We are the first restaurant to partner in Washington, D.C. with the Monterey Bay Aquarium's Seafood Watch program, ensuring safe and environmentally friendly seafood as part of our cuisine.
Our setting is unmatched and the best casual, neighborhood dining in the West End. The bar is ornately decorated with massive mirrors, large columns and a multitude of glowing candles. These, along with the open kitchen where flames leap from the grill, create a warmth and intimacy in a casual atmosphere.
Great farm to table restaurant! Made sure all food allergies were addressed. Well informed staff. Some of the freshest seafood I've had and EXCELLENT value for the price. Try the Mixed Grill w red coconut curry sauce or the shore platter
Service was great! Food really good! Parking garage right next door a plus but would be nice if a parking ticket validation could waive fee ($). Enjoyed our visit.
nice experience all around. Wine prices a tad high for the venue, my opinion.
Service was awful. Only one waiter for the entire restaurant which possibly didn’t have to be a problem but she didn’t even speak as she walked by just to check on us. Furthermore we told her we were on a limited amount of time, which clearly meant nothing to her. Also she obviously didn’t care that so much food was left on our plates because she didn’t ask how it was. We didn’t enjoy the food and the people next to us didn’t either (just my assumptions of what wasn’t eaten).
Great food and service. The waiter was amazing and the ambiance was great.
The fish was excellent. The wine selection was good and included some lower cost wine bottles, which were affordable. The dessert was also very nice.
Outstanding fish, excellent service, great wine selection. What's not to like?
If going on a date, ask for Table 3. Best table for two in the house!
We had the fresh oysters, which were very good. The service was attentive. The food was good value and tasted well.
Went to Grillfish for their happy hour on a Saturday afternoon. It was a lovely atmosphere. Low lighting, not too noisy. Be aware that happy hour menu is only available at the bar, and reservations cannot be made there. Luckily, we were able to grab the last two seats and move from the dining room. The oysters were fresh and flavourful, and the margarita was quite good.
My wife and I went there for Valentines Day/ my birthday. We had a great experience. It started with our server “Knick”. He was personable and very knowledgeable. My wife had the Bronzino. I had the seafood Sicilian. Both dishes were outstanding! We will come back with friends and family.
Reserved a table for 8 people... space was a bit tight, but we made it work....the food was really good.... waitress took some long wait times, but nothing too crazy & the restaurant was pretty full... she was helpful in splitting checks at the end which can sometimes be a headache for large parties. I recommend the woodsman cocktail & the crab cakes. Overall experience was good, I would definitely return.
Nice spot for a date night on a Friday evening. Quiet at first then a buzz of energy as tables started to fill without being overly loud. Arrived half hour before reservation and were seated right away. Service was attentive, friendly and professional. Salads were fresh and flavorful. We split seafood over pasta for two. Rich sauce was not too heavy, good balance of clams, mussels, squid, shrimp and all cooked just right.
Outstanding cuisine and amazing atmosphere. Dined in for Valentine’s Day and was pleasantly surprised with the food and ambiance.
Great food! Nice environment. No complaints. Great place for a single guy to impress a potential mate lol
We had a great time celebrating Valentine’s Day and we’re stuffed with delicious food from the prix fixe Valentines menu.
Nice atmosphere for business traveler who wants a high quality meal and excellent service
Such a great welcoming neighborhood restaurant!
The food was delicious and just the right proportion.
The staff was very attentive.
We were a little confused by the service at first, but our waitress ended up being great! When asked for suggestions, our waitress didn’t disappoint; there were a couple minor mixups but they were rectified immediately!
Service was a little slow. Lighting could be better.
Food was amazing. Staff was amazing. I put that it was my anniversary when reserving a table and as soon as I walked in they remember.
Went on a Friday evening. Fairly good for the price. Kathlee was great and provided attentive service. Had the crab and spinach dip - good, but could've used either more salt or garlic or both - and the mixed grill for one (swordfish, salmon, mahi, scallops, and shrimp) with spinach (amazing) and garlic tomato sauce (which was better suited for pasta than straight seafood). The challah bread pudding was great & very similar to a cinnamon bun turned bread pudding.
