Grille & Pub at Hartefeld National Ratings and Reviews
We ordered the cheese plate appetizer. It was brought out to us without any explanation. There were 3 cheeses ( no idea what they were), crackers, 1 olive, a few berries & a mysterious white block about 2" x 2". After trying to cut the block numerous times, we waved the waiter over to ask him what it was & told him it was impossible to eat. He had to ask the chef. When he returned he told us it was a block of white chocolate. We suggested that they not add the "mystery block" again since it was impossible to eat. The rest of the meal was good and the service was fine. I do have to say that the mystery cheese tray gave us a good laugh and provided humorous dinner conversation for the rest of the evening.
We had dinner there for the first time this year. The menu did have a lot of choices. I had the crab and shrimp flat bread and was underwhelmed. The shrimp were small and tasted previously frozen. The crab meat was all on one corner, rather than scattered throughout the dish. There was far too much cheese - it overwhelmed the dish. My husband was very happy with his hamburger and side of fruit. I had the lemon drop martini - it was a bit sweeter than I would like, but it was very "summer-y" and refreshing. The previous times we have eaten here I have always enjoyed my meal. Just not a great choice this time. Our server was very good - attentive without being pushy.
My parents live in Avondale & had never been to Hartefeld. I thought dinner on the patio would be a wonderful way to celebrate. We were seated right away, drink orders taken, dinner served promptly. My parents were please with their meals. But as the patio & restaurant filled up the service disappeared. We asked for dessert menus and 7 minutes later the waitress came back to the table to say they don't have menus but a dessert tray instead BUT she couldn't find it so she told us what desserts they did offer & we ordered. Then we waited and waited. The band was warming up and we wanted to leave. After 15 minutes I went to the hostess stand to ask them to find our waitress & bring our bill. Our dinner ended on a sour note.
We showed up 20 minutes early (for lunch) and despite 2 attempts to call and update our reservation on the open table phone app, they still didn't get it and so weren't ready. They warned us the food service might take a while because of all the other parties but the place was not half full and most folks had a reservation. Food took over an hour for sandwiches and salads. My question is how do you not prepare for 50% capacity and knowing the number of folks coming through reservations.
Our server was excellent and did her best to keep us satisfied with drinks.
Being a special day we made the most of the weather and company. We were the last party to leave the restaurant.
Went to Hartefeld for family Prime Rib night and glad we did! Food and service was excellent! Portion size was good so we had no room for dessert. this place is cozy and quiet enough to have a good dinner conversation. Can't wait till the outdoor seating opens up when the weather warms up because the view and atmosphere is great! Bands play good music and outdoor lights make it a wonderful place to be if beach travel isn't your thing.
We eat here often and are never disappointed. The food is always good and the atmosphere is very nice, yet still good for kids; great kids menu. Although the restaurant is part of Hartefeld National Golf Club, it is open to the public and the service is always friendly whether you are a club member or not. I had the filet mignon special which was relatively expensive but pretty good; and I have eaten at many good steak houses. My wife had the Chicken Milanese and it too was good. Now typically the service is friendly but very slow. So we always go prepared knowing that the dining experience is going to take a little longer than usual. However, the service on New Year's was relatively quick that night.
This is a neighborhood establishment for those living close by and a good go to spot. The night we were there, a private function was taking place in the bar/informal dining room that was a little loud , but impacted service in the main dining room to cause very slow service and a very busy waitress. The food was good as usual. We had a group of six and two kids, 10 and 12, became very impatient .
Went to Hartefeld Pub to meet some friends for dinner on a Saturday night. Made reservations on Open Table site to ensure we had a table due to weekend crowds. Dinner was great with some fantastic specials that night. The wings were tasty and the entrees were all delicious. Later that night a band played and got the room going. Everybody had a good time. We eat there once a month and just sit at the Pub dining room. There is a formal dining room also for special night celebrations but I like to sometimes watch the games and be in a casual atmosphere. Try this place if you are in the area, summertime is great on the patio for dining and drinking. It overlooks the golf course which is beautiful!
Hartefeld had a busy nite last Friday and handled the crowd well. Mushroom Soup was a treat followed by entrees of Scallops ( Good but salty); New Garden Twp Surf and Turf, excellent combo and cooked just right. Then a Buffalo Wrap that was a good portion and tasty.
