Grey Lady Aspen
We offer an array of seafood dishes and only use the freshest ingredients available. We take our oysters extremely seriously. Every day we bring in fresh oysters from all over the Eastern seaboard, curating the best possible variety while still maintaining freshness. Paired with amazing food comes amazing drinks.
All of our bartenders are rigorously trained in the perfect pours and mixtures of our specialty cocktails.
The crab cakes were ok, mussels were good, simpleton salad was very mediocre, steak frites were good. We had noted that we were celebrating my birthday when we made the reservation, but no one mentioned anything about it. When we requested a dessert menu, we were told the pastry chef was out sick, so no desserts were available. That's fine. We were offered an after dinner coffee drink or something similar after my husband mentioned that we were celebrating my birthday. We ordered Bailey's. When the check came, we were charged $14 each for them. We had assumed (shame on us) that the drinks were offered in place of a complimentary birthday dessert. The place was very empty as well.
Grey Lady is a fantastic spot to grab a drink and a quick bite. They have a great selection of food. The lobster mac n' cheese is a must!!
The food wasn’t really up to the standards of many of the other aspen restaurants we have been to. They were out of iced tea, their keg was broken and only had one beer on tap, the soup and bread was piping hot (resembled being zapped in the microwave), shrimp tasted like they were just frozen shrimp, steak was just ok (the grill taste was so overpowering it was almost too bitter to enjoy). The Mac and cheese was amazing!!! Overall, disappointed that we wasted a night at this restaurant instead of one of the many other amazing restaurants in town.
Good food and service however was seated next to a table of 8 with little wiggle room and they were very loud making difficult to talk with my wife
Wonderful evening , great food
Bulgarian waiter was great! Food too.
Great mussels. So so crabcakes. Friendly service. Relaxed atmosphere.
unfortunately the food was mediocre and the service even worse. we were given our food but no cutlery or napkins. The cocktail was good.
The food was very average or below average. Not worth the cost.
Had a reservation for 6:30pm. Showed up at 6:20 and was seated promptly. Waiter never came to get drink orders. Another party showed up 5 minutes after us and the waiter took their drink order immediately. We waited another 15 minutes, still no waiter. Decided to leave so can't comment on the food. Service is terrible and well below par considering the area. The restaurant was also not busy, which I now understand why, so there was no excuse for their subpar/non-existent service.
Such a disappointment. They had a large private party going so perhaps that’s why our experience was so terrible. Service went from rushed to too slow. The crab cakes were pure batter and tasteless. We had an 8:30 reservation and shortly before 10:00 while we were still working on our last course, the waitress told us that the kitchen was closing. The lobster roll that Grey Lady is known for was miniscule. The oysters were tiny but tasty. I always try to give Aspen restaurants some slack but, sadly, we won’t be back.
Food was so-so, wine list was poor, lamb chops were fatty, server was pleasant. Not extremely GF friendly.
We love sitting outside, quiet enough to have a conversation and the people watching is great
The food is really good
The bottle of white wine was brought to our table warm...then the waiter took it back to chill and we had to wait quite awhile.the waiter offered a different Riesling and said it was another ‘sweet’ Riesling ——however the Riesling we ordered was not sweet,
The lamb chops were awful. They were very tough and not eye appealing!
We were disappointed and embarrassed as we had houseguests from Finland who are here for their first time.
It will be a long time before we come back...if ever!
Fabulous evening and very accommodating!!!
Nice ambiance, service was quite slow. Menu options limited but food was very good. Although most restaurants in Aspen are relatively expensive, this was a particularly low value. Example, $9 for an order of fries that at first looked like a good portion was actually very small. Owner was really nice.
Bartender was fabulous, all else forgettable. The menu was so limited it almost felt like a bar menu.
Had lunch there two years ago and the food very good so we decided on dinner this visit. Unfortunately, it wasn’t as memorable. Only one entree out of four got good marks...chicken on a brick. The lobster in the pasta dish was hard to find. The lamb and steak entrees were just okay. Beware! They charge for ice. At the end of the day, we thought what we paid for our dining experience was not worth what we received.
Great food and great ambience.
Always like this place. This time our server dropped our main course along side one of our 2 appetizers even before our drinks arrived. Poor execution but good food and atmosphere.
Our first time having a full meal there, and it was wonderful! Great service and knowledgeable staff. Can't wait to go back this summer!
We ordered sole piccata and it was ok. Polenta was burned black. When we mentioned it they said “that’s how is served. “ it was replaced with undercooked polenta. Oysters were good. Bread was the best part.
Over all a nice restaurant. Not at all crowded compared to other Aspen restaurants. One problem, I was really wanting one of their hamburgers. The waitress said “only at the bar”. As we were with a small baby we could not sit at the bar. Since restaurant was empty I thought an exception could be made. She was very adamant about it so we let it go. Wouldn’t go back
Ambiance was nice and service was great. Food and wine list way over priced for quality or menu
We went here for my fiancé’s birthday after a long day of driving. It was so perfect. Our waiter was very nice and the service was great. It was a little empty because it was late and a Thursday night. The food was incredible. I had oysters and my fiancé had the soup to start and then We both had the white lasagna for dinner. It was delicious. It was affordable for aspen.
Very limited menu and wine list. The deviled egg appetizer was not good, and I love deviled eggs. I had the short rib entree which was just ok. Would not dine here again although service was excellent.
We had an excellent meal at The Grey Lady, the setting was unpretentious but the Lobster special and the Aspen Clambake were delicious .Reasonably priced and we were able to book at short notice .Would definitely return
Frankly, I was disappointed. I'm from ME originally and spend most summers in MA. The food wasn't hot enough. I felt rushed. The crab cakes were meaty, but I've had better. The wine was good. The roasted vegetables were steamed, not roasted. Very average meal.
Grey Lady in Aspen is always a must for us. Different food and very good quality and very fresh.
Oysters and mussels in Aspen!
Small and noisy but food and service compensate by far.
Pasta dish is always good but we missed the last season pasta dish. It is a great menu to share and enjoy with friends.
Great experience ! A lot of attention to us. Even the owner was serving us! Great! I will recommend.
The chowder and halibut checks were fantastic. I think i had trout or flounder which was plain but good. The hostess was very accommodating. We had a high top tucked in the corner for 3. It was on the quite side and service was superb. Portions are on the small side so feel free to indulge in an appetizer.
Cancer Surrival celebration
Our clam bake was so good! I added hot sauce because I love things spicy!
The service was great. we will definitely bring our friends Next time we are in town.
There was this lobster stuffed with scallop mouse that was amazing.
Lovely food and service. Great drinks! Boiling hot, (78 degrees F,) at our table though (30 degrees F outside).
Great well prepared food, and nice wine. What more could you want? Small menu, with less seafood than I expected, but several nice specials.
This is a great venue and ambience and excellent food and wine list let down by poor service.
It is the most clueless service I have experienced especially in the level of restaurant as this.
We were asked if we were ready to order with no attempt to inform us as to the specials of the day, we had to ask. We ordered an excellent $75 bottle of wine. The waiter , although pleasant enough, appeared to be completely unfamiliar with the most basic wine service in a restaurant. He then placed the wine in an ice bucket 6 feet away and made no further attempt to serve the remainder of the bottle. The food and ambience deserved much better.
High price point for menu options and quality. Since this comes up as seafood restaurant was expecting more fish entrees and better quality.
Staff was very untrained. Food was very mediocre. Would not recommend or go back.
One of the best dinners of my life. Beautifully prepared unique cuisine. Chef Kyle is now at the top of my list of favorite Aspen chefs.
