Our setting is unmatched and the best casual, neighborhood dining in the West End. The bar is ornately decorated with massive mirrors, large columns and a multitude of glowing candles. These, along with the open kitchen where flames leap from the grill, create a warmth and intimacy in a casual atmosphere.
The first is located at 1110 New Hampshire Ave. NW less than one block from the restaurant. The Garage is open Monday through Wednesday until 10 pm and Thursday through Saturday until 12 Midnight. Great happy hour. Good seafood at a decent price. Friendly staff.
Excellent food! They never disappoint. I had scallops and they were absolutely amazing.
Grillfish is a great business lunch place. Quiet, good food, and attentive service.
Our group ordered three types of fish and it was all delicious. I think the asparagus should have been cut shorter but... I’m a picky eater...
I was very disappointed. One of the sauces for the fish had so much corn starch in it that it coagulated. Portions were nothing to write home about. All in all-Meh!
Great food and service. I was seated right away and the menu had lots of great seafood options. The swordfish was delicious.
My husband and I were visiting and looking for a nice place near our hotel. We took and chance and were rewarded with a short walk and a delicious meal. The soft-shell crabs were amazing and my husband's fish was wonderful. We shared a drool-worthy brownie sundae. This is not to be missed, but could be shared by 3-4 people.
Grillfish did an amazing job accommodating our large party for brunch. There was no wait to be seated, our waitress Katie was very attentive and the food was delicious.
Food was great
We were in DC on college tours with our daughter, and our anniversary fell during the trip. We hadn’t made reservations before we arrived in DC, but we found a recommendation for Grillfish and learned that it was just around the corner from our hotel. When I made the reservation on OpenTable, I mentioned in the comments section that it was our anniversary, and I asked to be seated (if possible) in a location away from the server flow. When we arrived, they greeted us with “Happy Anniversary!” and seated us at a lovely table. (The restaurant was at least 3/4 full when we arrived at 7:00 and was packed by the time we left). The food was delicious, the service perfect, and the house treated us to dessert! Celebrating #23 couldn’t have been better! ❤️🎉
Quality and amount of food was less than expected for the price! I used to love this place but won’t be going back anytime soon. Service was great just expected larger portion and better quality for the price paid.
This was our 40th Anniversary. I thought it would be quaint. The condiments for the raw oysters needed some acid and heat. I ordered the shore platter and I kid you not, it was the last thing left in the grease I’m sure. It was overly fried and dark. I figured it would be light and crispy. My husband ordered linguini that came out in a frying pan, really. Maybe it wasn’t the right night for us.
Our family had a wonderful experience, great food and the service couldn't have been better, and would highly recommend Grillfish in D.C.
Grillfish is a nice, busy, restaurant. But it could be better. The server, while polite, didn't know much about fish or other types of seafood. The fish was a little overcooked. Not terrible but a good fish restaurant doesn't overcook its primary dishes. Wine list was a little shallow and quite high priced. $44 for a ten dollar bottle of wine? Really.
Fun wait staff, meals were excellent. Satisfied but not stuffed. Loved chocolate martini.
Great seafood and excellent service! Ask for Wind, he's the best server I've had in a long time.
I have been to Grillfish a number of times over the years. I have never failed to have an excellent meal there. The seafood is always cooked perfectly and the side dishes are all equally tasty.
The restaurant has a great mixture of feeling both casual and yet still classy at the same time. Service is very good, unobtrusive, and timely. There is the sound of other conversations taking place, but it is not so noisy that you can't be heard speaking across a table.
Grillfish will continue to be one of my go to places when I want to have a good meal, in an upscale restaurant, that is relaxed, and won't break the bank.
We all got seafood dishes, and the food was really great. Our waitress, Katie, was phenomenal and provided a lot of insight into the dishes. we will definitely be back!
Good place if you want fish simple - just grilled. My wife is gluten and dairy free so just having grilled fish and vegetables is hard to find sometimes. Fish was good though will say the service was excellent.
Smoky and loud, the delicate taste of the soft shell crab lost under a half inch coating of gooey batter. Unpleasant experience and would never go back.
