Our setting is unmatched and the best casual, neighborhood dining in the West End. The bar is ornately decorated with massive mirrors, large columns and a multitude of glowing candles. These, along with the open kitchen where flames leap from the grill, create a warmth and intimacy in a casual atmosphere.
The first is located at 1110 New Hampshire Ave. NW less than one block from the restaurant. The Garage is open Monday through Wednesday until 10 pm and Thursday through Saturday until 12 Midnight. Sunday the garage closes at 8 pm. If the garage is full or if you're dining with us on Sunday there is another PMI garage at 2300 M St. NW. This is two blocks away from the restaurant and is open 7 days a week until 12 midnight.
Blue/Orange Line -Foggy Bottom/GWU. Go left toward Washington Circle. Walk across Washington Circle to New Hampshire Ave. Walk 2 blocks on New Hampshire to the corner of New Hampshire & M St.
Great restaurant with fresh Italian and seafood dishes and good wine selection. Service is excellent.
Happy hour only allowed at bar and we were there for dinner so same beverage more expensive at a table. Weird and disappointing from a value perspective. Bar was full and tables empty.
Time for owner to change this up.
Otherwise great place.
A conveniently located and nicely decorated restaurant. The service was attentive though the waiter made an error with my meal. The down sides: There was a Strong fish smell in the restaurant. My lunch salad was expensive for what was served. $17.50, and the amount of salad was about the size of a smallside salad. The salmon on top was juicy but didn't taste fresh. So overall a disappointing experience. I felt the value not great. The service and ambience were fine. It may be an anomaly since this place as well reviewed in general.
Service was great, food was great, birthday dessert came with a sparkler and no singing which I thought was lovely.
Food was excellent, pineapple carrot cake was to die for.
Ambiance is great. Lots of interesting options on the menu. Food was good. Sauces were excellent.
Great food! Highly recommend the grilled seafood for two! It was delicious!
Katie and Bree are outstanding; the fish is always perfectly cooked and fresh. The apple crisp is not to be missed.
We went there to Celebrate our 20th anniversary! Everyone was exceptionally friendly and accommodating from the moment we walked in the restaurant! Tony was our waiter. He was amazing. The food was delicious and easily accosted my gluten allergy and other food intolerances. It was a very special dinner and we would definitely go back whenever we’re in town.
Food came out cold
Always have great experiences here, I’ve been many times. The place I go when I want seafood pasta and the like
Excellent service and food . Impressive selections and quality choices . Wait staff extremely attentive .
Had the grilled fish skewers for two. The fra Diavlo sauce was perfect with linguine.
Food and service was phenomenal. Highly recommended and we will definitely be back!
Good food, nice ambience. Our Family enjoyed it.
We had previously been to Grillfish and very much liked the place. This time everything seemed to go wrong. Our server did not seem to understand the menu. She did not inquire about choices I had to make (kind of sauce etc), and, in the end made a mistake with the order. As we were going to a concert I took to wrong food. My wife had swordfish that alas and little flavor. It was an unfortunate evening in every way.
In town for a meeting and looking for somewhere close where I could get a quick bit. Nice place. The greeter was concerned with enough space, so she seated me on the patio on a beautiful fall day. Service was prompt. The food was very good.
Excellent service. Entree's were very good. We had the grilled rockfish and linguini with lobster.
Could use a more extensive listing of cocktails. Decent wine list. Overall, a very worthwhile meal and experience.
Everything was absolutely delicious! We started with the oysters, which were the perfect combination of briney with a hint of citrus. We then had the seafood chowder which was perfectly seasoned, no salt or pepper needed. We had the swordfish and the mixed grill, both were amazing. To top it off we went with the chocolate cake, very satisfying ending to an amazing meal. We had a big table behind us that was a little noisy and sometimes very loud. The place is on the smaller side with a great ambience. Overall...phenomenal! Highly recommend this place.
It's not everyday that you can dine at a restaurant that serves excellent grilled ginger calamari. It was prepared with love and perfection.
