We are the first restaurant to partner in Washington, D.C. with the Monterey Bay Aquarium's Seafood Watch program, ensuring safe and environmentally friendly seafood as part of our cuisine.
Our setting is unmatched and the best casual, neighborhood dining in the West End. The bar is ornately decorated with massive mirrors, large columns and a multitude of glowing candles. These, along with the open kitchen where flames leap from the grill, create a warmth and intimacy in a casual atmosphere.
No. We were given a poor table. I could not sit across from my son because I would be right next to people seated at a table next to us. The MD was brusque and not worth the money to sit staring at the people seated so close to us. Greed has a way of infiltrating even Easter.
The food and service was AMAZING! I only wish wish I had more. I was given 2 shrimp and 2 scallops on my plate. I wanted more especially for the price.
Great experience from greeting to service. Food was incredible. Price was decent for a seafood restaurant. It was really unique that they have their own farm for fresh vegetables. Would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a great seafood restaurant and at great price while being able to talk without screaming.
Good food, the portion sizes is the only reason I didn’t give a five star rating.
Soft-shell crabs were 'paper shells' meaning beyond the soft stage and chewy - I wouldn't have expected this on Chesapeake Bay. Oddly list striped bass as "rockfish" and "striped bass" on the same menu, which the waiter clarified was farmed vs wild. Lots of farmed stuff on the menu, which is a big turn off for me - there are plenty of sustainable wild fish around here!
This place has really good seafood! I got lobster on top of a plate of linguini and it was delicious. Highly recommend.
Grillfish was a lovely restaurant for a family dinner. The oysters were especially good!
The lunch I had here recently was just ok. Service was pretty good. There didn’t seem to be any lunch specials. I ordered fish and chips, & it was just ok. I expected the fried fish to be better—very fried & the fish was bland, lacking flavor. For the lunch cost ($17+ for fish & chips), I think there are better options.
Excellent seafood. Our wait person was friendly, attentive and knowledgeable.
This used to be one of our favorite spots in DC. Not do anymore. The quality of food went down significantly since our visit last year. Out of the 6 dishes we ordered to share only salads and scallops were good (bread too, actually). The rest, mediocre.
Friendly service with knowledgeable staff. The oysters were fresh and delicious. Had the crab stack for dinner. The soft shelled crab was good but the crab cake only average since it had no limp crab meat.
food was not up to ratings. shrimp dry or over cooked, scallops bad just an overall bad food.
We dine here weekly (every Sunday night) when we could go anywhere in DC, MD or VA. The food, service and ambiance are all flawless EVERY SINGLE TIME. Where else can you go weekly and be pampered, indulged, treated and greeted as if you're the most important person in the place? If you like fish, this is your spot. It's certainly ours.
Thank you so much for the kind words, and we look forward to serving you every Sunday! :)
My boyfriend and I were in DC this weekend for the Cherry Blossom Festival and my birthday. I had the Shrimp Scampi. It was awesome! My boyfriend had the catfish. He loved it! Our server was great! He surprised me with dessert with a sparkler for my birthday! What a wonderful way to end the meal! Highly recommend for the food and service!
Thank you so much for coming in while you were visiting DC. I hope we see you again the next time you are in town.
Overall it was wonderful. Food was delicious and service was really great. We dined outdoors and were accommodated with our medium sized, well behaved puppy. The host or manager brought out a bowl of water for her. Wait staff was very knowledgeable and quick. Quality of food was great- We had the Bronzino special, the Mixed Grill, and the delicious mussels as the appetizer in the creamy garlic and wine. We will definitely return next time we are in the DC area.
Thank you so much for coming in and enjoying our wonderful patio. I hope that we see you and the puppy again.
We had a really nice waiter & our food was very good:)
Thank you for the review.
Service at the bar was somewhat slow. Dining was great. Shrimp Scampi was delicious. I would highly recommend this restaurant.
I am glad to hear that all was well, even with the slower service. I hope you give us another chance. Thank you.
Everyone in our party liked it except my non-seafood person, who had the chicken piccata. My mahi mahi was delicious with the sweet onion dipping sauce. Crab cake appetizer only had one crab cake.
Central meet-up with a group of friends.
Lovely strong seafood restaurant with outdoor seating!
Thank you for the review.
Service was excellent however you dont get much food for the price you pay. The drinks are pretty good but pricey. 1 time is enough for me
I am sorry to hear that. Please contact us so that we may rectify this problem.
This place is so wonderful. Delicious food, romantic vibes, attentive wait staff! Top drawer experience
We had an amazing dinner with zero issues. The food was fantastic and the service was great.