Great Food and a Great evening out. Really enjoyed grillfish!
Excellent, service food and price! Searched google for new restaurants and this popped up and we had no regrets
We’ve been to Grillfish on a previous trip to D.C. and it was great. This time, the service was just average and the food didn’t wow us. For the money, we expected something better.
Hadn’t been to Grillfrish in several years. Was very pleased the experience was delightful.
Our appetizer arrived quickly. The special cocktail of the day - Tamarind Ginger Margarita - was very tasty. And our entrees were generous and well-prepared. The server was helpful and friendly, available for any needs but unobtrusive. A lovely evening!
Love this place when in DC
Enjoyed our meal at Grillfish. Food was outstanding. Service was okay. Ambiance/noise-level was a little loud for my taste, even though the dining room was only 3/4 full.
Service was slow and place was not busy.
I was a bit disappointed after seeing the high open table review for this restaurant. The fish was fresh and the food overall decent, but the service and ambiance was a bit off. It took almost 10 minutes of us just sitting at our table for us to get water and order drinks, and drinks took about 10 minutes to arrive at the table. After the initial delay, our server made an effort to be attentive and our meals arrived quickly. It's worth noting the limited 'sauces' offered for the grilled fish menu. All three options were catering to individuals that like heavy sauce on their fish. It would be great if they could offer a spiced grilled fish or simple fish with a lemon sauce for those that don't want a heavy sauce, particularly in hot weather. Finally, the setting is a bit bizarre since the neon sign and outside give the appearance of a modern restaurant but the inside is filled with faux greco-roman columns and decor. Really strange since some of their fish dishes are clearly asian-inspired (coconut-curry sauce, ginger calamari), rather than light and simple fish dishes found in both Greece and Italy. We came here after winning a gift certificate in a raffle, without another I can't imagine returning given the other restaurants we could choose in DC.
I was unimpressed with our table and how uncomfortable and small it was for 2 although I made a reservation. I noticed other tables of 2 with larger tables while we squeezed into one. The staff didn't seem to like that we'd turned the table to sit us both in the booth but we have a right to be comfortable also. I feel like the service was sub par. The wine list was not presented and the special menu for the night was not explained. We definitely would have bought alcohol had we known more of their cocktail list so all I had was lemonade & water. Overall the food was fantastic from beginning to end but I truly wish I'd had better service.
Was in Washington for the weekend. Had the most delicious dinner. Our table was ready when we got there. Our server was wonderful! Will definitely recommend to our friends!
Eclectic decor, you don't feel you need to be a DC "suit" to eat here and get the freshest seafood. Very reasonable wine list with knowledgeable wait staff. Felt like we were treated like family
I ordered the scallops, which were market priced at 35 dollars . I expected the tastiest scallops as i assumed i was paying for fresh scallops. They came in a delicious lime buttee sauce. However the scallops were slightly overcooked and no taste beyond the sauce. Service was okay.
Excellent food and service. Am from out-of-town but would return again if we visit DC again. Could not have gone better.
Excellent fresh fish at a great value. Many excellent choices available on the menu! I would highly recommend this restaurant!
Overall, Grillfish D.C. was very good. The food was fresh, well presented and it had a varied menu. Enjoyed it very much and would probably go back again the next time in D.C.
This was my second visit to Grillfish and it was exceptional again. We were a few minutes early that didn’t phase them at all. The food was excellent, as was the wine. We shared the Buffalo shrimp to start which was really good and definitely a highlight. The mixed seafood pasta I had for main course was as good as ever. Definitely a place to visit in DC. Possibly wouldn’t bring my kids though as my kids aren’t the most adventurous of eaters!
Always one of my favorites while visiting family in DC.
I loved the food and service have eaten there many times, but I won’t be back, because of their aggressive campaign to get their customers to vote no on Ballot Initiative 77 to provide a minimum wage for tipped workers. It inappropriate to force this view on their customers, when there isn’t the opportunity for education on the other side. A debate can be had, but this isn’t the way to do it.
