Visited Griffin Tavern for lunch to celebrate a family birthday. We had the fish and chips, and burgers. The food was excellent. The service was very attentive and pleasant. We love the ambiance of the place, especially on a nice, breezy day (for summer). Great experience as always. Will go back the first chance we get.
The Griffin Tavern was a lovely old building with a great ambiance and pretty views in Flint Hill, Rappahanock County. Good for lunch after a leisurely drive in the countryside. Food was cooked fresh and was delicious. The service extremely friendly.
A wonderful meal in a great ambiance with terrific friendly service as always!
Loved this place so clean and well kept they were also so patriotic.Their windows were absolutely the cleanest windows I have seen in a business.Congratulations for all the hard work this restaurant rocks!!!!You have NEW customers for sure. Also loved the band Sat June 30th.
This is a great restaurant. The staff is attentive, but relaxed and the food is very good.
The service was just right, seating was perfect ( not too crowded), food was terrific. The portions were reasonable, and the crabcake I had was the best I've ever eaten
It is our new favorite restaurant.
Beautiful British Gastropub in the Virginia countryside. Sat on the patio and enjoyed spectacular food for brunch. Good beer on tap. They didn’t hurry us at all, and it was 90 minutes for the meal. Kids meal was close to regular prices, but a great portion. Plenty of parking.
The Griffin Tavern is our go-to spot for an anniversary or birthday... ok, for an everyday dinner out, as well. The service is friendly, prompt, and efficient. The variety on the menu is great for indulging whatever "food whim" you might have on a given day. The buttermilk-brined, fried calamari is wonderful, especially the sweet-spicy dipping sauce. My coconut-curry chicken dish was excellent... tasty without being over-spiced. My wife's half-chicken was equally tasty and well-prepared. Whatever your tastes, they will have something on the menu that will attract you.
Had a great time watching the Belmont and an exceptional burger. Waiter was extremely friendly and personable and live music was a plus
My girlfriend and I had a wonderful dinner here after a day-long hike in Shenandoah. The food was great — we both got burgers, and they were excellent, as was the warm, lightly seasoned bread that they brought us. The service was prompt but not rushed. The restaurant also had a great vibe — there was a nice mix of local regulars and people from out of town, and while there was a healthy amount of background conversation, it was never annoyingly loud. Many of their two-person tables are currently on their fenced-in porch, which gave us a nice view of the street.
I have to separately mention our wonderful server, Raegan. She was fantastic: very friendly, attentive to our needs for water and more bread, and happy to accommodate our food requests. If you eat here and get her as your server, you are in for a delightful time.
We would absolutely eat here again. We're already thinking about another Shenandoah trip and will definitely return to this restaurant if we stay in the same area again.
The food is always good at Griffin Tavern, but we were seated right next to the bar, separated only by a glass door. There was live music on Saturday night (and also on Fridays), so we could barely hear each other speak. Dining at Griffin Tavern can be very nice, but the sun room next to the bar is noisy on weekend nights and extremely cold in the winter. They even offer blankets. So my advice is to go weeknights or for lunch, or reserve a space in the other dining rooms. Management and staff are great.
Such a great spot to land on a cycling trip through the area - lively scene, delicious food, great service (we sat in the bar area), live band - and the Caps playing in Stanley Cup match on TV. Impressed that the 2 bartenders made sure we were well served despite our being at a side table.
Griffin Tavern is a gem! I always come here after wine tasting at one of the many wineries in the area. I appreciate the fact that the menu is constantly changing and the food is always wonderful! There are plenty of gluten free options too which makes me happy. Service is always wonderful too!
Dinner was excellent as always and with friendly wonderful service.
And the dessert was great!
Andy was a fantastic server- she was very attentive throughout the night.
What a delightful find! Griffin Tavern is definitely worth the drive from DC (though be respectful of local residents when on the road). The atmosphere is so relaxed and welcoming. The hospitality and service are warm and genuine. I loved the food, from authentic fish & chips and a righteous burger, to creative, delicious, and satisfying salads and fresh fish and seafood. I look forward to coming back!
Nice restaurant. British style menu with excellent dishes. The porch was a nice setting to eat outside and enjoy the landscaping with flowers.
Really nice country tavern with lots of local food, wine and beer on the menu. The food, wine, beer, service and ambience are excellent; it's a super place to go for a special night out or just a quick meal in the tavern.
The food here is amazing. We have great reviews for the food, drink and the atmosphere, in doors and on the patio. We have been multiple times and have never been disappointed. We will absolutely be back and will bring guest when they visit.
Delicious uncomplicated but fresh and wonderful food, cheerful prompt service. Love it!
All three of us thoroughly enjoyed our meals. Shrimp and grits were fabulous and scallops were amazing!
We have dined here on few occasions and have not been disappointed , everything has been exceptional every time. The food , service and ambience are exceptional. We will defiantly be back.
Wonderful food and service as always! The best!
We love the choice of seating- outdoor, indoor, or bar.
We came for our 40th anniversary and were treated to a private room with fresh flowers and the most accommodating waitress! The food was delicious and we had a lovely and memorable evening!
We have historically made this our annual Father’s Day dining spot for the past 10 years. My hubby loves their Fish and Chips and the plethora of fresh British beers on tap. An unexpected trip brought us to an opportunity to dine midweek and boy what a difference! Slow service, cold food and an inattentive wait staff showed us a completely different side of this restaurant. In a largely empty restaurant, it made zero sense. Very, very disappointing!
Great food, service & atmosphere! Will be back often!
As always the food was excellent. I love the crab cake and tonight the colcannon and string beans that can with it were also very very good. My husband had the Guinness Stew and liked it a lot. The portion was so large he brought some home and has his lunch for tomorrow too. Our service was attentive and quick. No complaints. We will be back!
My wife ordered the omelet but she could not eat it because it was full of salt. It had to be sent back and she ordered two eggs over easy which came in a timely manner. While we were not charged for the omelet, no one apologized for the inconvenience.
Wonderful meal and reasonably priced. The room got a little noisy, but the service was great. Very friendly wait staff and beautiful building.
Great spot for dinner after a visit to the Little Washington Winery and Wine Loves Chocolate. Delicious meal, good wine and beer selections, attentive service. Lovely atmosphere in old farmhouse with wrap-around porch and cozy dining rooms.
I love the service at Griffin Tavern. Best food and the nicest crew. Love it every time we come!!
Delicious dishes: squash ravioli, shrimp and grits, sea scallops with polenta, mahi mahi. Save room for dessert!
As always . . . . FABULOUS. We always enjoy Griffin Tavern
We love eating at the Griffin. In addition to Griffin being my family name, the food is excellent, we know the chef! It's a friendly neighborhood tavern and restaurant near where we live in Flint Hill, VA. The prices are very reasonable for the quality of food and service. Good beer selections and local and other good wines. Music on the weekends. Try it you'll like it. Plus a visit to Rappahannock at one of the wonderful B&Bs is addictive and you'll want to return often.
We had a fantastic dinner. Admittedly it was a relatively late on a cold midweek night so we may have gotten extra attention given the few customers, but the service was top notch and the food was excellent. We enjoyed the meal immensely and hope to go back soon.
Great food as always as well as friendly service.
I love the Griffin Tavern. The food is always good here.
One of the best meals I’ve had! Incredible chef, prompt service, beautifully done meal.
Fantastic dinner. We will definitely be back to check out the lunch scene.
We've always had a great meal here. Last night was just an off night. Felt like different chef but same food. We'll go back.
