Food was good. Service was slow when the dining room was empty. It got slower when the room filled up. It appeared that there was only one server for the whole room. Didn’t ask how to prepare the check. Not super impressed with the overall experience. Expected better.
Grille 39 was the worst dining experience I’ve had in the last 10 years. My husband and I dine out often, so I decided to try something new. I’ve eaten here during the daytime or when staying at the hotel without incident. We showed up 20 mins early and were told at the hostess station that they were running 30 minutes late. No big deal. However, the hostess was very dismissive and didn’t even ask our name or check us in. Once we were seated 40 minutes later, our sever greeted us. He didn’t bring the prix fixe menu that was advertised for Valentines Day. Also we had requested a fireplace table when I made the reservation 6 weeks ago, and we didn’t receive one even though there were tables available. After the delicious appetizer, everything went downhill. Our server just kinda didn’t come back. Another server took our appetizer plate away and eventually our server showed up 15-20 mins after we finished the appetizer. We ordered more coffee with our meal and he went to get the entree. He brought the entree and forgot the coffee. We literally waited 30 minutes for a drink refill. After the entree, we waited another half an hour after it was eaten before anyone came by or mentioned dessert. We didn’t get to leave the place until after 10 pm. The saddest part? There was hardly anyone eating there!!! Super disappointed. I’ll never eat or stay here again.

I have never written a review on line. I reserved a table two days before Valentine's Day. This was one of a very few restaurants with a table for four (my daughter and her husband were with us). I now know why. I wasn't expecting Prime 47 or Hyde Park quality, but I expected something better than awful. They were not crowded, but after 20 minutes of nothing but water, my son-in-law and I had to go to the bar to get drinks. That took another 15-20 minutes. $58 dollars later, the lemon drop martinis were made with cheap lemon juice, and my gin martini was in a smaller glass to make it appear larger. The salad looked like it was out of a bag from Kroger, and tasted that way too. The waitress acted like she was at Applebee's on the rare occasions we saw her. Dishes and glasses piled up everywhere. The ambiance was a mixture of a smarmy lounge and a truck stop. Other diners openly complained to us too. They clearly rely on a captive customer base from the hotel. The experience has already become something our family laughs about because it was such a joke. Don't ever go. Trust me.
Meh. Website (menu and prices) was out of date. Long wait to be seated; was not at all busy. Friendly service, food okay, unremarkable. No free wi fo available. Will not return.

Our first visit to Grille 39 was not disappointing. It started a bit strangely when we arrived 15 minutes prior to our reservation time, stood at the vacant hostess stand, and were not greeted. I looked around the corner a couple of times to no avail. I finally walked over to a coffee bar (the ladies behind which had seen me looking around) and was told to seat ourselves, which we did adjacent to a cozy, romantic fireplace.
Our server was friendly, courteous, and suggestive when we inquired of her to share her recommendations. However, she did very little pre-bussing of the soup, salad, and bread dishes until nearly the end of our meal. She was prompt and attentive to the beverage levels.
I had the tomato basil soup which was good but begged for more seasoning. Next, the chopped salad was presented well, fresh, and good. Upon our server's recommendation, I had the Chilean sea bass. Served over a bed of corn risotto, it was generous, creatively breaded, and EXTREMELY tasty. The risotto, while good, needed more seasoning. The roasted pieces of squash were a nice addition. The dish was creative, well constructed, and delicious. My companion had a very generous portion of herb roasted chicken with mashed potatoes and asparagus, all of which were very good. For dessert, we shared a good sized potion of creme brulee. It was good but could have had a few more seconds of scorching on the top surface.
The overall experience was impressive. We were celebrating a date night and the meal was a superb element of the evening. We both not only highly recommend Grille 39, but we are also intent on returning.
Had I known this was in a hotel we would not have gone! The price point was based on the fact it was in a noisy, child-ridden, over-priced, low-quality, breakfast to Nightcap-hotel restaurant...not because it’s a quality restaurant. It was like eating crappy food with the airport up charge! The servers were so nice and tried-but you can’t make the ambiance and food better with service. I can’t believe this was in the same group as other restaurants with great food and great dining. We tried to have a nice evening out and instead listened the 12yr old girl dance team scream and eat delivery pizza next to us while we picked at our food that tasted of griddle oil. 1/4 ate their meal..the 1, was the one who ordered tiny portion breakfast at 7:30pm! What a waste of an evening out!
Generally good food and adequate value - enjoy the quiet ambiance.
If you like 50 dollar per plate meals in the middle of a busy lobby of a hotel, they have got you.
It's not located in a hotel, like a lot of restaurants it's in a hotel lobby...surrounded by luggage carrying field hockey teams.
The waitress couldn't care less that we were there and was not interested okn even taking our order. 25 min with appetizers, no refills and I had to go to the bar to cash out to leave withoiut dinner.
Appetizer was ok. Disappointed that we didn't get to the food part of the meal.
Go somewhere else.
Think it is superb and perhaps not as well known as it should be give the ambiance and quality of the food and service.

Horrific service for a tue night. Had to wait for server and bill for over :13 minutes.
Pleasantly surprised. Hotel restaurant, so we weren't expecting a lot. But the food was wonderful, service was friendly, and atmosphere was chill.
Service was extremely slow. Steak was not a great cut of meat, and although inside temperature was appropriate, the outside of the steak looks over cooked, as if left under a heat lamp for hours...

