Bend, Oregon has a vibrant food and drink scene, and the Old Mill District, where Greg's is located, is a natural draw for locals and visitors alike. Greg's has been a "go-to" place for me and my family, especially for special occasions and when bringing friends and family in from out of the area. We have not been to Greg's for a few months, and although I read reviews which were less favorable than I believe was deserved, I decided to reserve seating for dinner prior to a concert. We were not happy with the food overall. A couple of the more expensive entrees were average; however, from bread, to salad, to two appetizers we continued to be disappointed in the quality and expense. It seems as though foods are coming from prepackaged freezer deliveries and buckets of sauce. If this is not the case, then the chef and cooks need to up their game. The diversity of options have declined for non-meat eaters and for those seeking freshly prepared seafood. Unless we learn something significant changes at Greg's, we will choose to go elsewhere.
The service was very slow this night because the restaurant was totally full and did not have enough help. Also, they were out of several dishes, and we had a relatively early--6:45 pm--reservation. It is a noisy restaurant, too, but this group of friends always goes to this restaurant after seeing a movie, because it is so near the Regal Cinemas and honors reservations. I really appreciate a restaurant that takes reservations!
Your wait staff was attentive, the food was delicious and the atmosphere was casual and comfortable with a metropolitan vibe! My family and I enjoyed our dining experience. The next time we travel to Bend from Upstate New York, we'll be dining at Greg's Grill!
Enjoyed both the food and the service. The view was great. Rest of my party did not show and the staff was not bothered by the loss of two seats.
The meal was wonderful and beautifully presented, but the best part was Jaylee. She was fun, helpful, and masterfully informative. The restaurant is beautifully arranged and with a great placement along the Deschutes River.
Greg's Grill offers it all. Located on the banks of the Deschutes River, the menu has a lot of variety, from small plates to full entrees, with fresh, local ingredients. Also important, the hosts and wait staff are friendly, knowledgeable and welcoming. They seem happy to be there -- and to have us there -- which adds a LOT to the overall experience. Try Greg's Grill!
Nice place, good food, great views, helpful staff, on the more costly place for dinner in Bend, but worth it
There's nothing like enjoying fine food while overlooking the Deschutes River. The ambiance is great, and the staff is efficient, knowledgeable and friendly. I always feel welcome at Greg's Grill. :-D
Had a great table by the window. Nice place to go with out of town visitors.
Just your average huge dining room experience with average chain restaurant kind of food. Noisy, over-animated wait staff, was sorry not to have had reservations somewhere else.
Unfortunately we were not served our main meals for 1 hour and 20 minutes after arriving at the restaurant. Nice staff. Good food. Kitchen really failed us. And we had two young children eating with us!
Took my mom for Mother’s Day. She loved it and we got to sit by the window for a great view.
Really like the environment. The breakfast was okay but not good enough to draw me back for breakfast. Several people in the area told me you do a great jog on dinners but only so-so on breakfast and I would agree.
Great service, wonderful food and beautiful view of the Deschutes River.
We entertained friends from California that we recently met on a guided tour to Poland and Russia. We wanted to impress them with central Oregon restaurants. Greg’s Grill has excellent food and the wait staff were very pleasant and attentive. Our friends really liked Greg’s Grill. They are becoming wine specialists and thought the wine menu to be very good.
The food was very good. We had Flatiron steaks. All were cooked just as we ordered which is actually kind of unusual. Service excellent. Lemon drop perfect and loved the decor. Everyone friendly from Hostess to Waiter. Food served in a timely manner. We were there for a special occasion and only had limited time. We had made a reservation and were seated upon arrival. Another thing we found unusual. We will be back when we are back in Bend. Lunch menu also looked great. Thanks for a great dinner!!!!
Have been going to Greg’s since 2008. Used to love this place, beautiful inside and great view. Food was almost always great with a nice selection. First the menu was abbreviated, then noticed the food quality wasn’t quite as good but still ok. The they started getting bad scores from health department repeat violations. That seemed to get cleared up for awhile but recently they scored low again. We really feel like they are banking on there location and tourism to get by. Not really investing any money into it because the pendant light over our table has been out close to two years.
On our recent visit, some of the asparagus was brown, we had to go find someone to give us plates for our appetizer and steak knives.
We really hate to see this happen with Greg’s as we live in Bend and have really enjoyed it there. For us it’s too much to over look just to be disappointed.
Sorry Greg’s at least we can say we knew you when it was great.