I love this place because it’s quality food and service, without the bustle and long wait times you find at the trendier options in town. There is a Brussels sprout salad on the menu that you MUST have — active vegetarian or not. They also have a delightful tamarind-ginger margarita.
Grillfish is a great West End restaurant to meet a friend for a drink or have a meal. While the menu is mostly seafood, other dishes such as homemade pasta, chicken and entree salads are available and feature locally sourced foods. Always check out the daily specials!
I visit DC at least once a year and every time I come I make sure I visit Grillfish
I have been coming here for over 10 years!!! It is outstanding every time!! Will continue to Ian’s recommend to friends!!
Though the service was wonderful the food was meh. The dessert I had was yummy (brownie with ice cream), but that was the only food item I enjoyed. It was a bit tight in there I felt as if people of different parties were sitting quite close to one another. So if you don't enjoy rubbing elbows you may want to rethink or just go when it's not busy.
Great midtown place for seafood. Extensive menu of fresh seafood items.
Great fish- everything tasted fresh. The glazed brussel sprouts were so good!!
Inattentive service. Came for birthday celebration. The host curtly said happy birthday as he was seating us. Then he rudely said something about not liking birthdays and asked why would we indicate we wanted something about birthday. Then we had to ask to be served so that someone would take our order. That person took the wrong order. Small things like making sure our glasses had water in them, they were completely inattentive to and we had to ask several times for. The food itself was ok but the overall experience was mediocre at best.
A wonderful dinner experience (first time @ Grillfish). Dinner room was elegant with very tall ceilings, nice crowd & medium noise level. Service by Anthony was outstanding .. he patiently explained the menu options, not rushing us and was very attentive.
Food was very good to excellent. Fish soup was superb with lots of fish chunks, half shell oysters was fresh, shrimp scampi was a yummy creamy version loaded with lots of crunchy shrimps. Mixed grill though good but lacked the wow factor. Brownie sundae was decadent and key lime pie was delicious. Botini Merlot from Mendoza was jammy & a good buy.
Will recommend & come back again.
What a spectacular meal! We were fortunate to dine during restaurant week, or I may not have opted for the works (appetizer, main and dessert). Soooo glad I did ... the food was divine! The seasonal oysters were a rare treat for me (can’t get them where I live, the grilled salmon with Brussels sprouts were exceptional and cooked to perfection, and the brownie dessert was scrumptious. I say again - the Brussels sprouts - roasted, with a maple pecan glaze, were out of this world! I was worried when I arrived that it would be too loud to talk, but we had no issues at all. Fantastic, appropriately attentive service. I haven’t dined at Grillfish for several years and have been wondering why I haven’t returned more regularly - I have a renewed intention to do so now!!
Was there for restaurant week! Loved the menu ! If you are looking for good seafood come here!!!!!!
For our group of four, the food was interesting (mostly seafood, obviously), perfectly cooked, with reasonably generous servings. Service was friendly and prompt. Pleasant ambience. We will gladly return here on a future visit to DC.
Nice bar incl oysters. Nice menu primarily with fish and shellfish. Reasonable prices
Food was great but the service was even better. Nick was very attentive, knowledgeable, friendly and an all around pleasure to have as a server. It’s shocking that he was still training. Nonetheless we’ll be back again as promised for some dessert.
Katie is amazing, as is Bree and the greeter at the front door - EVERY TIME! No place we'd rather eat in DC...
Our waiter helped us decide on food - one shrimp piccata and one shrimp piccata with the sauce subbed out for creamy white wine sauce from a different dish. Both were delicious and exactly what we wanted. We had the crab cake appetizer, which was tasty but I wish it was served flatter so that it got more of the crispiness from the broil on the outside. Ambience is a little basic / old fashioned but I come for the food, not the walls. The waiter seemed to get slammed at the end of our meal so we were waiting around for several minutes with empty plates and cards in-hand. The manager seemed to notice us but was too busy running food out from the kitchen. A small hiccup to an otherwise lovely dining experience.
I just can’t go wrong. 22 years and this is how perfection is done. Excellent. From the Stoli Doli to the fresh Rockfish. What a delight. As always, our serve had and educated answer for any menu questions. What an evening. If I was told that I could only eat at one restaurant in Washington DC then every meal would be at Grillfish. 5 STARS
