Grille 39 - Renaissance Indianapolis North
Enjoyed the food
Be warned...After reading of some recent upgrades to Grille 39, my wife and I decided to try it out for Valentines dinner. While the attempt was done and the service good, the food quality and preparation was comparable to a Red Lobster and not what you should expect in a $260 meal for two.
The oysters Rockefeller was cold when served, we sent them back (Corey our waitress was awesome) and received replacements after about a 15 minute wait. My wife’s herbed chicken was nice but my Crab Stuffed Sea Bass was similar to a baked cod dish with a crab cake and tartar sauce on top. The asparagus we both had were the size of pencils and overcooked. The mashed potatoes were actually quite good, but they’re mashed potatoes... again for $250 your trying to compete with an upscale place like Ruth’s Chris or even Sullivan’s, which this was not even close.
Selected the restaurant because it did not say that it was only serving a very limited fixed price menu for Valentines Day. Surprise! And they even added 20% to the bill as gratuity. So we ended up with an over priced mediocre meal and three visits from our server, one to ask us if we had been helped, one to take our order and one to bring the bill. Had to ask runners to clear empty plates when they brought each course.
We know Valentines Day is busy but not posting that you are serving a fixed price menu only, then blaming Open Table when other restaurants are is not appreciated.
Food was good but limited menu for Valentine’s Day. Service was poor and I felt that the waitresses and waiters already knew that were getting their tip since it was added on to the bill.
I failed to see any info on Open Table that it was Price Fixed menu with a 20% service charge.
It started with what seemed to be warmed over lunch rolls. They did replace the rolls with still cold middle of the rolls that they told us they were cold. The grilled herb crusted chicken was tough and needed to be trimmed off. The lobster was good but not served with warmed butter. They did credit $40 off the $156.00 before taxes bill.
Jacqueline was an amazing server and the food is always top shelf! Will be back, again.
Worst service we’ve ever had. Food was good.
Wait staff go above and beyond to satisfy the customer. We love Renaissance hotels and Carmel is no exception. Grille 39 has a varied menu and the breakfast and lunch buffets are excellent as well.
The food and service was great
New Years Eve. This was the 3rd year our group went here but we were very disappointed that we could not order from the regular menu. The NYE voices were limited and quite expensive. Service was very slow,
Fantastic New Year's Eve dinner - love this restaurant!
The food was delicious. I had the pasta Romesco and my SO had the special, Steak Diane. Our server recommended adding spice to the pasta, I went with her recommendation and was very happy with it. It wasn’t too heavy, as some pastas can be, the texture was perfect, and the addition of the spice took it even further.
The Steak Diane was cooked at a perfectly juicy, tender medium-rare and seasoned beautifully. On the side was a plentiful helping of parsnip mashed potatoes and asparagus. The potatoes were creamy and fluffy, and the asparagus was just in the middle of crunchy and chewy.
Our server, Crystal, was very attentive and knowledgeable, and responsive with any requests. The sous chef, Austin, personally came to our table to make sure the food was to our liking, All the staff with whom we interacted were quite friendly and professional.
Overall a wonderful and pleasant experience. I would definitely eat here again, and recommend that others try it as well.
Excellent food at a reasonable price. Cory, our server, was very good and very efficient.
Our first table was right under the vent so we had to move. The food was great with the exception of the corn chowder soup. Tasted like it was watered down at the last minute. Service was excellent. Somebody has got to do something about the music though-the same track gets repeated every ten minutes over and over again.
The food was wonderful. However, our server was not up to par and we waited almost an hour before food was served. And we didn't feel our server was understanding what we were asking.
Great venue IN renaissance hotel. Food quality good. Decor lovely. Short staffing for dinner lead to service issues and missing items ordered for dinner. Shrimp cocktail at $15.00 was underwhelming. Crab corn chowder was absolutely delicious!
All was great except we arrived 10 min early for our reservation of 7 and they said they were getting it ready and they still did nothing until 11:07 am when we told someone else we were waiting on our table and they still had not set it up so they started at that time and we were seated 5 minutes later. They were not even busy and there were plenty of larger tables open. They just had to put silverware napkins an water out. The food was really good and our waitress was really good.
My husband and I come here several times a month, we love the food. The service is pretty slow but usually worth the wait!
Love the atmosphere and it’s so very comfortable!
Try their flatbreads - such beautiful flavors!
We had a party of eight, and so that large a group is harder than just 2 or 3. About half our group ordered soup with their sandwich. Their soup was served first and that’s fine. But the rest of us waited quite a long time to get our food. It seemed much longer than usual. Other than that, everything else was good.
You know, it was a night that we needed. The food was tasty, but with only one server working, it was chaotic and no flow. Cory did a nice job and was 128% pleasant, but they did not have enough wait staff and it sounds like this is typical for a Saturday evening.
We had strong interactions with the host (Kelsey), the bartender, and the restaurant manager. All very positive, but just not much flow to the mean. My wife and I were able to enjoy conversations and look up every now and then to check if anybody is coming by to bring a drink or food.
I would come back, but I would limit my expectations. This is a hotel restaurant. Great food with a limited restaurant from the past and extremely hospitable staff, but just not enough of them to allow for great flow.
Nice location, attractive design, creative menu, likely quieter when two tournaments involving teenagers and their families is not in town.
Great atmosphere, food and service. Friendly management and staff.
We have been here a couple times now, and had great experiences both times. Food is great, nice atmosphere and friendly staff. Fair prices and we will be back!
Food was good. Service was slow when the dining room was empty. It got slower when the room filled up. It appeared that there was only one server for the whole room. Didn’t ask how to prepare the check. Not super impressed with the overall experience. Expected better.
