Grillfish DC Ratings and Reviews
Our party of six had a wonderful time at Grill Fish this weekend. First, we were seated at a round table - brownie points for that right off the bat. Our server was attentive and went out of his way to accommodate special requests (with a genuine smile, no less). The food was fabulous; I had the grilled rockfish and it was perfection. The prices were reasonable and the entrees include a side dish of your choice. All in all, the restaurant exceeded my expectations and we will return.
We went to this restaurant this weekend to celebrate my husband's birthday! The food was amazing. I got the mixed grill for one. It had shrimp, scallop, salmon and I think swordfish. It was very fresh and very tasty. My husband got shrimp scampi and he also loved his meal. Our server was 'Slim' Who is friendly personable and very good at customer service! She delivered him a brownie sundae with chocolate syrup with a sparkler. Very fun
Grillfish is our favorite restaurant for special occasions and whenever guest come to town. My family and I celebrated my birthday which is also MLKing Jr. Day. We with Happy Hour and the bartender was very friendly and knowledgeable . He suggested wonderful drinks and appetizers to get our party started. The hostess, I think her name was Jay, sat us at a wonderful table and proceeded to make me feel loved on my birthday, wishing me a "Happy Birthday" and welcoming us all to the restaurant . Our waiter, Anthony, was very attentive the entire evening and suggested wonderful pairings with our meal. His service was impeccable. Our dinner was fabulous. I had the shrimp scampi with an apple and pear salad. My husband had the mixed grill with maple brussel sprouts and my son had buffalo shrimp over linguine with spinach. The food was superb.
Afterwards, the waiter surprised me with a chocolate fudge cake with ice cream with a sparkler on top for dessert. I've shared this experience with all of our friends. It was an enjoyable birthday and I truly appreciate the attentiveness of the staff in making my celebration special!
I have dined at Grillfish many times, and had excellent food. This was not the case this evening. I ordered Fra Diavlo. It was all pasta, with no shrimp whatsoever. When I complained toward the end of my meal, they brought 4 shrimp in sauce. It was not the experience I had hoped for. I don't think I'll be returning.
We just got back from NEw Years Eve dinner. Went there due to the fact it offered regular pricing optional or priz fixe. However, Not so when we arrived. We are from out of town visiting so relied on open table to guide us. I have never gone wrong with an open table restaurant. Food was good, restaurant nice but the pricing was not what we expected. Since New Year’s Eve we went with it and did enjoy our night.
CAution: be clear on pricing before you go here. We were told prices were regular menu with option of choosing prix fixed menu or regular menu. Received a call prior to our arrival confirming our reservation and prices. When we arrived the only option was prix fixed and on top of which many items were inflated, again, no mention of this previously when made reservations several weeks in advance. Very misleading and bad way of doing business.
Sorry Grillfish but you fall short on integrity and customer service.
Friendly server, mediocre, over-priced food. Starter of spinach salad flooded with yogurt-ish water dressing; mains consisted of overly large portions of under-cooked salmon and swordfish accompanied by tepid mashed potatoes and equally tepid and limp kale sprinkled with Kraft parmesan cheese powder. New Year's Eve prix fixe menu (unpleasant surprise of which we were not informed when we made our reservation). When the "quality over quantity" memo was circulated, it didn't stop here.
Great atmosphere, non-pretentious and laid back, nice bar while waiting for reservation time, service was impeccable. Our waiter made beneficial recommendations and provided great insight into the benefits of particular fish dishes. Truly outstanding seafood restaurant, and the desserts were also outstanding. Highly recommend.
This is one of the first meals in a long time in downtown DC that I really enjoyed AND found to be a good value. The food is fresh and served very nicely. And excellent value for the money, which I cannot often say about DC nicer restaurants. I will pay a return visit
This restaurant was chosen to celebrate my husband's birthday. He LOVES seafood! From the apps to the desert and even the drinks!! I haven't had a satisfying, wonderful, and tasty meal from start to finish in a LONG time!! The waiter was efficient, the ambiance was excellent and I really enjoyed this restaurant. We will back often!!
Our server was attentive and refilled water/soda without asking. The bread served was yummy. Started out with a cup of crab chowder, very good. A meal in itself. My son had the mix grill -seafood. He enjoyed it, and especially liked the candied brussel sprouts. I had the shrimp scampi, which was tasty, but shrimp were over cooked and dish was not hot. Also way too much sauce. Overall, for the amount of food, quality and price, I would certainly recommend.
Delicious food and good service. The venue is also very nice. Our group of 4 had crab cakes, Brussels sprouts, broccoli, and steak and everything was very tasty. We thoroughly enjoyed everything except at our table, the floor wasn’t level so the chairs were on a small incline which made dining for the 2 people on that side of the table a little uncomfortable. Otherwise, they would get 5 stars.
I didn't know what to expect at Grillfish, but was familiar with some of the other restaurants run by the same group so I had reasonable expectations. I requested a nice table for my wife's birthday, however we were seated close to a drafty window which wasn't ideal. Our server was mediocre and didn't check back often enough to see if we needed anything or to check back and see if our food was ok. The support staff was good including the host who was more helpful than the server. My wife ordered the lobster and it didn't come with clarified butter. By the time we got someone to bring butter she was halfway finished with her meal. I had the mixed grill which was ok, but not great. The seafood chowder was tasty with large chunks of fish. I'm glad we tried this restaurant, but won't be coming back.
We were celebrating a 75th birthday with family; party of 6 and it was easy to talk and the food was great! Highly recommended; the staff was attentive but not intrusive and brought a lovely dessert for the birthday boy. I couldn't have chosen a better place for our purpose and our taste.
I've been to Grillfish at least a half dozen times, and the food has usually been very good. I almost always get the seafood diavlo which I like. However, over time, there has been less and less sauce (which I miss); this time the seafood itself (calamari, clams, muscles) was tough and gritty (though the shrimp were fine). The staff, however, were very attentive, and everything we asked for, they brought graciously. The space is nice, the noise level allowed a conversation (rare these days!) and pricing is reasonable. I will go back, but will avoid this particular dish.
The food was outstanding and the service excellent. The waiter was very good about checking on food alergies and helping find alternatives for cooking dishes on the menu.
However, diners should never be seated by the bar! I was almost run over by people at the bar waiting to be seated. And the noise was incredibly loud.
