Griffin Tavern Ratings and Reviews
We love eating at the Griffin. In addition to Griffin being my family name, the food is excellent, we know the chef! It's a friendly neighborhood tavern and restaurant near where we live in Flint Hill, VA. The prices are very reasonable for the quality of food and service. Good beer selections and local and other good wines. Music on the weekends. Try it you'll like it. Plus a visit to Rappahannock at one of the wonderful B&Bs is addictive and you'll want to return often.
We had a fantastic dinner. Admittedly it was a relatively late on a cold midweek night so we may have gotten extra attention given the few customers, but the service was top notch and the food was excellent. We enjoyed the meal immensely and hope to go back soon.
Second visit to the Griffin Tavern. This time it was for my Mother's Birthday (she was visiting from out of state). The meal was outstanding and when I made the reservation I had indicated that it her Birthday. They had neat little birthday decorations on the table. Service was outstanding. We are new to the area and I have a feeling this will become a regular spot for us...
We go to Griffin Tavern several times a year and it is always great. The staff are particularly fine, with good service and helpful, friendly attitudes. Food is always tasty and satisfying. My husband likes the Ploughman’s Lunch and I am partial to the crab cakes. Fish and chips are always good. It only gets too noisy if there are large family groups, but if you request a quiet table, they may be able to find one. Working fireplaces are a nice feature, and parking is good. In the summer, they have fabulous gardens.
The food was tasty and very well presented. Our waiter, George, was AWESOME!!! He made this 50th birthday celebration special and took great care of us. This is a great place. I only wish there was a little bit more room for the band and dance floor. Thanks for a wonderful evening for this special occasion.
Our server was amazing! She was attentive and very friendly. The food did take awhile to come out, but was delicious! Only compliant was from one of the girls in my group of 5, and that was that the veggie sausages was morning star. $14 for two eggs and veggie sausage she could buy from walmart for $5 seems ridiculous. Other than that ever satisfied with our Brunch.
Lovely old house dining rooms and pub room. Beautiful location in Piedmont Virginia. Well maintained gardens for outdoor dining and great food. Our friends came from Hume and we came from Culpeper. It is the perfect half way point. We enjoyed our respective anniversaries together.
In the middle of nowhere sits a tavern with great burgers, Shepherd's Pie, fish and chips, fries and now a host of other things not to mention a decent wine list with good pours at reasonable prices. If you are in the area, and not looking for a Michelin two or three star, this is the place for an excellent dinner. Nice rooms but not great ambiance. The excellent local art and great staff make up for the minimal ambiance though.
Griffin Tavern is an amazing restaurant with tasty food. We frequently hike in Shenandoah National Park and always stop for lunch (or dinner) on the way back to the D.C. metro area. The wait staff is always pleasant accommodating (even with groups of 12+). The food is always amazing. If the chef is cooking up something special, I would recommend trying it. The shepherd's pie is always a good standby and the burgers are delicious. But the best part is the desserts (talk about tasty). To top it all off Griffin Tavern is where my wife and I got engaged.
We went for dinner on a Saturday night at 7:15 with my sister and her husband. We were seated near the front door in a dining room. We were provided with stale rolls that could hardly be chewed. One slipped off a plate and onto the floor bc it was so stale. The wine was cheap/poor selection (only 1 Sav Blanc to choose from). We waited over an hour and a half to finally get our dinners. They brought us more rolls while we waited, but again they were stale. While we waited for our dinners, we could hardly speak to each other because at 8 pm a band began playing in the bar (adjacent to our table, but in a separate area) and was so loud that we could not hear each other in the dining room. What kind of restaurant would allow that to occur? They should not have had a band begin until 9pm, after most people are done eating dinner. Once the food came out, it was mediocre. It was very salty and the presentation was poor. This probably had to do with the fact that the kitchen was so backed up in the 1st place, but I would not be able to recommend this restaurant to anyone based on this experience. The waitress and hostess were both aware of how long we waited and all the waitress said was "sorry for the wait." No discount, no offer of free dessert, nothing. No manager ever came out to apologize for all of the people who waited so long for their food. I am not sure there was even a manager present. I don't like to leave negative reviews, but the experience sort of ruined our weekend away in VA.....
Everything was wonderful. We all had something different from the menu - fish & chips, beet & goat cheese salad with salmon fillet, salmon with vegetables & rice, and the Ploughman's platter. Everything was fresh and tasty. Our waiter was friendly and helpful. The prices are very reasonable. After dinner we went into the pub to see a live band. Very friendly bartenders and staff. We had an excellent time.