Made reservations specified it was birthday celebration. They did not not once mention the birthday or even ask if we were celebrating anything. Disappointed In the food. the server wasn't bad steak was good but sides terrible.
Our service could have been better, however, in fairness to our waitress, she was very busy -- taking care of all the tables there. The food was the great surprise -- it was outstanding. Everything was perfectly cooked and tasted wonderful -- even the salads. We will definitely go back!

Glad we tried Grille 39 during Devour Indy. It was a perfect Date Night with my Hubby. The fireplace was really nice after being in air conditioning all day.
Something must have changed since all the many favorable reviews. Our visit was terrible. Our bartender was aloof and inattentive. His counterpart, however; Courtney, did well in saving the day and trying to make things right. The food, Chicken dish, was terrible. My suspicion is it was pre cooked hours ago then microwaved for serving. My drink was also made incorrectly. Not an innocent mistake... which is understandable. No, I asked for liquor A. And stressed as much under no uncertain terms. lol. Served liquor B. Like... ??? A decent place to hang out... ambiance. Decor.... but I don't recommend dining here. $100 wasted. And I'm still hungry.
Michelle was a wonderful . She was attentive everyone's needs. The foood was well seasoned. The truffle mac was to die for.
Food was not good. the lobster pasta was all cheese and old lobster. our server rolled his eyes at my husband 3-4 times. As well as took for ever to get some drinks. Was looking forward to finding a gem. Was greatly disappointed and will NEVER go back. Spent so much money, fast food would have been better.

Not normally a reviewer on these things but had such a pleasant evening, I had to say something. It's my husband and my first visit to Indianapolis and we were recommended Grille 39 so we made a reservation. We were promptly seated and our server was absolutely lovely. Quick and polite service is where it's at and that's what he gave. We had the duck wings for an app and they were crispy and delicious. We then moved on to steaks and we were not disappointed by those either. All in all a fantastic experience and if we are ever back this way, we will stop by here for sure!
My husband and I were headed out to dinner for our 17th anniversary. We decided to try to stay close to home. Open Table had a point promotion going on for Grille 39 and the reviews and ratings looked good so I thought it would be worth it to try it out. I was a little hesitant because it was a restaurant in a suburban hotel. For some reason that sort of troubles me! Service was awful but the food redeemed this restaurant.
We had super slow service even though when we arrived there didn't appear to be any other diners. After notifying the host stand about the service, we did receive excellent service after this notification. Apparently a unexpected large party came in after us that received priority service over our table.
The food, though, completely redeemed any ill will there was towards our service. My husband's steak was excellent and prepared exactly how he ordered. My sea bass was perfectly cooked and the lemon caper sauce was delicious. We didn't realize the sides were sort of family style, so we both ordered garlic mashed potatoes and we could have easily shared the one portion between the two of us. My son ordered a black angus burger and he said it was excellent as well.
Then there was the truffle mac & cheese. The portion was huge, which we found out later when we got our bill why - they had given us the entree sized order instead of the side order. This was taken care of as well.
Being a Yelp user, when we checked in at the restaurant, we received a free dessert with a entree purchase so we took advantage of this offer and order the recommended Apple Cobbler dessert. It is one of the made in the restaurant desserts. It was a large portion - don't order this alone and was excellent! Definitely a gem to find in a suburban hotel!
Very poor service and experience. Started off with long wait for appetizers. Got salads first (huh?) then apps. Steaks were both way over cooked which was a sad waste of good meat. Service was substandard for normal dinning but WAY substandard fine dinning (which it's not). Could have gone to plenty of great fine dinning in Carmel that was way better than this hotel restaurant. Manager tried to make it right but highly doubt I'll ever be back.
Made a reservation for 14 in our party for lunch, celebrating a co-worker's birthday. Our server was practically impossible to find, and she paid no attention to our group. We had to search for her to get our checks due to slow service.
The food was decent on the buffet (and the server incorrectly assumed we all wanted the buffet). They didn't do a great job of keeping the buffet stocked.
Overall, a very underwhelming experience.
Good, not great. Liked the food but a better variety and some Gluten Free would help. We would come back. A little pricey. Same meal is $50 less in other places. Need copper mugs for Moscow Mules

Have always enjoyed gong to Grille 39, but this time was different. The lobster spaghetti was great as always, but the brocolini was ice cold. Bread was not offered, we had to ask for it and the waiter, Joey, was not very attentive. We were looking around for the waiter because we wanted more water and I had to get it myself. Have always enjoyed the contemporary music before but couldn't even hear it this time.
Valentines dinner with my bride. 4 courses, cold seafood appetizer included crab claws, shrimp Mahi Mahi and oysters on the half shell. All were very tasty. Salad and Lobster bisque were what we had for the 2nd course, both very tasty. Third course was a grilled pork chop with potatoes and bacon Brussel sprouts and a rib eye steak. Followed by a variety of house made chocolates. Dinner also included a bottle of wine. Overall it was a very nice dinner. Joey was our server and he did a great job of taking care of us.
This dinner was "pre concert" dinning with friends.
Don took good care of us, including recommendations and bringing all needed breads/drinks/etc.
Food was great (steak/crab cakes/lobster spaghetti) and the chocolate strawberries topped off the evening.
Not worth the money. We were served a wrong meal, waiter brought glasses of champagne as an apology (we don't drink), then charged the higher price of the wrong meal with no further apology. Food not what you'd expect for the price. Even the Coke tasted weird and seemed like it had been sitting around a couple hours. As icing on the cake, the loop wasn't closed with OpenTable so we were notified of pulling a no-show.
The restaurant is excellent. The chef is outstanding.