Grille 39 was the worst dining experience I’ve had in the last 10 years. My husband and I dine out often, so I decided to try something new. I’ve eaten here during the daytime or when staying at the hotel without incident. We showed up 20 mins early and were told at the hostess station that they were running 30 minutes late. No big deal. However, the hostess was very dismissive and didn’t even ask our name or check us in. Once we were seated 40 minutes later, our sever greeted us. He didn’t bring the prix fixe menu that was advertised for Valentines Day. Also we had requested a fireplace table when I made the reservation 6 weeks ago, and we didn’t receive one even though there were tables available. After the delicious appetizer, everything went downhill. Our server just kinda didn’t come back. Another server took our appetizer plate away and eventually our server showed up 15-20 mins after we finished the appetizer. We ordered more coffee with our meal and he went to get the entree. He brought the entree and forgot the coffee. We literally waited 30 minutes for a drink refill. After the entree, we waited another half an hour after it was eaten before anyone came by or mentioned dessert. We didn’t get to leave the place until after 10 pm. The saddest part? There was hardly anyone eating there!!! Super disappointed. I’ll never eat or stay here again.
They were 30 minutes behind but it was ok. The food was great
I have never written a review on line. I reserved a table two days before Valentine's Day. This was one of a very few restaurants with a table for four (my daughter and her husband were with us). I now know why. I wasn't expecting Prime 47 or Hyde Park quality, but I expected something better than awful. They were not crowded, but after 20 minutes of nothing but water, my son-in-law and I had to go to the bar to get drinks. That took another 15-20 minutes. $58 dollars later, the lemon drop martinis were made with cheap lemon juice, and my gin martini was in a smaller glass to make it appear larger. The salad looked like it was out of a bag from Kroger, and tasted that way too. The waitress acted like she was at Applebee's on the rare occasions we saw her. Dishes and glasses piled up everywhere. The ambiance was a mixture of a smarmy lounge and a truck stop. Other diners openly complained to us too. They clearly rely on a captive customer base from the hotel. The experience has already become something our family laughs about because it was such a joke. Don't ever go. Trust me.
Meh. Website (menu and prices) was out of date. Long wait to be seated; was not at all busy. Friendly service, food okay, unremarkable. No free wi fo available. Will not return.
Great food in a quiet atmosphere. Service was a bit slow,
MY husband and I love the food and wonderful atmosphere. Tables are comfortable and lots of seating !
Our first visit to Grille 39 was not disappointing. It started a bit strangely when we arrived 15 minutes prior to our reservation time, stood at the vacant hostess stand, and were not greeted. I looked around the corner a couple of times to no avail. I finally walked over to a coffee bar (the ladies behind which had seen me looking around) and was told to seat ourselves, which we did adjacent to a cozy, romantic fireplace.
Our server was friendly, courteous, and suggestive when we inquired of her to share her recommendations. However, she did very little pre-bussing of the soup, salad, and bread dishes until nearly the end of our meal. She was prompt and attentive to the beverage levels.
I had the tomato basil soup which was good but begged for more seasoning. Next, the chopped salad was presented well, fresh, and good. Upon our server's recommendation, I had the Chilean sea bass. Served over a bed of corn risotto, it was generous, creatively breaded, and EXTREMELY tasty. The risotto, while good, needed more seasoning. The roasted pieces of squash were a nice addition. The dish was creative, well constructed, and delicious. My companion had a very generous portion of herb roasted chicken with mashed potatoes and asparagus, all of which were very good. For dessert, we shared a good sized potion of creme brulee. It was good but could have had a few more seconds of scorching on the top surface.
The overall experience was impressive. We were celebrating a date night and the meal was a superb element of the evening. We both not only highly recommend Grille 39, but we are also intent on returning.
Had I known this was in a hotel we would not have gone! The price point was based on the fact it was in a noisy, child-ridden, over-priced, low-quality, breakfast to Nightcap-hotel restaurant...not because it’s a quality restaurant. It was like eating crappy food with the airport up charge! The servers were so nice and tried-but you can’t make the ambiance and food better with service. I can’t believe this was in the same group as other restaurants with great food and great dining. We tried to have a nice evening out and instead listened the 12yr old girl dance team scream and eat delivery pizza next to us while we picked at our food that tasted of griddle oil. 1/4 ate their meal..the 1, was the one who ordered tiny portion breakfast at 7:30pm! What a waste of an evening out!
Generally good food and adequate value - enjoy the quiet ambiance.
If you like 50 dollar per plate meals in the middle of a busy lobby of a hotel, they have got you.
It's not located in a hotel, like a lot of restaurants it's in a hotel lobby...surrounded by luggage carrying field hockey teams.
The waitress couldn't care less that we were there and was not interested okn even taking our order. 25 min with appetizers, no refills and I had to go to the bar to cash out to leave withoiut dinner.
Appetizer was ok. Disappointed that we didn't get to the food part of the meal.
Go somewhere else.
Think it is superb and perhaps not as well known as it should be give the ambiance and quality of the food and service.
Wonderful food great service nice atmosphere we love dining there
We expected it to be great ! We weren’t disappointed!!! Food on fixed Valentine Dinner was plentiful and delicious 😋 we give the whole experience 5 stars !
Horrific service for a tue night. Had to wait for server and bill for over :13 minutes.
Pleasantly surprised. Hotel restaurant, so we weren't expecting a lot. But the food was wonderful, service was friendly, and atmosphere was chill.
Service was extremely slow. Steak was not a great cut of meat, and although inside temperature was appropriate, the outside of the steak looks over cooked, as if left under a heat lamp for hours...