We sat outside, which the view is gorgeous, but our server was not attentive to us. We waited over an 1 1/2 hours for our meal which when it did come was good. At one point we actually stood to go to the bar to get another round of drinks.. Suddenly she appeared! Our server would avoid our table constantly passing us and never looking at our us.. Being a server myself I found it very disturbing..
My brothers, myself & our respective spouses enjoyed a very lovely dinner at Hartefeld. Our waitress was wonderful and quite attentive, the drinks were very good ... the dinner and desserts excellent. We were seated near a large window over-looking Hartefeld's beautiful golf course and the sun was setting behind a serene pond ... glorious. After dinner we strolled onto the patio, despite the warm evening there was a very nice breeze and a great group of musicians playing away. We look forward to returning ... perhaps for brunch or lunch ... most suredly for dinner.
We're seated outside; beautiful view of the golf course. Lovely evening. Our anniversary. On each table were placards that said that when in the dining area, children were to be at the tables, not beyond the cords marking off the golf course. Instead, children running all over! Somersaults on the grass; running behind our chairs, through the flower beds. It seemed normal to everyone else. Not what I expected with the prices. Food was fine; service was friendly and accommodating, but parental controls seemed to be out the window. The kids were having a ball and that was kind of sweet to see, but running behind our chairs? Maybe the members of the club are so used to being there that it's like home....but not one I'd visit again.
Bartender was great, very attentive, but the waitstaff was rather slow. This would have been understandable on a busy night, but it was quiet. Waiter was nice but somewhat inattentive. Saw other tables with bread plates but none on ours. Spent a long time waiting once seated and drink orders taken. Meals came out in stages with some of us finishing when other meals arrived. Overall, food was good. Crab dip was great, overal meals fine. Husband's steak was a tad overdone and salty. Fish and chips were very good, and dessert was decadent. Past reviewers dinged it on drink prices but we felt these weren't out of line. Overall, it was positive but the service made us question whether to go back if we are short on time or if it is busy.
The food was well prepared. The service was disappointing. Our young waiter either did not care about us or it seemed had not had any training in how to wait on a table! Hopefully he will get some guidance! Overall, we enjoyed our friends, the view and the food. We have had lunch here before and always enjoyed the food and service.
We dined on the newly expanded outdoor patio on a 70-degree spring day; brilliant sun, not a cloud in the sky, and the most fabulous views in southern Chester County. How could we not enjoy the meal? (Well, one of us thought the salmon sliders were way too bland and the rolls were mediocre. But the other two thought our meals were quite good.)
Hartefeld has had a spotty history with the quality of their food. But whoever is the new chef -- hats off! Over the past several months I've had several very, very good lunches. Sorry, haven't been there for dinner, but with the later sunsets, we'll be visiting the patio for outdoor dinners as well. We have also heard rave reviews of their Sunday Brunch.
Perfect place for Sunday brunch with the family. Nice selection on the buffet for both us and the kids. We get such GREAT Service each time we go to brunch from our server, very personable and informative, but has never been abtrusive ! The pub room is very relaxed for our family, we prefer it over the more formal sitting areas.
The Grille has the most beautiful golf course view, comfortable seating and an attentive staff. Unfortunately the food was a big disappointment.
I had a crab appetizer that was dry crab meat, not necessarily the freshest, on crostini, with a slice of avocado
and a chili (read spicy) cocktail sauce on the side. Almost inedible. The caesar salad was not remarkable. The onion soup was not hot, and the creme brulee was average.
Went for Sunday brunch - all you can eat buffet. Food was just OK - there were a lot of choices, and some things were great. But pancakes, french toast, and belgian waffles were not cooked enough. Seems like there should be a better layout for the brunch - rather than having the carving station with the waffle station, suggest splitting those up so it's clear what is available.
This has always been our meeting spot for dinner with my parents. We were there specifically there for our teenage son's birthday because he loves their chicken parmesian. He was devastated to find that the menu had changed and this was no longer being offered. Hartfeld was always a traditional pub type menu and there was really nothing else on the menu for him to eat. The surf and turf was a little piece of meat and two shrimp, so disappointing. Sadly, we will be choosing another restaurant for our dinner dates with the grandparents. Overall, we did not like the whole menu change and we will not be returning any time soon.
