Grille No. 43 Ratings and Reviews
Had our Anniversary there last year. Service was much better. Acknowledged our Anniversary which was in the notes on Open Table then and now. Last year got a wonderful dessert. Nothing this year. Food was pretty good but very slow. Will not do another anniversary or anything else again. Sad.
Specific experiences - arrived at five thirty no hostess for two mins. Neither my drink nor my water was ever refilled and no offer to be refilled. The “everything” salad had two bits of chicken, I know this sounds hard to believe and it was for me too and a deciding factor in writing this place off. The veal appetizer was terrible. The check included a house salad that I had changed my mind during ordering and never received. The time it took to get an appetizer, a salad, and the sole drink was two hours.
Place is quite noisy with swearing loud women at the bar on a Friday. so loud it was difficult to hear the specials. I have had previous decent experiences here but thinking about it now even the bread was lousy. This is my first time reviewing a restaurant anywhere that was so horrible I will not return.
Been at Grill on 43 a number of times, but tonight was not good, Steak and crab was embarrassing (business associate from out of town) small piece of meat like from Ponderosa and little scoop of crab cake, the jerk chicken was dry. My wife had the drunken shrimp and had no complaints
Our experience was fantastic. After a long day we were greeted by a friendly hostess who brought us to an out of the way corner table. Server was welcoming and nice. She was enthusiastic about the food and even got our early bird appetizers and wine order in with 5 minutes to spare. Food was great. Only regret was between soup, appetizer and entrees no room for desert. We will be back.
This is our neighborhood go-to. We have been thoroughly enjoying lately since the change in chefs. Food is very flavorful and creative, right down to flavored butters and wonderful bread. James Beard Mushroom burger - amazing! Fish is always done to a turn. Grilled peach salad with frizzy lettuce -hmmm. And on. It's worth a trip to this funky location for the delicious nad thoughtfully prepared food.
Service is top-notch. Professional, thorough, friendly and NOT stiff!
I would underscore that the ONLY negative is the noise level. There are steps that could easily be taken to correct this. The bartender (owner?) has a Booming voice and it carries through this relatively small space. The kitchen service door should remain closed and clattering of dishes being cleared needs to be done with regard to diners. Sound baffles would really help. The TV monitors are with no sound and discreetly tucked in corners which works well but I guess disqualifies it from catagory of romantic-but we've had many an intimate dinner there!
Hope you can experience this hidden gem.
Evidently the original chef is back after a hiatus. Very inpressive with delicious food. Had the Avocado Toast for starter which comes with a poached egg. Then the brusselsprout salad was fanatastic. But best was the BLT with amazing Wisconsin bacon and fried green tomatoes. A sandwich I will be back for. The rustic hardy side of fries was great to pair with the sandwich. Yummy! I look forward to my next visit.
I made a reservation for my boyfriend's birthday. It wasn't even acknowledged that it was his birthday. Food was a bit pricey, and my steak was very chewy. My boyfriend's steak was cooked well though! Beer was good. Food came out plated very nicely. I was a bit disappointed here.
I don't know why there wasn't a line out the door waiting for a table. This a New York cutting edge sensibility that's affordable. Chef Paul's creations were outstanding. We decided not to order a main dish, but try several very unusual appetizers instead. They were all amazing. Each ingredient rang out like a bell.
Here's where people either get it or they don't. If you're not a foodie, you won't appreciate how special this place is.
Both my friend and I were very disappointed with the new menu. We miss some favorite items (pulled pork, cod fish tacos, steak frites to name a few), and the Drunken Shrimp (which had always been 5 huge and delicious shrimp easily serving two people as an appetizer) has been downsized to 3 small unsatisfying pieces. Although the price reflected the smaller portion, the actual size of each shrimp should be reflected in a new name: Shrunken Shrimp. Unbelievably, we were brought one small piece of stale bread for two people to split. This has always been one of our favorite local spots and we have been coming here twice a month for years; I hope the nightly specials can fill the gaps in the abbreviated new menu, and that portions do not continue to shrink.
I used to love Grille No. 43- they had a diversified menu and the "43 Chop" salad was a favorite of mine and many of my friends/colleagues. However, on June 2nd, I was extremely disappointed to learn they had changed their menu due to a new chef. the 43 Chop salad was removed, as were the excellent Quesadillas and a few other very good salads. The remaining items on the menu are less classic in nature, and most have foo foo, trendy ingredients which most normal people have to ask the server what they are. I was not happy with what I ordered this last time (pork belly sandwich) - it was smothered in sauce and coleslaw-type accent. I can tell you that unless they bring back some of the old favorites, I do not plan to dine there again. Plenty of other choices in the area.
This was our first time dining here. We were able to make a quick reservation early and stopped by after hearing good reviews from other friends. The service was great and friendly. The food was very good with a unique menu. We had the pear and pecorino ravioli and salmon entree and both were delicious . And I'd recommend the calamari appetizer! Nice wine selection also. The server told us they have a new chef so the menu is new. I'd recommend this for a nice meal!
Service was awful, food was cold and had obviously been sitting a long time, special was grilled cheese (which two people had) and it was burned (black all over). This was the second time I was there and was very disappointed in the food, quality and service.
We went in a small group from work for lunch. There is no separate lunch menu, so you need to stick to dinner size portions, which was too much. They are also priced like for dinner, so it turned to be one of the more expensive lunches I had. The decor is rather simplistic, more casual and appropriate for lunch spot, so it clashes with "the dinner for lunch menu" approach. I ordered fish tacos, which were very good and my friends were complementing food also. Overall food is good but overpriced and the place has no identity. Also, a parking lot is small but they provide complementary valet.
It was my first time at Grille 43. I attended a business lunch with 2 others. The place is not a large restaurant. The prices are a bit high, we thought. The cheapest burger was $14. All the entrees were over $20. The food was good, as was the service. My biggest concern was that the restaurant was really loud. We were sitting in a booth and at times we found it hard to talk. Even the waitress couldn't hear us very well. It was okay, but I wouldn't choose it again, over the myriad of other places in the area, most of which are cheaper.