Our evening was a quiet birthday celebration. The food was excellent for the price. The setting right by the Deschutes River was perfect and we watched the local rowing teams practicing up and down the water while enjoying a cocktail. We had a complicated order with merging splits and dressings and tools needed to eat. Our waitress was charming, attentive, pretty, and took our orders and modifications without writing them down. The impressive thing was that she got it all right! We could hardly remember all of the nuances, but she did! She contributed to our laughter and overall enjoyment of the evening.
We really enjoyed the lunch menu offerings. Very hard to decide. Must return to try them all.
Food good but no soup or salad offered for main entree. A bit over priced. Drink and warer glasses dirty with water stains or from dishwasher . Seating worn down and dusty. Spent 113.00 for 2 for dinner and drinks a bit worn down and over priced for what you get. Probably won't come back.
Mixed experience. Service was not great. Entree arrived while we were still eating our salad and just sort of "plopped" down on our table. Plate was too warm to move in front of me with bare hands when I was ready (a warm plate is a good thing when it's served right in front of you). Never offered fresh ground pepper. Had to ask for water. No steak knife provided. Meat was quite rare - ordered medium. Sent it back and new plate was done nicely. Served with asparagus that was very tasty and done just right. Wine was good and salad was quite tasty. Reservation request was for a booth by a window. Tried to seat us at a table by a window (booths at the window were seemingly available in another area of the restaurant). Asked to be seated at a booth instead. Were seated at a booth facing the window which had a nice view of the river but was not right next to a window.
Greg's ambiance was amazing; beautiful windows with amazing views, elegant decor, & simply stunning interior (vaulted ceilings with warm wooden beams & shining hanging lights). However, the food wasn't up to par. I'm not sure if it was because we got the day cook or if someone just had an off day, but my steak was cooked medium when I asked for medium rare and my boyfriend's blackened steak was so salty neither one of us could take more than a few bites. The restaurant/server was extremely accommodating, though, and took my boyfriend's steak off of our bill.
Our server Teresa was amazing and extremely helpful. Ambiance is nice and the views were great too. I would go back!
Greg's has a wonderful location and a gorgeous building. The service was better than I've experienced there in the past. But the food is expensive and mundane. With a more imaginative menu it would be a great restaurant.
We have been going to Gregs Grill since 2008. It is usually consistent, nice atmosphere, great view, nice cocktails. They seem to fit a lot of different categories. Overall a safe bet.
Greg's Grill is our personal favorite when are in Bend. We love the ambiance, the food and service is great, and the views of the Old Mill and Deschutes River are always beautiful! Our server Melissa was wonderful. We enjoyed meeting the Mgr and all the staff were very polite and profoundly accommodating.
WE enjoy dining along The Deschutes River with evening views of the sun setting over The Cascade Range and the emerging of Bend’s night lights...The waitcstaff are friendly & accommodating ...Dinner was well presented...
Food sucks, fish had bones in it. They brought me a new one that had more bones in it than the first one. Way over priced for the quality of food.
The food was good and our server was very friendly and attentive. I look forward to eating here again.
Greg’s is a beautiful restaurant. That being said, our reservation was at 7:45 and I ordered rotisserie chicken with roasted vegetables as my entree. I’m going to assume that it was on the rotisserie too long or we just showed up too late in the evening but the chicken was so dry that it needed to be washed down with a full glass of water or it was literally going to be stuck in my throat for days.
My advice, don’t go too late in the evening!
Great place, love the Christmas decorations. Our waitress was lovely!
Wonderful service, great food. Fabulous atmosphere.
Great table by the window. Service was good. Festive spot for holiday lunch
Food was good. There were a number of items on the menu that I'll be going back to try the next time I'm in Bend, OR.
I'm very happy to be leaving a positive review! We started our meal with some oyster shooters which were big and fresh. My husband and I both had the steelhead and it was wonderful. I especially liked the fig chutney!!! My daughter had the hanger steak with chimichurri. It was cooked well, but could have used a bit more chimichurri on the side. Would like to see a bit more variety of starch choices. Mostly potatoes. But, very happy to see a decently priced wine list!
Beautiful as always for the season, great food, and exceptional service. Can't beat it for that "special occasion".
My ribs were fatty and the sauce was very rich. We don’t care much for Greggs Grille but our friends like it so we treated them to dinner. They loved their dinner, chicken and a tuna steak. We do like salads in the summer on the patio.
Needs more veggie/vegan options
