Grille & Pub at Hartefeld National Ratings and Reviews
Food was great, view was great but the service was slow. We never got our wine with dinner until 1/2 way done and the manager came over to see if everything was okay. The wine was on the house. Otherwise, the meal was enjoyable and so was the view of the golf course.
A VALENTINE'S DAY TREAT: In the morning of Valentine's Day I asked my wife out to dinner. Easier said than done! After a few "We are all booked" calls, the "Grille & Pub at the Hartefeld Golf Club flashed in my brain. Whew! They were able to accommodate the two of us at 7:30 pm. We arrived twenty minutes early, but were promptly seated. Staff could not be nicer. "Tina" Our server " was very polite and did not miss anything. Mrs. had Filet Mignon with the "House Salad" and Anti Fusco (paired wine). Mr. had the Lobster Bisque, Seared Scallops and a "House Salad". Mrs. had the White Chocolate Mousse, Mr. the Strawberry Chocolate Mousse. To say the least a very favorable impression for a "last minute" Valentine's Day meal. A finer dinner could not be had!
The food was wonderful at Hartefeld and our waiter was excellent. BUT it was under construction and the dining room was not available, only the reception lobby which had very high pub tables and high stools which were most uncomfortable. (Another banquet room was being used for a private party.) I had used Open Table to make the reservation on Monday of that week. I was not informed about the construction by emailing me or calling me. When we got to the restaurant, we were very surprised about the condition of the place! I thought that maybe it just was that one section of the restaurant under construction. But no! I told the hostess (the girl at the reservation desk) my name and said we have reservations. She looked and stated that she did not have my name. I told her that I made the reservations through Open Table. Then she said, "Oh, our computer has been down and is not working." I said back to her, "It has not been working since Monday? This is Friday night!" Needless to say the evening did not start off to well. the only space they had was in the section lobby with the high tables. I was very disappointed. Even though the tables were high and very uncomfortable for 2 of us with bad backs, we decided to stay. thank goodness the food was wonderful if the surroundings were definitely not. I believe that a restaurant should let people AND Open Table know if they are under construction and space will be limited until the improvements are done. This information can be put on the website; I checked and it did not state it at all. It was extremely disappointing to fine it out after we got there. They have the email addresses and/or phone numbers to call or text that information if it is not stated ion the website.
Booked this on the fly looking for something after the Longwood Holiday Light show. We were looking more for a bar and burger joint, and were surprised to find out that it's a Golf Club Restaurant/Bar. It's in a residential area (didn't see the golf course in the dark) and kind of hard to figure out how to get in, after dark - plus there weren't many cars in the parking lot - we almost left thinking we were at the wrong place or that it was closed! Glad we stayed for a solid meal of appetizers and main courses. The service was great, not a lot of people at this time of day (6:30pm), but it started to pick up when we were leaving. Nice area to sit near a fireplace, or you can sit in the main room which I suspect has a great view of the golf course. The bar looked like a great place to hang out and eat and drink too.
I wish I could write a better review, since Hartefeld is close by and has a lot of potential due to the location and view, but the last visit was one of the worst we have had. The hostess informed us that there were no tables available outside even though there were 2 open during our entire meal (in the lower deck). Service was slow, we weren't greeted for at least 10 minutes before we were seated. Meals were ok, but not exceptional for the price. Cocktails have been the same for the last 6 months (we have been there several times in this time period), and not impressive. Loch Nairn has much better service without the attitude and food/cocktails are great. The diners on both sides of us complained about the meal and service to the manager, so I we weren't alone.
When I looked online at the brunch menu, no where did it indicate there was a special menu for Father's Day brunch. I assumed we would be getting the regular Sunday brunch. That was not the case and it was the worst food I have ever eaten! First of all, it was a very hot day and the food was served outside on the patio. I was afraid we were eating tainted food due to the heat and I couldn't see where they put anything on ice (e.g., deviled eggs were definitely not). The menu was some cowboy western meal with brisket and baked beans, not the carving station as I assumed. The brisket was fatty and tough and honestly, the only thing I ate was the salad, which was chopped romaine lettuce. The desserts were melty and gross looking due to them also sitting out in the heat. I will never eat here again nor will I recommend it to anyone. I wasted $96 and my husband's special day was less than memorable.
Met friends for dinner on a Sunday night. Not much of a crowd. Our server was friendly enough, but he got more things wrong than right. He skipped a soup appetizer order, got an entree wrong, and took forever to notice our bottle of wine was killed. He apologized several times, but never offered to do anything to help make it right. Food was good as usual, but the poor service was quite a disappointment.
We went in for Valentines Day "Brunch" the web site and the calendar both stated you could have the option of an all you can eat brunch buffet OR a selection via ala cart menu. We have been to the brunch buffet in the past and cancelled another reservation at another restaurant when an opening happened here. With that being said there was no option for the all you can eat brunch buffet and the ala cart selections were minimal at best . An egg bacon cheese sandwich on a le bus roll was over $9 - ridiculous. We were very disappointed that the expectations were not met and no apology was given.. when I asked the server why no buffet , he stated that " they were not offering that today" -- really ??? The only reason I give 1 star is because the bartender was very good and very attentive. Either fire your marketing person or correct your website prior to accepting reservations. To be fair we have been here at least 10 times in the past 2 years and have never had issue like this before ... Feel free to contact me directly if you want or need more input.
