I have been to grillfish many times and this was my first negative experience. The food quality was just not what I wanted it to be. Again, the service was spectacular and I would go again, but never on a weekend.
Excellent food and service. Great food for an excellent price! Will definitely dine here again.
The setting is a bit dingy with a rather dark downbeat mural taking up an enormous wall but fish and seafood meals are excellent.
Was ok. Fantastic tamarind margaritas
From the moment we walked in the staff was on point. Greeted us like family. Excellent wine, dinner and dessert were delicious. Recommend the chocolate sundae cake and the lobster pasta dish. Scallops were very good too. Thanks for a wonderful evening!
We've eaten at grillfish a number of times. The seafood preparations are simple, but very tasty. The fish is fresh, the sauces are well-made, and the side dishes provide good accompaniment. A nice, rotating list of tap beers and cocktails. Desserts are also excellent, if you have room.
Disappointed. Waiter was completely unfamiliar with the menu. After suggesting the special, lobster salad, and telling us that it was fresh, he returned to the table to tell us, "it's actually pre-made." Yuck. One of our colleagues ordered salmon on a salad. The salad came out with one bite of salmon and the rest chicken. Very confusing and off-putting. Her meal was remade and brought as the rest of us were finishing up. We ordered several desserts and the key lime pie had whipped cream that had gone bad. The manager tasted it and agreed with us at first, apologizing and offering a new dessert. But then he tried to cover up for the mistake when he returned, saying it was just made without sugar. Not. Please don't insult us. Not a penny was taken off the check. We paid in full for the entire mess.
Fantastic food. I had the Ahi Tuna and loved it. Our server was great.
Nice small local seafood restaurant in DC. The grilled fish sampler was very good and the dipping sauces added to the experience. The raw oysters were delicious but small. The waiter was very attentive.
Mussels were great, the scallops were over seasoned but the spinach was very good. Vick was taking care of us and he did a very good job. Probably would go back, sit at the bar and have a cold beer with a seafood pasta meal.
The service was slow. It took more than 10 minutes before our waitress said hello to us. Food was ok nothing special. The osyster was great. The grilled lobster was plain. It seemed boil then grilled and a bit dry.
Very good seafood - always. BUT it’s time to freshen up the restaurant. Smells too much of fish. Therefore, I only dine outdoors.
Ambiance is informal but the sea food, listed as being sustainable, was outstanding in every way. Wine choices were excellent as was the service. I would return to this restaurant in a heartbeat!
I have dined at Grillfish on several occasions. However, this was a bad experience. I think the quality of the food has gone down. My fish was over cooked. The host was not friendly. With plenty of restaurant choices in the area, I will not be returning anytime soon.
Grillfish was my favorite go-to spot for a great dinner for YEARS. Then marriage, kids and life happened and I didn't venture into this part of the city as much. Was looking for a cozy, quiet restaurant for dinner and decided to go back to my first love. Gotta say, I love it just as much as I always did! I have been ordering the grilled trout with onion sauce since Day 1 and it doesn't disappoint. The service was great, noise level ideal. Didn't have to scream over the table to have a personal conversation. Rekindled romance w/Grillfish.
My husband a nd I met his cousin for dinner Saturday night. We were seated promptly. Service was a bit quirky as the server brought 2 glasses of water instead of 3 (I was in the rest room so maybe she didn't realize I was there?) and it took her a long time to bring the 3rd glass after we asked for it. She did quickly bring my husband a taste of a draft beer she recommended (and he liked and ended up ordering). She recommended a few dishes and checked back with us a few times to see if we were ready to order. Cousin and I split the quinoa asparagus salad, which was delicious and a decent portion to share. Husband ordered the mussels over pasta with spicy marinara (it had a little bit of a kick, but not really spicy) which he enjoyed. I ordered the simply grilled tuna (Catch of the Day) with the sweet onion sauce on the side and sesame ginger bok choy as my vegetable. The tuna was cooked (seared on the outside, rare on the inside, which is what I wanted) and the sauce was a nice contrast with the fish. Cousin ordered the grilled rockfish with roasted vegetables on the side and it was also very good. We split the chocolate fudge cake and it was amazing. Service was much smoother after the beginning and we had a great time. We like that we can get well-prepared, delicious healthy food (okay, maybe not the cake...) without sacrificing taste or a fun environment. We will be back again, and, hopefully, next time, it will be warm enough to sit outside!
The food here was awesome. We had dinner here two nights.
Great food, nice ambiance
Excellent happy hour menu!!! Very good food.
A long-time favorite but experienced an “off night” in both service and food quality. Experienced difficulty communicating our order - manager corrected billing. Seafood Fra Diavalo was over-cooked.
Strawberry Rhubarb cobbler & mashed potatoes was amazing. The crab cakes were market price at $38 and were greasy and disappointing. Service was fast and LaTota J was very nice.
Fun atmosphere, casual ambiance but excellent cuisine. Well presented by a friendly waitstaff.
Some of our seafood (shrimp and scallops) was bad. When I mentioned it to the waiter, he just shrugged it off as unimportant.
Grillfish DC was a busy restaurant with a fun vibe, great food and great service. We made reservations so did not have to wait for a table. We had the buffalo chicken app. Delicious. We also had pistachio crusted mahi mahi and stuffed salmon. Both were very good. Enjoyed the pineapple carrot cake and chocolate cake for dessert.
This was a very enjoyable dining experience.
It was a little tight for our party of 10. Better suited for smaller groups. Good food.
The food was timely and delicious as always. The waiter was pleasant and service was great. My son and his girlfriend had never been but they loved it and the atmosphere and will definitely come back.
Grill fish was great. We missed a flight and had to spend the night in DC. They were able to get us in even though they were hosting an event. Buffalo shrimp app was our favorite!
One of my favorite seafood spots in DC! Try the ginger calamari!
Very good fresh sea food. very casual setting. open space. extensive menu. good service. really liked it
Service was great; however the sea bass special was a bit underwhelming as it was thinly cut and lacked true flavor. I’ve had better meals at this restaurant.
