Even though i got an e-mail confirm from Open Table confirming my reservation, the restaurant was closed. Communications between you and the restaurant was not very good.
I LOVE Grey Lady Nantucket. The manager and the bartender there are both first rate, personable, and never fail to recommend the best dish and bottle of wine. They are a bit crowded in the summer but there is outdoor space and the food never disappoints. I highly recommend this place.
We had the best evening laughing, eating great oysters and fabulous french wine.
This is hands down one of the best meals I have had on the island in 10years. The service and the food were both fantastic. The crab cake and tomato appetizer was far and away the best thing I've had all summer. Thank you for a great dining experience and excellent food!
Excellent. Nice patio.
This was our first time at Grey Lady, and we absolutely loved it! Food was excellent, service was great, and the back deck was charming with fun music. We'll definitely be back!
If it's a nice night, request the patio. The bar looked fun although didn't experience it. Nice to not have to fight town traffic and hunt for parking.
We made a reservation at 9:45 for 10:15. We arrived at 10 and they told us the kitchen was closed.
Fabulous food in a hip atmosphere. Cool vibe and everything from apps to entrees SO delish! You can't go wrong when the food is so good!
Food good although appetizers and entree portions on the small side.
Menu very limited. Reason I would not recommend.
Some may find it hard to choose something they know they would like.
Only one dessert offering although it was delicious.
This was our first visit. We plan to return many times.
Not from NE but coincidentally ate at Grey Lady in NY in June - great meL - and then a month later had the same, wonderful experience in Nantucket.
This restaurant has absolutely no ambiance. The restaurant is a shack and the waiters wore tee shirts and jeans. We wouldn't have minded but the prices were very high. The menu was very high brow and creative. Too creative for us since each dish had an ingredient thrown in that we didn't like. We have eaten I. The finest restaurants here and abroad and the prices here were way out of line.
We arrived a bit early and had a drink at the outdoor bar. The bar tender was super friendly and gave us some recommendations on the menu. The recommendations were spot on, everything was fantastic and flavorful, the fillet/shrimp entree was amazing with both cooked perfectly. Great place.
Had a wonderful dinner with my husband and daughters. On Nantucket for our annual family vacation. Mark (Marc) was our server. He's the best. Met him when we ate at the NYC location.
Bit if a strange vibe
We dined early so kinda empty
Felt like we were being sold on the menu choices too aggressively and felt awkward then ordering chicken which was what I was in the mood for
Salads were good
Chicken itself was delicious but oddly paired with salmon and
the very woody part of leeks that should be discarded
Tuna tartare had no accompaniment so my husband
ordered more bread which turned out to be just burned pita
( server pushed this on us calling it "charred" it came with lobster butter which was flat ) Topper was the bread was a
$10 side dish! Not recommended
A very good out of town alternative to Sea Grille. Very casual.
Crab cakes, swordfish kabobs, & bass were all fresh and top notch.
Upstairs dining area is not as comfortable or nice as downstairs.
Food is delicious. Service was incredible- accommodative, fun, friendly, energetic. Menu has range of options. Outdoor seating was nice with separate bar. Good music.
My wife and son and myself ate there at 7 pm and we got seated quickly at a table upstairs. The whole staff greeted us as we came in and responded immediately when we asked that the music be turned down. The wait staff was attentive and quick and we mainly ordered appetizers. The grilled swordfish kaboobs were big enough for a full meal with a great salad underneath. My son wished he had ordered 2 of the scallop appetizer as it was so good. My wife had the crabcakes and we all enjoyed them. The desert my son and I shared was the strawberry shortcake with lemon pound cake. A little disappointed as the cake was too dry and the strawberries had the stems left on but still ok just not like the other items. We all wondered why the low rating on trip advisor as we found it to be great.
The food was very good, and we particularly enjoyed the crab cakes with fresh Bartlett's tomatoes. Others with us had flounder (very good but not what I'd expected), lobster roll (very ample), salmon, clam chowder. Good wine and desert. There was a very large birthday party upstairs and it wasn't very crowded where we were (after 8 pm, when the film festival program we had attended ended). Very welcoming. Good location. Parking was full but still had space for us. Thanks for a lovely evening with friends.