Good restaurant, welcoming and nice staff. We ordered the nachos and a salad for two people to share which were great but portions were gigantic. Felt like I wasted money when I could have just ordered one or the other. We didn't finish either. Of course pleased with "good value" but a warning from the staff that the portions were so large would have been greatly appreciated. Prosecco was also flat.
We tried out the Grille & Pub at Hartefeld National since we had a $25 Restaurant.com gift certificate, and we weren't disappointed. The food was excellent (Chicken Parm Alfredo and Mixed Grille), and the Cream of Mushroom Soup was great, using local ingredients. The wait staff were attentive without being obtrusive, and the party at the next table asked their waiter to take some group photos, which he was happy to do.
The prices were in line for a restaurant of this caliber, and the overall experience was excellent. I would definitely recommend this place for a special occasion, or when you just want to give yourself a treat!
We go to Hartefeld every couple of weeks. This visit was not a good visit. Our server was slow, did not bring requested items until the second or third request, we had to request water refills from other servers, and someone else actually brought us our final bill and too payment for it while the server messed around at the computer screen. The food was OK, but not up to its normal level.
We know that everyone and every place has off days. I just hope I'm not around for another one anytime soon.
We ate on the patio on a lovely late summer evening. We arrived about 5:45 and were seated promptly. The service was attentive, but not pushy, on the front end of our meal. As more and more tables were seated, the service level dropped off a bit. Not the waitress's fault - she was covering tables both inside and outside. They may need to have a few more wait staff, especially on a Saturday night. It took a while to have her come over and ask if we wanted anything after our meal. After desert, it took another bit of a while before we got the check.
Overall, the food was good - though the broccoli accompanying my pork loin was a bit overcooked - not mushy, but not snappy either. The starter salads were a bit on the small side and had a lot of onions. The prime rib was delicious. The coffee was good, as was the white chocolate cheesecake that we shared.
We selected Hartefeld for dinner after dropping it from our restaurant list for a few years. The food and the service had become unpredictable. This time, the food was good and our waiter, who was actually in training, did a beautiful job attending to us. Hartefeld is located close to home and used to be our "go to" place at the end of a long day when no one wanted to cook dinner. We are glad to say this restaurant can be placed back into the rotation after this recent experience.
We met another couple for dinner on a Saturday night. The restaurant was very busy and perhaps understaffed. Our server was a novice and I am sure he tried, but service was slow and he made a few mistakes. The food was okay. We have been hear many times and will return but not on a Saturday.
We live in the community of Hartefeld and so want the Grille & Pub at Hartefeld to be our go to easy dinner choice since it is 1 mile up the road and walking distance however it repeatedly disappoints. Service continues to decline every time we go. Our most recent dining it took 1 hour and 15 minutes for the entrees to be served and all were barely warm, not cold, but barely still warm. For a $36 Filet ...in fact for any meal there since 90% of the entrees are over $30 ...I expect way more. And don't bother complaining. They always have an excuse " we're overly busy" is the usual. Really? Dinner tables empty, no line waiting for seating, high tops still available and that defines busy. I will go on to say that the Dinner menu becomes smaller and smaller yet more expensive every 3 months or so we attempt to be wooed back to Hartefeld. Unless you want a $12 -20 salad or Sandwich or a $30+ all out entrée , there is nothing in between but appetizers. None of the wait staff we've experienced have delivered good service. We've run the gamut....orders forgotten, wrong orders brought, orders forgotten to be even be TAKEN..yes..skipped 2 people at our table. One was a child that then had to wait the 1 hour 15 minutes adults waited for their entrees rather than being served up a kids burger pronto to eat witht he rest of the kids at the table who had their orders taken correctly first time around. Even more crazy is the fact we keep returning but like I said we are so EARNING for this to be the Hartefeld we once knew. I think that says it all. Go for drinks & apps as a date night if you want time together because you can expect it to be slow whether there is 1 or 75 people there.
overall a nice place overlooking the golf course. This was a last minute choice for dinner and they were able to easily accommodate us. The food was good but a bit "heavier" than I would have preferred, but not unexpected. for a bar and grille. Staff was nice and friendly.
We ordered the cheese plate appetizer. It was brought out to us without any explanation. There were 3 cheeses ( no idea what they were), crackers, 1 olive, a few berries & a mysterious white block about 2" x 2". After trying to cut the block numerous times, we waved the waiter over to ask him what it was & told him it was impossible to eat. He had to ask the chef. When he returned he told us it was a block of white chocolate. We suggested that they not add the "mystery block" again since it was impossible to eat. The rest of the meal was good and the service was fine. I do have to say that the mystery cheese tray gave us a good laugh and provided humorous dinner conversation for the rest of the evening.