Fish was excellent.
Brussell sprouts were delicious but they were very heavy in stomach afterwards.
Thank you for the review. Please try us again with our new spring vegetables.
It had been a while since I went to this spot and chose it to stay near DuPont. The server was very kind, but got the order wrong and my water glass was empty most of the time while I sat at the table. Must say my friend and I were quite disappointed with the food as it was quite salty. We started with crab deviled eggs to start which were tasty and I recommend. For our main dishes, I ordered the chorizo & kale brunch plate and my friend ordered the smoked salmon benedict. The waiter brought my friend a burger so we wound up waiting until she received her proper meal about 10 minutes later. We both felt a bit ill afterward when taking a walk around town. I won't be returning to the restaurant that I once used to frequent.
I am sorry your experience did not go well. I know that we took care of one of the meals due to the concerns you had. Please call us to help to rectify this, so that we make sure to help improve our service and food. Thank you.
My first visit to Grillfish. Our server, Crystal, was very good and the Maitre D was very pleasant and friendly. I orderd the Shore Platter which was underwhelming; 2 shrimps, 2 scallops and a piece of halibut. I did order the crab cake appetizer which was very good. If I return, I will try something different.
Thank you for the review, and please do come back to try some of our other entrees.
I try to eat at Grillfish when I'm in DC. They know they're fish and it's always cooked inventively and well. This was my husband's first time at Grillfish. He had the kebobs with fish, scallops and shrimp. He really liked it but said he wished there was more the the red curry sauce on the plate. Next time I'm in DC I will go back to Grillfish.
Thank you for your loyalty, and we look forward to seeing you again.
Grillfish has some delicious items on the menu. The fish soup was rich with big chunks of fish. My sandwich (whiting) was good - a bit heavy on the mayo but otherwise OK. I couldn't eat much of the fish (bad stomach that day) so the waitress very kindly offered us a free appetizer (scallops ) which were very good.
I like this restaurant and will come again, particularly for the service.
Thank you for the review, and we hope you come back when you are feeling better. Save room for dessert, it will be on us :)
This little diner is a special place. It’s unassuming entrance does not prepare you for the delights you are about to experience. We started with drinks and raw oysters at the bar while waiting on our table since we arrived early for our reservation. We were notified promptly when our table was ready. The place is cozy so you will need to be cordial to your new dining companions. We were lucky and had wonderful conversation with our neighbors. Conversations mostly concerning the food and how wonderful it was. The beet salad was amazing as agreed upon by both tables. The entree fish and seafood was fresh and cooked nicely. Our servers were attentive but not annoying. We had nice conversations with the manager Tony, as well as the host.. both delightful. All in all , our experience at dinner was quite memorable. So much so we had lunch there the next day. Again, the experience was delightful. Of course, we had the beet salad and tried the swordfish tacos. If you are visiting DC or live there .. this place is worth a visit or two ..
Thank you for the response and kind words, and we look for to seeing you again.
Dinner was on a whim. Just happened to find this quaint little place just down the street from our hotel. Alfred was awesome as was our server. Food was very good. Salad was fresh and tasty. Would recommend when in Georgetown.
Tuna overdone. Toilets were having an issue. It was just ok. Not great. There are much better venues for seafood.
The service was awesome. We had a large group and they split the check without giving us any issue and it was an easy transaction. They were also very accommodating when extra people showed up. The food was great. The only somewhat negative thing is it gets very loud for a restaurant but I’m not sure why! Overall great experience!
Thank you for the great review, and glad to hear you had an enjoyable experience.
It was a great time with an amazing overall experience!
Thank you and please come back.
Good food and service. Great atmosphere.
The jerk mahi mahi did not have a lot of flavor and service was pretty slow.
Wonderful from start to finish! The fish was fresh and delicious. Service was excellent. Great dessert too!
It was our first visit to this 23 year old DC gem in many years. Even better than we remembered! We ordered the simply prepared mixed grill featuring a chunk of salmon, mahi-mahi, rockfish, a scallop and some shrimp, and our waiter Maya took care of everything else! The subject of the giant frescoes behind the bar remain a mystery, but it was great to see how much the wax "fountains" have grown from those romantic candles that illuminate them.
Superb dining experience! Kudos to the chef and rest of the staff!
Saw you add and decided to try your restaurant out. Pleasantly surprised food was very good and the atmosphere was very relaxing
Thank you for giving us a try, and we hope to see you again soon.
Girls night out...dinner was great!!