This is a hidden gem. No need to battle with town chaos if you want a truly fabulous meal and experience. Perfect.
The menu was interesting, preparations tasty, food was delicious, and price very reasonable by Nantucket standards.
Set back from the road in an unassuming location, this lovely, casual restaurant serves food that is nothing short of brilliant. Everything is extremely fresh and beautifully prepared and presented. We have dined here a number of times and find it to be consistently excellent. Start with the oysters. They will be the freshest and most delicious you have ever had.
Lobster rolls and White asparagus visschyssoise were excellent. The tuna tartar was over seasoned and over chopped. Service and staff were very attentive and friendly.
Opened last year but did not get to dine there until this past week.
Excellent oysters, delicious Blue Fish app, FABULOUS FLOUNDER. The wine pricing is a bit out of sight with a huge mark up. Tried their signature margarita and did not like. Waiter super friendly, gave great , enthusiastic descriptions of the menu and was very attentive, polite and expressed appreciation for patronage.
Terrific, creative food with prices on the high side.
The restaurant changed its preparation of one of our favorite dishes, much to its detriment. Another dish new to us was only OK. and they claim to have no freezer, so no ice cream and only one dessert offering each night; not what one expects from a restaurant of this caliber. The service was attentive and good.
This was surprisingly good. I ordered the flounder, even after having read that last week a diner's review stated their flounder was fishy. Mine had a little hint of "fishy" aroma, but it tasted very fresh and delicious. I think flounder just has a more "fishy" aroma than other fishes. I also had the Bartlett tomato salad which was divine, of course. I get very offended with stingy wine pours at restaurants - its a great way to get me not to return. Well, happy to say, Grey Lady had a decent serving of nice dry rose. I was not put-off. My companion ordered the crab cakes. She said they were very good but could have been a little crispier on the outside. In summary, its a good spot, Try it, you won't be disappointed.
This is not much more than a pub, but with very good food. Menu is limited but the crabcakes, chowder and fish dishes were very good and well presented. I thoroughly enjoyed the flounder but another person thought it was a bit fishy.
So happy to see a new quality restaurant in the middle of the island.
Great food, great service, terrific menu. They did a great job transforming this space to a place you want to return to again and again. Decor was subdued but very nice. Only complaint, the lighting made it a little difficult to read the menu.
Great cocktails - very unique
Cesar salad and crab cakes for appetizers. Both delish. Special enter and the seafood stew wee very good. Had wonderful time with our small group of four.
Parking lot a BIG plus!
Everything was off. The view of the ramshackle property, the service and the food. Mislead by the reviews, and would never recommend or return.
The Caesar salad was likely one of the best I've ever had. Service was o so. Forgot a few items, rushed us but that was one person. I would go again.
The swordfish kabobs were delicious. Lovely atmosphere once inside the restaurant. Lots of parking.
The hotness was very confused when calling to confirm our reservation. She actually cancelled my reservation instead of changing time. I had to call the restaurant back to ensure I still had reservations. Since hostess cancelled my reservation I lost out on my Open Table points.
The Grey Lady is a very enjoyable place for dinner on Nantucket. As someone who has enjoyed the island's restaurant scene for about a decade, I can confidently say that this restaurant is on par with the better restaurants of the island. I've found a new favorite!
The fish dishes were prepared perfectly! A lively combination of flavors to compliment each dish in particular the swordfish kabobs were amazing. The Escobar mule on tap was fabulous.
We had a nice time, food was well prepared and mostly delicious. Brought my 85 year old mother, ambience was on the bare bones side for her, but fine for everyone else. Recommended for a casual evening when you don't want to go all the way into town.
We were really surprised and impressed by The Grey Lady. The food was delicious and innovative. The chef is a true foodie who kicks everything up a notch. The service was divine and we had the whole upstairs to ourselves. Downstairs, there is a lively bar scene and there is ample outdoor dining. I would definitely recommend to all my friends and consider this a must-visit location on Nantucket. There are many mediocre restaurants on this island but it is rare to find a place with parking, ambiance, and excellent cuisine. Five stars for The Grey Lady!!!