We went to this restaurant before attending a play at the Constitution Hall nearby. Parking was easy (parking lot next door with reasonable rates). The service was great and the food was delicious. Will definitely return in the near future!
Great food and great service! I recommend this restaurant to everyone. I'm a resident of DC and this is definitely one of my favorite places to dine.
We started with the happy hour at the bar which was average. I ordered some oysters. They tasted fine but the size varied considerably.
We were seated right behind the host counter when you come into the restaurant. For having a reservation, I was a little surprised that we didn’t have a better table since we arrived 45 minutes earlier than our dinner reservation.
The waitress wasn’t particularly friendly. She was all business. No specials, no inquiry for our birthday celebration.
I had a seafood pasta dish and my wife had the rainbow trout. They were decent but not particularly memorable.
Great service (Chris) but the food was really bland and underwhelming and priced at a premium.
Great Happy Hour for drinks and for small plates.
We had the full menu the first night, and we're so impressed with the Happy Hour Menu that we returned for a second time. We were not disappointed.
Food was good. Waiter was very inattentive and forgot our drinks and messed up our food order. Buffalo Shrimp and mixed grill were very good.
Restaurant was just okay. The seating is too crowded in the space and the noise level very high. For some reason it was very warm I side too. Food is good. Server seemed a bit frazzled but she did a nice job overall.
Posillico was our server and was great, he was very attentive and helpful with both the bar and food menus. highly recommend
Grillfish was great! I have a lot of food allergies and the waiter put me at ease and the kitchen delivered a delicious meal! I would definitely visit again.
For fish in the Dupont area, this is the place. Casual elegance. Fine ingredients. Don't miss dessert
So disappointing. Arrived early to take advantage of happy hour and manager kept trying to seat us well before our reservation.
Once seated, wait staff was competent but appetizer and entrees (all seafood -- scallops, shrimp and trout) were over-cooked. Mashed potatoes had turned to gluten.
The food was excellent. I decor reminded me of the Roman Ruins.
I have been coming to Grillfish since 2000, and it is consistently excellent. On my most recent visit, I took my wife and daughter and my brother and his wife visiting from out of town. Everything from the bread (crispy crust, soft on the inside, with great herb butter) to the coffee and dessert were excellent. I don't live in DC and only get to come to Grillfish every few months, so I always end up eating the fabulous Arctic Char with the sweet onion sauce. My daughter had that also, but she always gets some of ALL the sauces. My brother and sister-in-law had the Mahi Mahi, which they raved about. My wife had Rockfish with a new sauce the waiter recommended--she loved it. The sides (mashed potatoes, roasted vegetables) and desserts (Crème Brûlée cheesecake and carrot cake with vanilla ice cream) were excellent as well. I always get a great waiter at Grillfish, and Saturday Night was no exception. This is--bar none--my favorite restaurant in the DC area.
Really enjoyed the food and the service.
Nice surprise. Great food. Very good service. Nice neighborhood ambiance. Excellent striped bass
We had great food and service! I went with my husband and 7 year old son. I was very pleased. Definitely will stop by again soon.
We arrived in town at dinner time and were staying a few minutes walk from the Catfish. Since it was highly rated, we made our reservation and had a delightful meal of lobster hush puppies and the mixed grill, with sides of asparagus and cole slaw. We were received nicely, seated quickly and served with grace and ease.
The Calamari & Shore Platters were greasy. Chris P. , thank you for the wonderful service!
We have dined in many establishments from diners to Five Star restaurants. We have never experienced worse service. The waitress was rude and surly. She actually threw the butter plate on the table as she said sorry. Refused to clear plates. Refused to bring water. Intentionally refused service. She did all she could to make it an unpleasant experience. Unbelievable. And no relief from manager or coworkers who were observing the entire charade. Apparently this is standard treatment. This type of non-service can only happen if the management condones it. The subpar food was overshadowed by the abusive service. We were glad to leave. Do not ever go there. We won’t again. I don’t usually rate restaurants but the poor experience deserves the effort. People should know what they are in for.
The service and cuisine was excellent, not pretentious, with one of the managers Julian checking in on us.
