We love visiting Gretchen’s. Glad to see they’re now on Open Table. The one thing I’d like to see is them changing their menu a bit more seasonally. It’s been basically the same for years now.

Ate at Gretchen's while staying at Sun Valley Inn. Had dinner with a couple of friends. Found the food to be rather good and, the ambiance is all it should be and then some. The service was superb. The menu is somewhat limited. Due to location and varying demand during the seasons. The prices are quite high. But, anything in the Sun Valley Village is. It is a first class, high demand resort after all. And rather isolated from the rest of the world in a beautiful part of a world renowned, ski resort.

Outside dining in August. Atmosphere was nice. Service was OK. Menu was somewhat limited. Additionally, some of the food we ordered was not very fresh and we had to send it back

This is one of the more spectacular places to have lunch in Sun Valley. The flowers are beautiful and watching the ice skaters perform is magical.

Food as OK, service OK, noisy ambience (there was a girls ice skating competition going on). I've had much better food and a better dining experience when I've dined at Gretchen's in the past.

The location was wonderful and watching figure skaters practice on the recently finished outdoor skating rink was entertaining. Sadly, the service lacked our expectations and we weren’t being overly critical about anything. The food was average at best; yet, the Elk chili was very good - only no crackers offered with the chili?? Customer traffic was moderate to light and yet it still took 40 minutes to serve a simple lunch. Refills on drinks was a challenge and unfortunately shouldn’t have been. A decent lunch and it will be a memory for sure.

The only helpful and nice thing happened in that dinner was our waitress, other than that everything was awful from the one brought the foods to the manager of the restaurant. We had to wait 40 mins for the food to bring out and they were cold. We asked the steak and the burger to be medium-rare and they came out as medium to well-done.

The food was good although the eggs on the Benedict were over cooked, and we sent them back. Unfortunately, the service was really poor, especially considering the resort status of the hotel. Our server was mostly nowhere to be seen, and we had to ask other servers/staff to refill coffee and water, bring more syrup, order a mimosa (which never arrived), etc. Service means a lot in a supposedly upscale restaurant, and this meal didn’t meet up to those expectations. The other servers/staff did seem more competent and attentive, so it might have just been an issue with our server.

Very pleasant setting. We had ordered a starter for the table, did not arrive. Long wait for the food to arrive, even though the restaurant only had 2 other tables. The food was tasty and the desserts delicious.

As long term residents of Sun Valley, we took our out-of-town guests to Gretchens. We were delighted with the food, service and the great ambience of the Sun Valley Lodge. We ran into other locals who were equally delighted. We won't wait for out-of-town guests to have dinner there again.

Waitress was very good but we were rushed through our meal. Main served before our appetizers were done. Servers hovering over wanting to take plates before you even took your hand off your fork. And it was very pricey

Unfortunately our dinner enjoyment was interrupted by a very noisy table of loud children who's parents must not have recommended inside voices. The brussel sprout appetizer was exceptional, but the Sablefish daily special and the trout meal were not remarkable, in fact quite mediocre. Last year you had a curry soup main course that was excellent..please bring it back!

This place is extremely overpriced for what you get. The dish my husband ordered was steak with beet pasta. For 50.00 there was barely enough meat on his plate and the pasta was tasteless. Dinner got 2 was $168.00. No alcohol drinks. There are other places in town that offer more variety, better tasting food at a more reasonable price. We will not be going back.

Terrible service. No one bothered to see use when we arrived. Waited over 10 minutes for a waiter. Had to talk to the manager. When he came over took our order and never saw him again. Very poor service for the cost of the place. I would avoid it. I never leave bad reviews I just don't return but this had to be mentioned.

The ambience in the lodge is fantastic this time of year. The place was very busy thus the food came out slow however the staff was very friendly and kind. Food was excellent- all items we ordered especially the elk chili. Definitely will be back.

I was extremely disappointed in the quality of the food. This was not our first time at Gretchens, and we are used to a much higher quality. It was the worst steak I've had. The cook was over, the meat was dry and under seasoned. The vegetable hash would have been perfection if it hadn't been served cold. The service and atmosphere were wonderful and as expected. I did not complain about the food because I didn't want to embarrass the server. I hope Sun Valley works on improving the quality and consistency of their food in the future.
